Odyssey is a lot of fun, but I wouldn't suggest getting a system for a single game. Doom is sort of a mixed bag. The version 1.1.1 patch came out a couple months ago that helped to stabilize the game's performance so it runs fine both docked and handheld now.

It's debatable.
It's going to lose a good chunk of it's comparative value with other systems when it rolls out paid online later this year, it still has the benefit of being local play friendly.
At the same time, however, because it's the first nintendo console that isn't just a gamecube with more gamecubes taped to it, it's lost the boon of backwards compatibility.
In addition there's questionable compatibility with prior hardware despite being a bluetooth system that can, at least in theory accept inputs from wii era accessories, with potentially the only expense being the lack of IR support on wii remotes. However, one of the joycon could be used as a beam to map input for the pointer.
Interestingly, there is no support for the Wii U pro controller despite, minor losses in functionality no share button, no NFC reader, no gyroscopic sensor. Functionally would be compatible with essentially all software at no real loss in control values, save for maybe splatoon which is basically unplayable without gyro, while it could be argued that it only really exists as a feature that leaked out from dev kits. Gamecube controllers have total support on the system, including (according to leaks) full measuring of analog input from the triggers.

I have a good computer but because of the all the bullshit i can't just pop in a game and play, and after a long day i'd rather sprawl out on the couch. The other consoles don't even let you play the fucking games, it's just loading screens and updates. With the switch I can just pick it up and play a game, and it doesn't feel like a shitty phone game, it feels like an actual video game. Truthfully, it depends entirely if you think the portability is worth it. I could argue games, exclusives, or some other crap, but any other argument could be shot down by the mere existence of the PC.
The only reason gaming tablets don't fill the void is because the OS is almost always Windows (Which is SHIT) or Linux.(Which the average user has no idea how to use) Plus, many PC games assume keyboard and mouse, and both require a setup to large to be practical for a handheld use.

the reason I like playing games on the switch is because it's just a game console. There's no social media integration, no achievements, it's just a slab that plays games. If I want to play a game I just stick a cartridge in. There's practically no loading screen at the start and i can put the thing in sleep mode, set it down, and pick it up again any time I want. And when you wake it there's zero wait time, the game starts right up. Comparing it to a computer is retarded, it was never going to be a graphical powerhouse. Compare it to its contemporaries. I dropped the wii version but decided to pirate it on 3DS since "fuck it, it's free", and it's honestly 100x better without the waggling once you get past the first two worlds. I think the first two are just really generic compared to the rest of it.
