Forget the stuff like 'rusty, worn down industrial settings' or 'spooky but childish halloween aesthetic'. Visuals are great and we all have the ones that make us more likely to play something. But what about ideas? things in a games dna that are garuanteed to make you overlook flaws in other departments so you love the game all the more?
For me its the 'context changing twist'. A reveal that isn't 'no MC, you are the monster' specifically but plot related stuff that on replay is teased much earlier than the reveal and you never noticed.
For example:
>Nier: If you take the time to notice the early 'monsters' dont attack you and drop schoolbooks, in NG+ you get subs for their croaking, jibbering noises and you learn these are the disembodied souls of human children wondering why their parents arent here to save them from the bad man
>Warframe: the ability for your character to constantly respawn gets explained when you reach the source of your powers. A machine opens and inside is a child. Your robo ninja god king warrior slumps to the ground like a puppet with its strings cut. You have finally woken up and are in control of your real body and not your puppet. For the years you have been playing you have unknowingly been a robot body piloted by a child in a stasis tank
>Etrian Odyssey: in a fantasy world a great collection of world trees, around one or two per continent, cover the world and adventurers climb their dizzying hieghts and cavernous depths looking for treasure. Often finding the cobble and stonework of the modern day give with to ancient ruins of rebar and concrete and later steel and plastic. This is no fantasy world but the ruins of cities like Tokyo and Toronto. This is earths far future and the world trees are machines created to restore a dying biosphere
>Final Fantasy IX sends you to a 'temple' on a forgotten continent that turns out late into this 'picturebook fairy tale fantasy' to be a crashed spaceship from an alien world called 'earth'. Its native people called 'humans' died out but send homunculi like kuja and zidane as sleeper agents to Gaia to interrupt its flow of souls and reincarnation and replace it with earth/terras while starting up wars to speed up the cycle of rebirth with humans being born instead of native life and grown up early gen humans like steiner and beatrix -different to the gaian analogue of the summoner tribe who are like humans but with a horn- are super strong and eventually would have reached enough numbers to be the dominant species as the native gaians are all killed off and not reincarnated.
These are things that aren't just a twist for a shocking reveal, but they effect replays where you see something and go "oooooh shit, thats what this meant all along?" and that shit metaphorically gets my dick rock hard.
What concept in games rev your engine like this?

>This is the old west to a T
>Oh wait no its not, this world is suffering an ecological cataclysm like midworld from the dark tower and it only became a wild west culture as the slow decline lead to an urgent adaptation by the dwindling population. It should be a rich fantasy land like dragon quest but everything is running on fumes
Compare that to FF7

>city is dark and bleak, ground dead and sky full of smokestacks bleching poisons
>finally leave midgar

If we're talking about perspective changing twists, I think I may have one:
Miranda is technically not a biological female. Not a normal one, anyways. She's actually a modified copy of her father's genome (his XY chromosomes) and only had 1 parent and no mother. Because of this, this is basically why she can't conceive children like a regular woman can. Her biological makeup is that of a mutated copy of a man's DNA (and men can't get pregnant) and wasn't born as a normal girl with natural X chromosomes (whereas women Can get pregnant).
Therefore, Miranda is technically a fake woman. Or "trap", as some would say.
From Miranda's In-Game Dossier In Mass Effect 2, Which Explains Her Unusual Birth:
http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Miranda_Lawson#Dossier
>Miranda was born in 2150. As she explains to Shepard, Miranda never had a mother, only a father who is extremely influential, wealthy, and ego-maniacal. Using a modified copy of his own genome, Miranda was genetically engineered to be a specimen of human perfection. She never had a mother, as she was not conceived naturally. She was not the first "daughter" he ever designed, just the first he kept. Everything, from her intelligence, physical constitution, biotic abilities, to her appearance were designed before birth to be excellent. She boasts about being able to shoot a mech's head off from 100 meters away or just as easily crush it with her biotic powers. Miranda also heals faster than other humans and will probably live half a lifespan longer. If Shepard accuses her of being cocky, she retorts that she's only stating the facts.
>However, Miranda’s gifts were a burden growing up. Despite her accomplishments, Miranda’s perfectionist father never showed approval or pride towards his daughter. He always expected more and better from her — forever chiding her to be greater than she already was. He also imposed a very strict lifestyle on Miranda, and forbade her from making friends and having a social life. Miranda remarks that he didn't want a daughter as much as a dynasty, which was why he used his own genetic template to create her. The constant pressure and lack of affection led Miranda to relinquish her privileged lifestyle and run away from home as soon as she could — although some gunfire was involved. Her father used his extensive network of contacts to chase her across the galaxy, but she managed to elude him nonetheless.

Slow increase of complexity. I have a boner for metroidvania for this, bonus points if it is taken to extremes like Candy Box or A Dark Room. I also like alternating point of views either in plot or gameplay (if both, even better), playing as the baddie or that-guy-everybody-ignores is cool, if he plays differently giving whole new meaning to old mechanics or environment objects that seemed to be props (the famous metroidvania click) it's a guaranteed mental orgasm.
Pics related, alternate point of view examples.
Never played any SMT, I just heard that Hazama's Chapter is a good example of playing as the baddie thing
I didn't forget about Biker, his gameplay just sucks
Also, I like the normal life by the day fighting evil by the night that nuPersona does, but I have this feeling that was never fully actualized, so I can't give any examples. Recettear kinda does this, and there's Moonlighter that proposes doing something like that but with a 2d zelda roguelike gameplay, but dunno it's not out yet.

It's a rare experience, especially since it's not the kind of thing you can look for without spoilers, but I enjoy playing games where you have no idea what the tone is actually supposed to be at first. Not in the sense of a big TWEEST in tone like Eversion, but in actually getting conflicting signals about what the devs are even going for.
I think the last game I played like that was Harvey's New Eyes. Although that really just turned out weird and schizophrenic rather than reaching a satisfactory conclusion. Then again, I guess it's not the kind of thing that's going to happen if the dev is a good storyteller in the first place.

Yeah… I kinda agree… they almost all have a downside to them.
>Ashley
She looks pretty generic and decent imo, but other than that, can still bear you human children unlike most other options.
>Liara
Her race can change their sex at any time. If she so wanted to, she can actually change her genitals to be "male" at any time she wishes. Kinda gay tbh, but apart from that, the Asari are the only aliens that can still bear Shepard's offspring. [Not human children though. Just more sexually fluid Asari kids.]
>Sha'ira
The same nitpick/issue as Liara (their race's "genital weirdness"), but unlike Liara who is a virgin for the taking, Sha'ira is a whore that's been fucked by so many dicks.
>Miranda
As I explained above, Miranda's not a biologically normal female. Her genetic makeup is based on her male father's genome, which has rendered her incapable of producing any children for Shepard. She still has a great ass and tits, but she's basically an infertile genetic anomaly. Not a regular biological woman.
>Tali
She complains about getting infections and sick in the conversations after Shepard has skin-to-skin sex with her. Because the Quarians' immune system is so weak, Shepard can't have sex with her too often in such a short time frame. Or else he'll just run the risk of killing her if he doesn't give her body enough time to recover from the last time they fucked. Not to mention that if he Does fuck her before she fully recovers, it'll likely be gross to fuck a body full of infections. Like rashes, pus, and other nasty stuff.
>Jack
Talk about baggage. This drug-abused skinhead has been raped and fucked so many times by numerous criminals and cults, god only knows how many STDs and diseases she has racked up over the years. [This is just a personal subjective thing, but I hated both of her shaved hairstyles in ME2 and ME3.]
>Kelly
She looks pretty good in ME2 imo, but her face got hit massively hard with the ugly stick in ME3. Seriously. What the fuck happened to her face in such a short time period?
>Samara
Another Asari. And a mother of three at that. Again, the Asari's genitals are a mystery box that I would honestly rather not open. [Samara also has something funky going on with her genetics if she kept producing three vampiric Ardat-Yakshi kids in a row. Probably best for Shepard not to create a fourth.]
>Morinth
Samara's daughter, but I personally find her less attractive than her mother. (And both of them less attractive than Liara.) She's also an Ardat-Yakshi, so anyone stupid enough to fuck her is gonna die and have their life force sucked out. And finally, even if you spare her in ME2, she'll still become a repulsive ugly monster you gotta kill in ME3 regardless.
>Samantha
Her brown face looks kinda shrunken and weird imo, and she's a lesbian to boot. Someone who won't put out for male Shepards.
>Diana
Her model is based on Jessica Chobot, but the modelers somehow made her face even more super melted than the real thing's face.

Mount & Blade: Warband. Especially some of the mods.
>cavalry charging at you
>throw an axe
>down the rider that has their lance aimed right at your face
so fucking satisfying

Games where your power grows not with levelling up but with your skill at manipulating your toolset better. Magicka being a good example, apart from the eventual meta-stuff, with Magicka you start out awkwardly tossing the occasional fireball and spraying flames and slowly healing and mostly panicking and running around. Then later on you're belting out potent spells left and right and skillfully controlling the battlefield. Still just combining the same basic elements but you've learned to play better and that's where your fancy abilities come from - your own skill.

Good or just interesting sandbox AI would be mine.
I have a massive boner for that shit thanks to the time I spent trying to save marines in the older Halo games. Watching the AI fight each other is really entertaining to me for some reason too. My guess is that it had to do with the unique personalities they gave the different npc types.

>What is your biggest none visuals related gaming fetish?
When every female nip voice actor sounds like they're crying out in sexual ecstasy from taking any sort of damage.

>Warframe: the ability for your character to constantly respawn gets explained when you reach the source of your powers. A machine opens and inside is a child.
I heard this ruined the game for people when it was retroactively made canon, rather than the player being an interesting ayylmao race.

Games with really fleshed out lore, world building, and history that you can read about on wikis for hours, or at least books. Not so much the books because I want to play the game when I have the time to play it and learn about it when I am away. If there is anything that can contend with a lore like Warhammer 40k (not exactly vidya but I find the story fascinating) I need it.
