I can't believe they're not fucking this remaster up. You'd think with it being a Kojima game (an unpopular one that sold poorly as well), they'd botch it as much as possible on purpose.

Also worth mentioning is BattleTech - The Crescent Hawk's Inception, an RPG set in the Battletech universe in the vein of Wasteland. It's ancient by today's standards but if you're really desperate for more Battletech that's your best bet.

Also, while MechCommander 2 is a very inferior sequel to the first game with a few modding tweaks, especially when it comes to the AI, it can be fun.

Armored Core 2/AA had

>broken AI and hitboxes in a few places

>broken HUD in SW

those are fixable now

Still has

>broken graphics in the Phobos corridor

>graphical issue when there's the heat wave effect present

>broken HUD when using high res

>broken shadows in some specific cases

>WS patch causes a couple cutscenes to break visually

3/SL had

>weird graphical issues in a few levels

>broken HUD or text when upscaling the fix ain't perfect as the text/HUD become blurry as hell

that is fixable now

Still has

>few graphical issues involving the water textures if using HW rendering / higher res

>broken reflections and depth with DX11/9 HW might actually get fixed randomly since they're backporting loads of shit into DX11

>major speed issues in a few places when using OGL HW rendering (Extra Arena, levels with heat distortion effects, level with lot of transparency and load of depth lookups like the intro level)

>vertical wall shadows in a few place for SL

Nexus/LR I haven't done yet but they had little issues last I tried, mostly the HUD being broken and general slowness.

I'd need to check those two more fully but right now I can tell you that Nexus doesn't seem particularly broken outside of the radar, runs rather decently compared to 3/SL even.

LR on the other hand has issues, any and all black loading screen will cause VRAM usage spikes the which of like I have never seen in my life (750MB to over 7.5GB when upscaling or 3.2GB when using native res) and there's a disgusting filter that prevents you from truly getting the "upscaled" look (meaning that the game does weird stuff and that it's probably unfixable without a specific fix for that game and I doubt that's gonna happen), other than that if you turn higher res in the middle of a mission it runs fine and you gain a tiny bit of detail on stuff but you better turn that shit off before the result screen because the spikes are intense

d4c825 No.14704796

>>14704785

>Nigger I've been reporting bugs and glitches to PCSX2 for years now

Considering you don't seem to know the first thing about the gameDB, how it works and why the patches to it shouldn't take long to push unless someone is procrastinating I'm gonna go with either you can't report a bug well enough, you never actually did report anything or you only used the forums which are basically ignored at this point

>Not to mention these are game specific hacks which could break other shit in the game.

Rounding and Clamping mode aren't "game specific hacks" you're thinking of CRC hacks, not to mention the GameDB works in the way it does specifically because of possible bad interactions with some specific settings for those in some games, and you should already know to change back to default when you switch games if you're gonna fiddle manually.

First time to the rodeo eh?

>Rounding and Clamping mode aren't "game specific hacks"

Rounding and clamping to "fix" specific sections of a game are game specific hacks. They end up breaking other parts of the same game.

>Rounding and clamping to "fix" specific sections of a game are game specific hacks.

That's not what game specific hacks are, manually patching out a drawcall in a specific game like with CRC hack is game specific, changing the way the emulated EE clamps or round floating point numbers is about as generic a hack you're ever gonna find.

>They end up breaking other parts of the same game.

I forget now exactly what they did, but they were equivalent to health potions in that using them made you about twice as effective for a single fight. You could buy them with earned currency too, but not enough to actually afford to use them and you wouldn't be able to buy mechs and other shit if you did.

There was a time that I really enjoyed it, never put a dime into it, was in the alpha tests way way back (iirc they drew your name in lots to see who could get access), thought it was fine for what it was, a little arena shooter. I stopped playing when they brought it to steam (in beta I think) because there was an update that like halved the TTK and it upset me.

I played it again a year or so after and had some good fun with it for a few weeks, I got really good with it, unlocked every mech I think you could get for free (thought I found a couple of the low tier and one of the starting mechs to be the best/most fun).

Sad it's dead but I think it was just mismanaged into the ground, and I've moved on.

Basically because Battletech the game doesn't actually appeal to casuals. People attach themselves to the battletech license because they FEEL that it's a series for people who like tactics, or complexity, or to basically virtue signal that they aren't casuals. A lot of the modern battletech fanbase is basically reddit tier "xddd stompy robots!!" manchildren who only care about the games themselves superficially.

I played a lot of mechwarrior: living legends before the new mod team (of community members) decided to start updating it. Most of the people playing it were very chill and we discussed the game and could talk about it in its own terms, and not in terms of really the greater battletech license. I never cared about the lore because the game ignored it at convenience in order to be a decent game.

When the updates started however, we got all these complete casuals joining the community, basically RPing as if they loved battletech (but only ever played MW:O) and people talking about how great the "stompy robots" are. It was seriously like a bunch of children pretending to like something because their cool older brother told them it was cool 20 years ago.

Even on /v/ in the early Battletech 2018 threads, before it was revealed just how pozzed the game was, people said things like "why aren't they making it 1:1 board game, that's what the battletech fans WANT". They were ironically correct, and when people brought up megamek, you got fucking crickets.

My conclusion is that the modern battletech 'fan' doesn't actually like or care about the board game, they just like the mechs, and the prestige of the series. They won't subject themselves to megamek because it doesn't have any graphics beyond the overhead board. As the recent battletech 2018 game proves, people will buy anything with the franchise name on it, but I'm more sickened by the people who ought to know better, the aforementioned people who came from MW:O (and go on about how bad it is and preach to the choir about how MWLL is better) and now play MWLL are now talking about how excited they are for MW5.

tl;dr battletech the license has the prestige of being a hardcore smart game for smart people because of the board game but most modern fans don't actually care about the board game itself beyond being able to quote a few things from the wiki

Here is how:

>configure your controls properly.

>learn how to manage your thruster

>learn how to aim

That's really it. You see, when you launch , you keep your momentum even when you don't use your thrusters. You don't actually have to keep your thrusters on all the time mid-air.

You also have a shocking amount of control mid-air, even when not using thrusters. You ought to notice how I use my thrusters in the videos now.

Another very important thing is this: use your thrusters before landing. That way, you don't have a landing animation and basically glide into moving on the ground again. It's a bit janky in the PS1 games but later installment make it smoother. If you don't do that, you'll lose all momentum since teh landing animation makes you completely stationary for about a second.

>Wasting millions in side projects like comics, movies, VR, when the game isn't finished.

>Wasting hundreds of hours of man power on a match making system that would never work even if did have an acceptable design in theory because the game's population was always too low.

>Flip flopping on how they wanted to do customization, even years after the open beta release.

>Speed mechs with burst weapons were the most OP classes in the game by far.

>Healing loadouts were the most OP loadouts by far.

>Combine the last two for absolutely No Fun Allowed mode unless you had the same loadout.

>Technicians single handedly broke the game, even worse than bursty speed mechs. If the other team had one, and you didn't, then GG unless the other team was full of mouth breathers.

This was all before the Steam update, where the game play bombed so hard it bankrupted the first development team.

And apparently a disgruntled anonymous intern once revealed to the "veteran" community that the code was so spaghetti it was impossible to balance mechs, unless the tiny team was willing to put in the effort to rewrite whole chunks of code with the beta already released. Somehow changing one weapon on one mech would make the same changes to the same weapon on every other mech. And somehow secondary weapons assigned to this or that mech were "locked in" to that mech, making them impossible to edit in any way.

>God fucking help you if you don't fully encase your cockpit in armor and spacers.

Meanwhile I'm trying to make cool looking/fun HOUNDs and keep getting my dick ripped off and handed to me.

>Mech that uses napalm howitzers to burninate the countryside

All worthless compared to covered cockpits, stick legs, and cannon stacks.

Most fun I have ever had in an online game, though.

Most of the Front Mission games never officially made it to the West but most of them have fan translations with the exception of Alternative.

If anyone here is looking for a very good mecha tactics game to play I highly recommend Zeonic Front. It's a blend of Gundam/Rainbow Six from a Zeon perspective, where you can plan your missions and and troop loadouts to achieve your objectives. It's alot of fun.

I have this issue with both ZOE and Transformers Devastation - those are just cuhrayzee games, and while good ones at that, there is nothing "mecha" about them apart from character skins.

Those might as well be Dantes or Bayonettas.

Making another generick platinum game and slapping Getter skin on it would be a disgrace.

Getter game should either have unique, definitive gameplay that would set it apart from the rest of the vidya, or not exist at all.

You can play as Getter in A.C.E.3 and it's fucking travesty.

Gundam had some pretty cool mech games, like Climax UC, where you play a grunt in the OYW (either Fed or Zeon), marry a waifu and then play as your child. There's also an RTS for Gundam on the PSP, the various Gihren's Greed games (Hearts of Iron with turn based tactical battles) though the post OYW content for Zeon is seriously lacking compared to the Fed side thanks to those Bacmo cucks.

Macross has Ace Frontier on the PSP which is pretty cool (and has a shitload of content), as well as a PS2 game for the original TV show. There's also a boatload of more obscure games, like the sequels for RAD (one on the PS2 and the other on the NDS), Medabot games (do they count as mechs?), the sequel to Danbōru Senki (we only got the first one on the 3DS). Hell, I forgot more Japan only mech games that I can remember.

I think that this would be appropriate: a team-based with toggleable arcade or casual mode flight simulator which requires you for precise pinpoint gattai with your teammates into a Getter 1/2/3, where each player controls the parts of the transformed Getter Machine they're in to move, attack, block, dodge, anything, or all commands are issued from the Getter Machine on the top, and actions like dodging/blocking/attacks/special attacks require synchronized input (or QTE fot special attacks).

Also you can play solo with AI co-pilots and suffer from worse perfomance and weaker damage output.

>Some things are best left unmade. In the current state of vidya it would be a failure one way or the other.

I know, right? Let a man dream.

There's just no way that something like Getter Robo will get its own official game ever again, especially with a gameplay that is non-friendly for normalniggers.

I got a bit autistic about it lately, to the point where I try to recreate Getter/Getter Robo forms in various games that let you create/customize robots: AC series, Custom Robo series, Front Mission serirs, you name it. I haven't tried the Gundam Breaker series yet, though. I'm not strapped for originality, it's just that there is not enough GETTER in this world.

Yet the best game for creating a GR would be Machinecraft. Its customization options are freaking insane. I succeeded at making a crappy super robot there so I got the hang of it. I could make the Getter Machines there with the transformations and combining, though the shitty physics in the engine could make everything weird. I'll probably dump screenshots with this horrible shit 2-3 months later in some other /v/'s /m/ game thread.

That's like playing Afterburner and asking "what's the point of it being a jet if it doesn't control like one?" The fact is, a lot of mecha are just action heroes in a robot skin. And, aside from when the pilots individually control the separate machines, Getter is no different. It's just a super hero that they say uses all these sticks, levers, and buttons to control. I can assure you that no one, even Ishikawa, put any thought into how the pilots actually make their humanoid robot do all the shit it does.

Anything like what you're suggesting would be way too slow to do Getter Robo any justice. Getter is a super hero and moves like one too. Though I do agree that the Getter shouldn't feel light on its feet, being a giant robot, it also shouldn't drive like a tank. So why is it a problem that mecha games inspired by such shows don't play like tanky mechs? That's like expecting a race car game to control like driving a semi. Games like Z.O.E. aren't trying to replicate piloting tanky mechs. They're trying to replicate the feeling of intense, high-energy action you get out of shows like Gunbuster and some of the sillier Gundams.

Pretty sure it is possible for a games with "mecha skin" to be felt like you control the robot by restricting the movement a bit (like in AC or EDF) and making the interactions with ground/objects/enemy full of dust, tremor and CLANGing (like in R.A.D.).

The word "mech" itself is just shortened "mecha". In Nipponese language the word means anything mechanical. What I want to say is that considering an unmanned sentient giant robot a mech is not too much of a stretch. You know, Transformers' 80's series and the later ones had considerable influence on the genre. At the very least it is honorary mecha. Also humans can pilot/drive Transformers' vehicle modes and there were kids in Masterforce who could take robot forms. So it's still mecha even by your standarts, even if barely.

Bayformers are shit though.

This isn't Japan, though, and he wasn't asking about "mecha" games, he was asking about "mech" games. There's a distinction, here, in the west. I would consider Transformers to be mecha, much like the Brave series, but Cybertronians are not mechs. The closest they get to being mechs are headmasters, and that's a stretch.

Why is it so bad? Did they not know what to do after the Genobee battle?

Um, what?

Are you sure you are not confusing Mechwarriors' 'Mechs with mechs?

Yeah, it was weird and FromSoftware didn't even gave players a chance.

>beat the Nineball rip-off

>cutscene appears

>huh, what? okay

>get spawned at that fucking rooftop in my Gundam-esque AC

>see the swarm

>oh, okay

>1 minute of dodging, shield blocking and shooting from my 1000 ammo machinegun later

>the zerg rush is still intense

>lose about 2000 AP

>oh, shit

>see that drones act quite retarded

>dash and hide behind the small column at the corner

>drones from the big main spawn point can't touch me but drones from the additional side spawn points fly straight ahead at me

>block and shoot those down with everything I had while remaining stationary behind the cover

>discard the missile launcher

>discard the gun

>only solid shield and EO are left

>~1300 AP left

>suddenly the spawning stops

>oh yeah, I did it

>AC Nexus: no you did not

>the screen fades to black

>everything implies that I died

>tfw survived the hardest part of the game but it gave no fucks

I still liked it though.

Afterburner is shit.

There seems to be an inconsistency between the Mechwarrior games and the novels.

I'm currently rereading Decision at Thunderrift, which is somewhat noteworthy for being the first novel.

The novel is filled with mentions of mechs rolling over their shoulder to evade shots, bracing on hands and knees after losing balance, moving upper arms to take a shot intended for torso or head etc.

A Wasp is even mentioned going down on a bended knee, sighting down his laser akin to a gunslinger.

Overall the entire combat seems more fitting for Battletech's roots in Japanese Mecha, though I'm not particularly familiar with it.

It's easier to write about mechs doing that, than it is to implement it into a simulator-like control scheme.

For sure but with most people knowing the games and not the rest of the franchise I feel as if there are wrong expectations of a proper battletech game.

Aside from it being interesting in of itself.

Also for whatever reason every frontier pirate group seems to possess multiple assault mechs these days.

The ones i got here were bolted together from corpses of multiple ones i cored instead of just picking pieces of a single one i met and successfully hit in the head to kill the pilot and claim his mech.

I've been trying to play Mechwarrior 2 using the Quadrology pac, but I can't seem to get the mouse y-axis inverted. I've tried the invert mouse fix flag in the launcher, modifying input.map and mouse.map, switching the up/down flag in cockpit controls, nothing seems to work. Anyone else run into this?

>Miyamoto wanted to make a heavy vehicle simulator game with it's own custom controller

>Then Steel Battalion came out and he didn't want to do it anymore

>He only brought up this info, when working on Steel Diver (3DS) because its the closest to his idea now with the various in game submarines being controlled with different buttons, knobs, slide switches controls on the 3DS touch screen.

>I wouldn't be surprised if he ever attempts this idea again it might be with a future Labo mech cockpit controller

I would play the shit out of megamek if it could throw random scenarios/campaigns at me.

Imagine slowly building up a merc company through contracts and salvage.

Buying your own dropships, jumpships, hell even your own damn space station.

There's a few sites doing multiplayer campaigns with modified megamek clients. Or there's the "against the bot" campaign mode in MekHQ.

Or if you are really autistic, like me, you can just play a campaign against yourself.
