Hey /v/, remember our small project of making a shitty game in RPG maker that actually seemed to go somewhere until switch to MV fucked it up? Well… I decided that I'm going to ressurect it with the latest VX Ace version and a special rule that we will NEVER EVER again switch to MV. I just can't see this project go seeing how much fun it was. I'm sorry if any of your progress was deleted if you made something after MV switch but this is simply better than letting the project simply stay dead. That said, if ANYONE has a newer version than what we have in the link, please post it as long as it is the VX version.

Rules

It was ported over because Github didn't handle RPG Maker VX files right or something. Some anon thought that being able to not have to upload to MEGA was worth porting the project over to MV and breaking so much shit, and nobody questioned him I guess. I don't know why it killed the project but personally I did a lot of stuff for this project and I wasn't able to continue because MV runs terrible on my computer. The VX version is outdated but I don't know if the OP wants us to go back to the VX version or use the MV version.

Given that we're losing a lot of progress anyway, it might not be a bad idea to just start over. Keep the same premise or come up with a new one, start off with a basic intro and starting map, add in a whole bunch of blank maps for anons to claim to keep things organized, and then just turn everyone loose on it.

MV is higher resolution than VX Ace, so sprites will need editing to work.

I don't see why we couldn't just continue with MV if somebody else would just take over the project by forking, accepting new PRs, and making changes for anons too lazy to learn git. The reason for the move was so if two people work on the game at the same time but the changes weren't conflicting, then both changes could be accepted. With VX Ace, you can't do that. You would have to pick one and tell everybody else to redo their changes in the newest version. In other words, the more people contributing/the less dead the project is, the more it becomes a tedious clusterfuck for everyone involved. It's only workable if less people work on it, and only one at a time.

Using MV + git, though, somebody needs to be willing to lead and accept PRs, and someone (whether it be someone else or the same guy) needs to accommodate the non-/tech/ posters by downloading their changes, commiting them to a branch and opening a pull request for them. So either way it would be tedious. I do hope whichever is done, that the project doesn't die and stay dead.

Found a small bug while testing out dialogue for Gustav, if you use the party crystal in the area with the Baneist and Vidya Thief cutscene, it will teleport you outside the barrier that you're not supposed to cross until you have Gondola when you try to teleport back on the map.

When you're ready to upload it can you take out the audio folder before zipping it?

The audio folder accounts for 143mb of the total 152mb so it would be a waste to keep reuploading and downloading it every time.

If you didn't include new audio files then we'd just have to copy over the audio folder we already have from the previous version.

If you added new audio then you can include create a empty copy of the audio folder and add only your new files, so we can merge them manually

It's a bit more work this way but will massively cut down up/download times, especially if anons keep including new music going forward.

The OP download link should honestly be the only one to include the complete audio folder giving how much it bloats the filesize.

When I have time, I'll post again, but I'd like to contribute to the system graphics and menu/message box scripts to have everything look more polished and 8chan-like. How does everyone feel about Arial as the message box font, with a black default text color? And the backgrounds being flat, more like 8chan's Yotsuba B Options menu? The cursor could be a green arrow too, and I could add a short procedure that anons can use to change the text color to green for greentexting in dialogue, and a short procedure to reset it to black. We can also include the necessary fonts for people that don't have them, because who gives a shit about copyrights here? :^)

I was playing around with the idea that the stolen video games could be gathered throughout the game, probably at the end of boss fights. You don't have to find all of them to complete the game, but you do if you want to 100% it and get the secret bonus ending.

I actually had an idea for goons, with anon discovering that to defeat D.Nuvo he has to get a stand for himself, unfortunately, besides D.Nuvo only weebs could ever get stands. So anon discovers that goons are actually attacking weebs and driving them near extinction so he hast to stop them so that he can get a stand for himself. This leads him to the discovery that D.Nuvo was actually behind it all, helping goons destroy weebs so that he can be the only one with a stand. The vidya thief is also with him, and anon overhears their talk, with vidya thief seemingly working for him, but quickly starting to monologue about how he's going to betray D.Nuvo when he will be able to finally put his final plan into motion when he's alone

I just had an idea for a possible developement of the story. Seeing that we currently have no other things to do than to wait for anon to finish his work I decided to share it. Obviously, we don't have to do it, it's just a suggestion of what could happen.

The party crystal is also incredibly bugged it keeps teleporting anon into walls, we have to fix that somehow. Librespace is bugged as well and I think you cannot progress at one point in the game because of it.

The event in the "Sword not stolen scene" did not have "autorun" but action button set, which made it impossible to progress once you've picked Teagan unless you found the tile the event was on and pressed enter. I just had to change this one thing and it's working again.

If someone is editing the database itself or the scripts though, I don't think there's any way to resolve the conflict, is there? The person has to redo that shit? I got the UI work done, but it can easily be redone for the latest copy. It was more work that I thought and ended up using somebody else's scripts to do it instead, and I went with the same selection cursor as the anon before me, only I made the border darker. No more blinking cursor, the ugly textbox arrow animation is now a plain cursor bouncing up and down, and the transparency is gone. I think it looks better than what I originally had in mind though, after I made a shitty mockup.

I think we should probably have some form of organization in the next OP, such as:

>person1 has the active copy

>person2 replies to person1 and posts they'd like to go next

>person3 replies to person2 and posts they'd like to go after that

>person1 uploads their work and names person2's ID as next

>person2 downloads it and makes changes

>person2 replies to person1's upload post with their work and names person3's ID as next

>person3 downloads it and makes changes

So then there's two exclusive comment chains: releases and the work queue. But that's just brainstorming and still sounds too chaotic. I just don't know how else we could do it. It's not as easy as /bane/'s project.

Winter-Chan Town is now around 90% complete.

Feel free to have a go at it and playtest.

I've connected it to the interdimentional tavern so you can now access it without dev hacks. However its still not officially connected to the rest of the game's plot.

Here's a rundown of the major stuff that happens in Winter-Chan town

>Anon travels down the 100 level dungeon to meet Brenden Frasier

>Anon cures a man of his Nigger and Gay affliction

>Anon meets Mayor Ancap and he sells you loli's he's imprisoned (I've only implemented one, Shinobu, who becomes part of your party, kind of. i'd like suggestions on others i should put in)

>Anon meets a beautiful ara

>Anon talks to a PMC to enter the woods, which lets him go to a future area where he fights (maybe Kotaku? I don't know yet, its not done)

>Anon listens to soothing nymph chanting

>Anon enters a library which contains nothing but references and stupid jokes

I also have side story where Anon meets /pol/tan and /x/tan but I haven't done anything on this yet. It'd probably happen in the "Swastika Room"

Although I like the additions you made, I have a few things that I would point to, not saying that you should change them but I just want to give my opinion.

First of all, I'm kind of becoming worried about the number of gameover states for bad choices that anons added, it's like the game is filled with obtuse beginner traps when many players will probably want to check out all dialogue options for >implying funny dialogue.

Second of all, don't you think that putting torture scenes of people we don't like is kind of edgy? Isn't it better to just make them small scale villains?

Nah, leave the bad ends. I love that shit. Maybe having a way to negate the gameovers for meme choices would be nice though. Like if you're holding a consumable called "I was just pretending to be retarded" you can use it to redo the choice without having to replay that shit, otherwise you're fucked. The items are expensive though so you have to grind for them unless you use some kind of cheat code to give you infinite shitposting abilities. How's that sound?
