Apparently this game was crowdfunded a couple years ago but the devs have been radio silent for the last year or so. I think most people assumed they had taken the money and run, but the game received a few trailers earlier this year and now it has a launch date.
There doesn't seem to be a demo, but embed related is gameplay and I'm cautiously optimistic even if it does look too easy (the character upgrade progress is "about 50%" so perhaps he's overleveled). The sprite art in particular is higher resolution than most pixelshit indie games, although I'd need to compare it to a real GBA game or something to see if there are any visual differences.
And because I know there's at least one guy who cares about this: I haven't seen any diagonal pixels. Any rotating sprites are displayed rectangularly, as they should be.

The mushrooms growing implies that the season changing thing affects time, rather than just different stages of life (trees go bare every year but mushrooms only grow once). The reason Mario and Sonic are so fun to play is because they have acceleration and weight to their movements. They don't just stop on a dime, they slide for a little bit before coming to a complete halt. It gives them much better feel and fluidity.
Now I can understand if the protagonist has these boring controls because the game is more combat focused, but Megaman X and Sparkster were slower paced and combat focused too, and even they had things like dashing, wall climbing and boosting to make them more fun to play. This doesn't have any of that, so it looks really dull in comparison.

The issue is that normal people don't bother trying to get into those positions anymore. Only foreign and eccentric people get in there because there are plenty of individuals who drop out or don't attend college.
I see people blaming Marxism, but it's actually the shitty willpower of those who refuse to overcome their two years of lame undergrad classes. I'm non-white, and whenever I ask them why they aren't pushing themselves to be in higher positions, they always give me the "I don't think I'm that smart" or "I don't need to be like Da Vinchi/Issac Newton to live" excuse.
