Now, if I wanted to fuck about with older mods like Team Fortress and play with bots, how do I do that? I use the "gamedir fortress" command and it loads and whatever but when I go to multiplayer setup none of the mod's maps or modes show up in the list. Do I just have to fuck about with the command line to make it work or is there something I'm missing?

I was playing Arcane Dimensions 1.70 on QuakeSpasm 0.93 and in ad_sepulcher I get a no free edicts error when I get into a secret door at the top of an elevator near the end of the level.

Apparently there's a patch for 1.70 that supposedly fixes that. I'm pretty sure I shouldn't do this, but I installed the patch and loaded my save and I still get the same error.

If I exit the map and go back to it from the hub, will the error be fixed, or will my save not work on the patched version at all? Is there a way of not having to do all the level again so that I can finish exploring it? It's a huge level with 50 secrets and I already found most of them.

Well, if you need more direct action, there's Descent 3. Its not as good, but its something if you need it. There's also the Freespace games which, while not the exact same, is by Volition, half the team that made these. There's also three 'spiritual successors' that are coming around so look out for those I guess.

Well there's three main ones. Descent: Underground, made by a bunch of fans who got the license from Interplay that's apparently recreating the multiplayer but it apparently sucks dick. There's Overload, a more true single-player spiritual successor by some of the original Parallax devs that is closer to the originals with closed enviornments, lots of weapons, shit to shoot, and all that stuff, but its also in Early Access. Then there's Sol Contingency, a game by some former Interplay devs that was originally gonna be a remake of the original, but now seems to be a new affair with a multiplayer focus and a demo out there if you care http://sol-contingency.com/builds/Sol_Contingency_PG_Install_1.0.exe .

Don't really care about that nor do I care if its doom, duke, hexen, UT, or anything else. I mostly just like exploring and appreciating the level design of them. Duke is pretty good for them just because it already has a bunch of sprites and textures for modern structures, as well as the jetpack for mobility and shrinkray for even tinier secrets.

I play Project Brutality instead because it doesn't even pretend to stick to the original Doom balancing and instead adds loads of guns and enemies. Few, but all secrets should have at least some sort of clue to them. A random example I like is the one in E3M2 where part of the walls form an arrow and you'd probably only notice from looking at the automap. A bad example would be E1M6's line of objects that point to a very obviously out-of-place wall.

Difficulty should also be proportional to whatever is in them. I also like the ones that are dependent on noticing multiple sound cues, such as Plutonia's MAP10 where lowering a platform lowers an inaccessible item behind you.

DarkXL is basically your only option. It has some problems.

RoTT was a little boring for me personally. Only beat it once and that was years ago, it feels very middling compared to games like doom which are a clear upgrade over what was being done in wolf3d. The way I feel about it is during development the question was asked "what if we just expanded wolf3D's design a little more upward?" and it had the same amount of repeating assets and more of an arcadey design less of Doom's more console style level progression. I think it's better than wolf3D but not very much sticks out to me compared to the direction shooters ended up taking after doom.

I just checked my server. The start map goes in port1.cfg (or whatever port # .cfg depending on how many servers you run). All my other maps are in ../nquake/qw/maps (except for CTF which has its own game directory).

So put your maps in nquake/qw/maps and make sure you set the name in whichever port.cfg

Nah do the full version too, I'd consider a good stopping point to be episode 4. First two episodes are good. Episode 3 is a mixed bag but concludes with a top-notch boss battle. Episode 4 though, introduces the monk enemies and they're the most tedious of bullet sponges without enough powerful weapons to deal with them.

Actually at some point remind me to provide an EXE patch to alter the enemy HP values. It's really helpful.

Not really necessary it's fairly easy to install and setup in DOSBox. Also I'm guessing that it's going to Bitchford nowadays since 3D Realms was formerly Apogee. Oh but on that subject, the 2013 remake wasn't too bad, for a budget title it's better than nu-Doom. If it looks appealing I'd prioritize GOG over Steam.

Slave Zero was great until you get about 1/2 - 3/4 of the way through. Your weapon upgrades keep getting better and better and yes, shooting shit is really fun all throughout. The problem is the more upgrades you get the more ammo they chew through, and there isn't nearly enough ammo to be found to accommodate them. This got so bad I was at the point where I was essentially forced to skip entire groups of enemies because every single one of my weapons was empty and there was not a single ammo pickup to be found. I ended up having no ammo besides a few missiles when I got to a boss, never finished the game because of it. Damn shame, too, the game is really fucking fun but you can just tell that either the game was too rushed or they just simply didn't put enough thought into the later levels. It's one game that I wish somebody would make a clone of although if there are any games similar to it I'd like to know about them

I remember one particularly bullshit sequence in Doom II towards the end where you were expected to shoot a switch rather than simply interact with it like every other button in the fucking games, because Petersen was apparently used to shooting switches in order to activate them and either expected others to do the same or forgot to make it frobbable. This isn't fucking Marathon, it's as if Petersen forgot he wasn't the gameplay designer. Pistol starts were actually his idea with levels designed around it, as originally weapons weren't supposed to be carried over between levels, but id simply 'forgot' to disable weapons carrying over.

If you mean letterboxing, that's controllable by specifying aspect ratio. The reason why you'd want to run at a differen aspect ratio resolution to begin with, at least for fullscreen, is just because on most modern screens displaying at anything else makes it blurry and terrible. That's also why Chocolate Doom, despite operating at 320x200 internally, allows for much higher.

Unfortunately chances are it is a driver issue. Video cards are pretty notorious for dirty coding. Also I do get a pretty hideous visual glitch on my ancient system. It's not so noticeable in my screenshots on the chainsaw and the see-through texture >>14740963 but against white surfaces they stand out bad. Dynamic lights make it vastly worse and 3D models are absolutely riddled with holes.

On that subject, I'm 1280x800 too (X200 Laptop), In the past I've ran GZDoom at screen res, but I set it to 640x400 and the performance is way better. I was getting temps that tended to sit around 60C, about 45-50 FPS with some instability. With the new resolution it's hovering at about 40C and I get rock solid 60. Additionally after comparing them a little I think it actually looks better.

I owe GZDoom an apology as I've shat on it before because of the poor performance but this solved the issue completely.

If you liked JPF, try Faspons and Babel as well. JPF definitely feels like Kinsie just being silly and trying to take Faspons up to 11. Babel is a vanilla enhancer type thing but it does all kinds of enemy and difficulty tweaks. What if somebody (probably Macroshart) paid Graf Zahl in order to constantly screw up and sabotaging the progress of (G)ZDoom so that it will never be able to compete with the other FPS games? Instead of having only 1 source port that does almost everything well, instead it gets divided into several smaller niche source ports which have even slower development progress. It doesn't have to come from the same code base, my proofs: 1) There is 2 forks of ZDoom already; GZDoom and QZDoom. 3) OpenGL part of GZDoom never got seriously developed before this year. 4)

Also I wanted to add even if its less related to this thoughtful source ports discussion that the Doombuilder series have poor multi platform support, setting up GZDoom Builder in Linux with Wine requires arcane knowledge in order to get it to start properly, that is if it even works in the first place. Forcing the doom mapper and modder enthusiast in order to use the proprietary Windows operating system if he wants to use the latest mapping features that ZDoom currently supports. In my opinion this is a plausible proofs that Microsoft is behind it. Linux users are left behind with Slade, Eureka and Yadex, which those 3 mentioned programs have at best only Boom like mapping support, ZDoom ones are more limited.

I do remember one thing that was causing a lot of trouble, it had something to do with the powerup classes trying to inherit from powerups that didn't exist. Probably because said powerups got changed in DRLA's code. All you really have to do is change the names in DRPG and you're good to go.

Even after correcting it, though, it's far from perfect. There's still a little bugginess with powerups, and even outside of that you've got hellstorm elementals (those pain elementals that can instagib you by shooting portals at you) which risk making the game crash whenever they're on a level. I've tried debugging it myself, but the whole thing is so confusing that it makes me wonder if it's less to do with DRPG's code and more to do with the engine being dogshit like DRPG's dev says.

Both DRLA and DRPG at least load individually in current GZDoom but not together. The simple fact is that extensive mods generally won't play nice with each other, even with attempts to force them. For that reason, the only mods I tend to mix with others are ones that only modify one facet of the gameplay such as monsters, or weapons, or inventory. Those also tend to be the ones closer to standard Doom gameplay.

Black-tier enemies have some really nasty inclusions like the lost soul but most of them are actually possible to kill even with the vanilla weapons as long as they don't appear too early. White-tier's description of "RNG hates you" is accurate. Being cheap is just repaying them in kind. Heaven help you if you roll the white shotgun guy early you just have to run away. Thankfully both tiers can be disabled in mod options if they're not to your liking, they probably make more sense in co-op than going it alone unless you're using something truly obscene as your weapon mod.

It is irritating, in one hand as you wrote it is FOSS yet it's dependent on Microsoft library like the .NET/C# and SlimDX. They don't even bother making it run better in Wine at least which is possible: https://wiki.winehq.org/Developer_FAQ#Independent_Software_Vendor_Questions . DoomBuilder 2 itself is a bit easier to install and run in Wine but it triggers my autism that the window top of it keeps flashing as soon I do any map editing with it, GZDoom Builder however is much more finicky and the 3D viewport lags pretty bad. One forum user mentioned that MaxED is a bad coder, which is not surprising to me.

Here's my shitty fixed version, save them as .zip.00x. Tested with GZDoom 3.2 and DRLA 1.05, should work fine with new versions of the engine. It spews a ton of errors but at least it actually runs. Like I said in >>14756399, powerups are a little glitchy (I know they don't all show timers like they should), and hellstorm elementals like to crash the game at random. If anyone wants to go about fixing that, they're more than welcome to. I've had enough headaches messing with it.

I like the music in BTSX, and since a lot of the tracks don't feel like your typical Doom-y music, I tried playing them in Hexen. So here is a pk3 that replaces all of Hexen's music with tracks from BTSX Ep 1 & 2. Instead of supplying an edited MAPINFO lump, this pk3 changes the names of the .mids themselves; this way, it shouldn't conflict if you're using it with a weapon mod that supports Hexen, like Trailblazer. Open it up in SLADE and you'll find MAPPING.txt, which tells you what BTSX track is mapped to Hexen's tracks. With as many of the maps as I could, I tried to use tracks that were close in feel to that map's setting; let me know if you think some tracks could stand to be swapped around. The unused tracks from both episodes are in the 'E1' and 'E2' folders.

I'm not sure if this is related to a transparency issue but I noticed afterwards I had been playing Project MSX and Project Brutality with HUD elements missing for years. But my biggest problem wasn't even that. I would constantly experience momentary but noticeable lag with several other mods. Occasionally this would culminate with a hard crash, I can't imagine what this would do to toasters. I used to use a 4670k/GTX780 and now have a Ryzen 7/GTX1080 both running the game on an SSD.

It turns out the reason why was the texture format I chose. I kept using the (not at computer) SVCT_VT5 (?) format for years because I preferred the appearance. I was fiddling around with options and tried out RGA8. All my issues disappeared. I discovered I had been subtly playing the game at a slower pace because there was a persistent lag. I've been replaying everything and everything feels fresh. It's like I'm rediscovering doom mods. No more lag, no more crashing. Even mods with errors don't lag or crash.

The game is capped to 30fps by default, if that's what you're referring to with 8fps anyways.

You can change the renderer by going to Preferences->Graphics and clicking on the Rendering System to change it to Software. I get better performance with the OpenGL renderer than I do with software, though.

Does any of you goys have a suggestion what kind of weapon the Wehrmacht/SS classes in Moonman doom should have for the Supershotgun? Right now they have those weapons: [SS - WM]

Chainsaw = Spade : Same

Fist = Knife : Same

Shotgun = Gewehr 41 : Karabiner 98k

Super shotgun = Winchester 1897/Schrotflinte 1897 (a/(usa?)) : Same

Chaingun = Stg-44 : MPi-40

Rocket launcher = Panzerfaust 100m and Stielgranate 24 : Same

Plasmagun = MG-42 : FG-42

BFG9000 = V2 Werfer

I could probably put the Flamethrower in the SSG slot instead but it needs to be heavily nerfed as it is the closet weapon that it is powerful in close range only but it doesn't fulfill the long-ish "cool down" time, and as the name implies it has a constant firing rate were in SSG it needs to be "reloaded" first. The MG-42/FG-42 weapons seems to be a better fit as a Plasmagun replacement since they have a similar firepower characteristic minus the projectile. Also if anybody of you can draw/edit images I would need at least 1 mugshot for those 2 classes because they are stuck with Hitler mugshot.

My explanation. 1) There is at least 4 moda were you get to kill ebvul germans for ZDoom (Wolfenstein infinity, wild greasel Nazis!, Kriegsland, brootal wolfenstein) 2) There is only 1 mod* were you play as German but the player has a Sergeant/Offizier role then a Soldier role 3) adding more weapons to Hitler would clutter the slots, more classes fixes this. 4) I don't know ACS at all enough to change how the weapon pick up works so that the player can choose his "Loadout" instead i.e picking up a Kar98k instead of a Gewehr 41. 5) Other anons made a request for a few more classes (Sam Hyde, Star man, Cloudman)

That was my explanation why I want to add 2 more German related classes.

*I also want to note it I find it interesting how this author has to make excuses several times that he is not a "Nazi" by any means just in order to evade the moderator butthurt so that he doesn't get banned, yet for those 4 other mods the author doesn't have to apologize at all for their mods existence. Hmm I could try later making a addon instead which includes a few more classes once I am done adding other features such as different ammo sprites for classes and for the moonman mod itself just keeping the 3 base classes.

But honestly if you remove everything that isn't the gore and slightly tweaked weapons there's basically nothing interesting in BD, at that point you're basically better off using ketchup or not since it's not really that interesting and just adds visual clutter as with all gore mods on vanilla or with a near vanilla weapon pack since it's very likely more interesting to play because the balance really isn't BD's strong point even the AI tweaks don't really make it that interesting to play. part of why I enjoy some PB from time to time even if I'd love to tweak a few things about it but lack the knowledge and will to botehr doing it
