We had those threads in the past and they're always fucking fun so let's post some anime you would like to see made into a video game and describe
Hitsugi no Chaika
>A crpg with character creation, the gameplay of Baldur's Gate but also an anime style.
>You play as an adventurer who isn't really known, you have your typical classes but you can also play as a saboteur or any other in-universe class.
>During the game you come across different Chaika groups and can either help them or join Gillette and his gang
>Emperor Gaz is the final boss
Probably would be better as a tabletop RPG though
Kill la Kill
>Literally just do Metal Gear Rising but with Kill la Kill's story
>You could even make Satsuki a playable character later on
>Even the whole "the lyrics kick in when you start wining" would work because of "Before my body is dry" and "Sanbika"

Overlord.
A blend between RTS, grand strategy and progression elements for both your empire and heroes.
Most of the game you strategize on how to assimilate the entire "New World", either earn the trust of villages or raid them entirely. Epic scale battles against other huge factions with their own set of heroes with unique perks that you have to strategize against. Have some hero only parts of the game where you sneak undercover and do quests to gain information.
Early game will be difficult as you're too small and shouldn't get noticed too soon or else you'll be collectively crushed. The way to circumvent this is to sneak in to small villages earn their trust and slowly build your skeleton army. Then as the game progresses you later gain notoriety and people begin to look for fights with you. To add complexity to the game you also might have to micromanage owned territories and your heroes/allies.

There were a TON of Sailor Moon games back in the day: at the very least there were two beat-em-ups, two fighting games, an RPG, and three puzzle games. And that's just on the SNES - the Game Gear had at least one platformer, there was another fighting game on the Saturn, and there was Sailor Instinct on the PS1. And surprising for licensed games, most of these were really rather good. The SuperS puzzle game in particular is maximum comfy.
That said, it's sad that Precure never recieved the same level of love. Given that the whole concept of Precure was basically "Sailor Moon but with more martial arts", it's criminal that there hasn't even been one Precure fighting game or beat-em-up. Somebody like Platinum could do wonders with the fundamental Precure fighting style of leaping 40 feet into the air and punching giant monsters in the face.
There ARE a few Precure games on the DS, but they all seem to be along the lines of "change our clothes and chat with us, tee-hee" and not having much in the way of actual gameplay.
(Apparently Precure also keeps won Famitsu's poll for "which anime should become a musou game next", but nobody seems to be paying attention.)

I tried looking at the EO games and whilst I've never played one of those games where you move around on a grid and sometimes even have to draw your own maps, it's not really my idea of a Made in Abyss videogame. Those games use random encounters too. As in, visually, you just move forward and then there's a transition to a battle with a monster you didn't see coming at all. So there's just this total divide between exploration and the actual gameplay of the combat. When I envisioned a Made in Abyss videogame, it was going to be something along the lines of Breath of the Wild or Ni no Kuni 2 where you have these large environments to move around in, can see monsters roaming around in too and can interact with the monsters or the environment in various ways or even watch the monsters interact with the environment or each other.
I've never tried EO's kind of game before but there's no way I'd play a Made in Abyss game if that's how they do it where you just move around on a grid.

When people want to play a made in abyss video game I feel like they specifically want to play the manga/anime rather than as a group of red whistles trying to make it on their own. It's easy to design an action-adventure game around a specific group of characters with specific roles and set areas/Hub worlds and the video posted >>14685708 highlights the flow of the gameplay. I'd want to play that as well as it has the potential to be really good in the right studio's hands, but I've been a long-time player of dungeon crawlers and I did play EOIII as well and it does feel like MiA took some notes from that game specifically in the franchise. I think the idea can work here as well to provide a different experience than what some people might expect from the premise.
I wouldn't do a complete 1:1 of Etrian Odyssey's gameplay, but despite being grid based the maps feel nice and organic. Part of that comes down to map design and the player charting their progress. Lots of interconnectivity, open areas mixed with tunnels and paths. And lots of shortcuts as you explore and open up new areas. Mapping it all just sets it in your mind better than working through corridors with an auto-mapping function.
Another thing that the earlier titles did well was create an illusion of an ecosystem through their enemy encounters. You can get a feel for who hunts who, and what creatures are the top dog of a particular floor/stratum based on how enemy encounters are presented and change as you move around any area. I remember the first game had an area that starts out with things like giant frogs, turtles, and other aquatic creatures that fit the region. Then suddenly it's ant city within the same floor as you move closer and closer into this colony that has taken up root in the area. In my head it painted a clear picture that this sort of underwater rainforest had been invaded by creatures from a deeper region and even though everything was on a 2D plane and based around sprites I could imagine that these creature had burrowed onto this floor and set up shop and because of their numbers and ferocoius Queen even the floor's usual predators gave the colony a wide berth.
My point here is that with a bit of imagination even a flat map takes on new depth and that's something that lends itself well to trying to replicate a massive amount of space with limited resources.
>So there's just this total divide between exploration and the actual gameplay of the combat
The games have a sort of Radar that tells you when enemy encounters are going to happen. So you're never completely unaware that there is one sneaking up on you. And there are plenty of excuses to justify "random" encounters even in the abyss for smaller creatures. It's not like the abyss doesn't have room for enemies that are "random" in the sense that they suddenly swoop/unburrow/charge from some hidden location but I see your point.
There are also F.O.E encounters which are enemies that are represented on the game map and they move on a turn-by-turn basis much like the player's group. So creatures like the Orbed Piercer or Scarlet maw (and even that praying mantis thing from the 2nd Stratum) would be on the field and represent an obstacle players would need to avoid. The way F.O.E's have evolved over the years, flying types are better accounted for and can move through terrain that would usually block the player. They can spawn from specific points on the map depending on how you fluff that out. And their movement patterns and behaviors can vary too depending on the type of creature. F.O.E's can also enter into any combat they might be near, so they can just barge in and now the encounter has changed from bad to worse.

There are still changes I would make from EOIII in service of better replicating what MiA feels like to me. I'd pull something that I experienced in the Ultima series for a dungeon crawler like this. Positioning on the battlefield is important in MiA, and I would have it so that entering into combat puts players onto a battle grid as opposed to having people occupy the more simplistic battle maps of EO. I'd go so far as to say make the battle maps of a MiA dungeon crawler like FF: Tactics since things like altitude are also a factor in combat (as well as curse potentially fucking with PC's party). But being able to coordinate your group within a map feels more appropriate, and you can play with things like how creatures like the Orbed Piercer can "read your inputs" when you design those encounters.
Floors would also need a bit more verticality to them so adding more planes to an individual floor, or ways to utilize cliffs or other climbable surfaces into exploration would be a must.
A curse mechanic is obvious, and it needs to carry status effects that players would need to acclimate their characters too, or have support systems in place for the one's that don't. One thing about EO and other dungeon crawlers is that you can control a fairly large number of characters within the context of some guild. So maybe having it so that if a group wipes or is rendered unable to return to the surface, you can send in a B-Team to either retrieve the people, or their bodies/loot. I wouldn't make it game over if your party wipes since I like the idea of the Guild being the actual player and any individual party you've assembled being your proxy. If they die you have to deal with that death and hire new people/send in your own vets to try and do better.
The idea of classes would need to be reworked as well. EO works with skill trees which I think is ideal, but you should also be able to gain skill points through things like exploration. But delvers are all combat types at a bare minimum so how you split up other roles and abilities like cooking, research, climbing related skills, etc. All that has to be factored in.
There's more I would do but I think you get my point. You could do a dungeon crawler based around this setting, at least in my mind.

The thought occurs that MiA is actually a perfect fit for a kind of Roguelike. Send your characters down, find treasures and artifacts, new weapons and armour, set up camps and waystations… of course, coming back from the Abyss is debilitating because of the curse, which would actually give a good in-universe reason for the obligatory "reset to level one when you leave the dungeon".
And that's just for the HIGHER levels. Get deep enough into the Abyss, and your character starts picking up permanent disabilities from the curse on return - but that's fair, because it balances out the absolutely broken equipment you'll have by that point. Get deep enough, and you simply CAN'T go back - you just need to get as far as you can, leave supplies and safe places for those who will come after you, and, before you die, be sure to send up one of those balloons carrying some of your kickass high level equipment so that your NEXT character can benefit from them… because getting to the bottom of the Abyss is going to be a multi-generational undertaking.

That's a reason I want to toy with the idea of parties being able to actually wipe or lose members but you control the guild rather than a specific group. The abyss is supposed to be lethal at the end of the day, Perma death and permanent injury would reinforce that.
As aggravating as it sounds, I'd like it if a game let me sink a bunch of time into a character but if they die, that's all she wrote.

Yeah, the lack of any Precure fighters (official or doujin) is really bizarre. Especially since Sailor Moon had at least three 2D fighters and two beat 'em ups. Instead, they just keep putting out those weird minigame collections on the DS/3DS. Sure, it's nice to be able to dance or cook or play instruments with your favourite magical girls, but there's a distinct lack of crazy superhuman kung-fu.
Weirdly, while there are TONS of hentai doujin comics about Precure (and I'm certainly not complaining), there seems to be a lot less fan-made games, and none of them are fighting games. The only thing that even comes close is this old classic from Chinchilla Softhouse based on the original series, which feels a bit like the old Sailor Moon side-scrollers.
5a621d No.14688545
>>14688425
I blame demographics.
Sailor Moon, as a title with widespread appeal and direction, got all sorts of tie-ins, with all sorts of audiences in mind. For Precure, Toei, especially as the years drag on, seem to be wanting to focus more and more heavily on the little girl audience while shunning or outright ignoring big friends. Perhaps Sailor Moon's various merchandise enterprises didn't sell as well as expected, leading them to abandon the strategy long-term? Perhaps they're content with the brand image right now? Maybe they hate dirty otaku money? Who can say, but they need to stop it right this goddamn second and give me the hardcore Precure 2.5D fightan of my dreams.
Still doesn't account for the silence from the doujin scene though. They can pump out 2hu game year after year for more than a decade (god bless), but can't do a single good Precure fighter? Something is wrong with that picture.

As I mentioned earlier, Slayers Royal hits all the story elements right. It really feels like a lost episode of the series in terms of the writing. Unfortunately, the gameplay is a barebones SRPG with a clusterfuck of a UI and zero character customization due to working with preset characters. It's currently the closest you'll get to a good Slayers game, and it's also Japan only with no translation efforts that I'm aware of.
I couldn't agree more with the MMO. As the Slayers universe is well developed and doesn't revolve around Lina and her friends, it's one of the best settings for an MMO I can think of. About the only other setting I can think of that I'd enjoy more would be Lost Universe. I love Slayers' particular brand of sword and sorcery, but the idea of exploring the universe in my own starship is the kind of shit I can't get enough of.

I mean, I wouldn't mind doing so but my idea of a MiA game was basically like one of those Star Wars MMO games where you play as some no-name but in that Universe's setting. The thing about Riko is, despite her mother's identity, she herself is a no-name that's inherited nothing from her mother. No sharingan, no Quincy-blood, no nothing. Without Reg, Riko would have a practically impossible time travelling through the abyss. Perhaps you can tweak the story a bit and set things up such that there's some kind of factory that's somehow mass-producing Auburns and they're being sent up in a memory-wiped state. This would be why every diver gets their own Reg or perhaps even, you're given a choice of jobs with "Auburn" being one too. Or perhaps you really do set the game up around the idea of people getting as far as they can, exploring the abyss and having a perma-death feature where all of their equips get left behind upon death, there for the next diver to pick up. Naturally, the game needs to be set up in a way such that despite the brutality, everyone really is working together to achieve the feat of understanding the abyss.
The problem of course being that an MMO has to keep you invested with the cashcow stuff. Personally, if I could run an MMO, I'd probably set a deadline to it, like 1 year and then that cataclysm thing would happen. The one that's hinted at with those praying skeletons and that briefly mentioned cult about some kind of cycle.
Otherwise, yeah, I guess I'd just want to play the manga/anime.

Am I the only one pissed off at how they treated kuwabara? I get being the comedy relief, but he never really grew in terms of power, or really had to use his powers in clever or interesting ways (after the castle arc), unlike all the other main characters. During the entire show, they just kept tacking on new powers that never got used again, like the double swords, shooting little swords/ changing his sword shape, and the sword that cut between dimensions.
Worst of all, he didn't get many good, serious fights. The very last one was with toguro the elder in the tournament arc, and afterwards he never had a real fight again. He was unable to use his powers for the entirety of the territory arc, up until he became a prop for the storyline, after which he got kidnapped and became useless again, sparingly used as a plot device but no action. In the very last arc, he didn't show up at all, he was taking high school entrance exams. Wew.

It was very weird but looking back on it, maybe Togashi devised it that way because of the Demon World arc. Every hero had some sort of connection to each faction of the Demon World, except for Kuwabara, who had none. It wouldn't have made sense for him to go there and join a group if nobody wanted him. Maybe they could've forced him into the story by making him team up with Yusuke, but that'd been awkward since Yusuke was supposed to deal with his father's faction alone.

Yeah, I saw that brought up in a thread a while back, along with the more familiar novel-game connections of Parasite Eve and Megami Tensei I. Apparently the Dororo game must have done something right in the way of reviving interest, because the series saw a live action movie (I assume of the original work, not the game) a couple years later, and there's been another anime adaptation as well (the previous one having been in 1969).
Reminds me though, there's a mech series I like that, while perhaps not worth a game in it's own right, should really be in crossover games. It's only been put in a single SRW back in 2009, a good 3-4 years after it aired. While I suppose there's only so many franchises you can work into a cohesive crossover plot at once, I suppose it's sadly kind of telling it's never come back.

Start from petty street crime, stopping vandals, guys stealing old lady's purses to moving up to fighting gangs, criminal organizations and then finally super villains and otherworldly threats.
We're overdue for a new GitS game that is good. Squad based tactical shooter, fun and fast TPS ala Vanquish fused with some stealth elements. A mix of the two to really nail the stories in GitS.

Aside from her mother's pickaxe, notes that saved their lives on many occasions, the fact that being Lyza's daughter gave her an in with Ozen, Reg was traveling with Lyza and probably ascended because of some direction from Lyza which either directly or indirectly ensured Riko could speedrun the abyss. Then there is the question of whether or not you can consider being intelligent genetic trait as Lyza is an exceptional explorer and Riko takes after her mother given how analytical both are despite their initial appearances (Lyza's notes are pretty meticulous).
Then sure, Riko got nothing from her mother outside her hair color. She got her father's potato face and cooking skills.

Never actually considered the possibility of an MMO. I would make it a very comfy Harvest Moon x Animal Crossing type of game, with a huge world map (but with fast travel so you don't have to cross entire Swiss mountain ranges to get back home) that you get to explore and interact with various farm animals, some light platforming and quirky minigames about Heidi's education/farm life, loads and loads of dialogue and comedy and overall just a comfy atmosphere. Bonus point if it lets you play some kind of sled/snowboard minigame with a completely different vibe and music (think SSX Tricky) that is very simple in nature but that could very well be its own game. The end goal of the game though should be some sort of collectaton, just to give you an objective to get to the various areas (and maybe locking them with a flag until you go through enough of the collectables).
>Moomin
Isn't that finnocartoon a bit horrific in nature? I'd perform the ArmJoe treatment on it. A completely different gameplay experience than what the source material might imply. Maybe a first person shooter with 90's cartoons aesthetics.

Meanwhile the demon realm arc was way to big for him and he had nothing to do there unlike the rest of the cast. It also doesn't help how rushed the demon realm arc was.

Jesus fucking christ guys you're overthinking it, to the point where you could even ruin the game entirely.
The entire point of MiA is that there is a fuckhuge hole in the ground that people have to get to the bottom filled with natural and mystical anomalies and artifacts. They have to make it to the bottom despite the dangers or could either give up at a point once they run out of materials and go back up, but once you go too deep, you will face the consequences.
The game needs to pretty much be that, Idk what kinds of games that you play but you must have some kind of shit taste to think thats not possible in the current era, and no the game should be EOIII, those games are shit and won't ever live up to MiA's greatness.
What I think the game will need is
>Open world
which consists entirely of the town above and every nook and cranny of the abyss
>Character/Attribute customization
This gives you your own identity to want to survive with and your own specialties and liabilities, like how pretty much everyone has in the abyss. I kinda want it to be like Dragons Dogma where your physical features mirror your physical abilities but maybe thats going to far. Also no playing as Reg or Riko, thats gay and dumb
>An alive and functioning ecosystem
Some games managed to mimic this to a degree, MHW tried in a way that shit is going on independent of you, but in a small scale
I want the entire abyss to be alive
>Minimal inventory space
Just like in the manga you have to decide what to take with you on your descent and manage your inv well, you can increase you inv with a backpack and extra pockets on your clothes but they can be broken and your shit could spill out if they break
>Survival and Permadeath
Thats one of the main points of MiA
If you die you get to start over and the town on the surface and try again
>Mainly skill/knowledge based gameplay
Going through the abyss should make you a better delver realistically, and every time you go down you get a better knowledge of the abyss and game mechanics, and a bit of EXP, which only adds minimal stat boosts every time you level up
>Crafting and Cooking
Thats pretty much a no brainer down in the abyss
>Simple but also strategic combat system
You could bring a variety of weapons down into the abyss, all with their basic functions, but for some of the more dangerous creatures of the abyss a simple sword or pickaxe wont do the trick, you may need special tools or use the environment in a creative way to kill them or just book it all together. Remember you are not some kind of super powerful god, you are just another vulnerable human going down into the abyss.
>The ability to go to the bottom of the abyss on your first go
Player freedom is the most important part of videogames in my opinion, fuck scripted shit and cinematics its forcefully spoonfeeds you the experience when you should take it in all on your own, its an RPG, you make your own story down in the abyss
>Multiplayer
Traversing the abyss would be more fun/easier with friends to watch your back
<Optional MMO
The abyss is shared with other delvers in the anime isnt it? An MMO could work but it still would have to fill the criteria above. Also with that many people traveling the abyss at once it seems that things may be a pain in the ass to manage.
Any other suggestions for this game that will never happen?

I mainly wouldnt want MiA to be an open world game because exploring the abyss in a god damn first person dungeon crawler wouldnt do the world justice at all, also practically no one gives a shit about dungeon crawlers at all.

Made in Abyss isn't a perfect fit for dungeon crawlers as they have an inherent dynamic verticality that dungeon crawlers can't replicate. If you can't understand this you aren't fit for the discussion about a Made in Abyss game. It's the kind of setting that encourages use of gadgets for navigation, platforming when necessary, and having the challenge be how you logically consider moving from area to area without going up too much. It's begging for an open approach game where you get new equipment, use it up, and discard it as you progress in a dangerous world where navigation is just as deadly as the monsters you might find. The meme that Etrian Odyssey is a Made in Abyss game is a shallow one based on some surface level similarities but the moment you get into the mechanics of each, the comparison becomes a failure and anyone sticking by it should be disregarded.

If someone were to make a Youjo Senki game with the simple premise of "Valkyria Chronicles, but you can fly", it'd be a day one purchase for me.
Alternately, something like "Dynasty Warriors, but airborne and with magic guns" would also work. The fundamental gameplay of Dynasty Warriors, where one super-powered PC has to run around doing everything and slaughtering thousands of enemies while your regular troops just kind of stand around and occasionally call for help, seems pretty fitting for Tanya's battlefield. Even better if they added the character mechanic that's in Hyrule Warriors 3DS, where you have multiple playable characters on the map and you can give simple directives to the ones you're not currently playing as ("go here and kill this guy/capture this fort/defend this area"), so the rest of her squadron could be useful.

>inherent dynamic verticality that dungeon crawlers can't replicate
Pray tell how you concluded that there was nothing that could be added to the dungeon crawling formula to replicate this? This isn't even about just replicating EO, it's just looking at a genre that is much wider than what you even think it is. Add terrain locations that allow the player to ascend/descend should they have the right skill, equipment. Add incline planes so that players still are moving up and down without having to change floors entirely, change the combat so it's not just names floating in space. Etc, etc.
Dungeon Crawlers are based around exploration, survival, resource management, intelligent party composition, complex maps choked full with enemies and traps, and going into the unknown and trying to reach the bottom/top of some fixed location. That is Made in Abyss's premise to a T.
Your imagination is pretty shit if you can't even theorycraft a solution.
>but the moment you get into the mechanics of each
Not really and you can feel free to shoot things out if you want to debate this. Outside the obvious setting differences there is a good reason people compare MiA to EO3.
>>14691050
>EO is just a badly designed grindfest of a game
The irony is that at least the first few EO games are more streamlined by Dungeon Crawler conventions. (the later ones double down on some truly abysmal design choices and creature bloat to make them seem harder, I fully abandoned the series after 3 and nuAtlus hasn't given me a reason to come back since)
Games like Soul Hackers and SJ are easier entries in the genre which doesn't make them bad, but it makes them far more approachable to a lot of people. I cut my teeth on stuff like Wizardry and Ultima, I'm used the the roughest the genre can throw at me so games like EO or The Dark Spire were very welcomed modern improvements on older designs.
>I asked for a mainly exploration/adventure type game.
That's what everyone wants for an MiA game. It's the most logical interpretation of the gameplay which is why there are so many images that try and replicate stuff like the UI FROM uses in their souls games. All I'm doing is putting forth another way that could work.
>because exploring the abyss in a god damn first person dungeon crawler wouldnt do the world justice at all,
That's debatable and really, I made a post earlier featuring a quote from the designer of EO. Imagination is far more important than you give things credit for and you would be surprised just how some flavor text, decent backdrops, and a few sprites can really unfold in the mind. It may sound like a cheap alternative, but that's the strength of this type of genre and I would say that it would be a great way to add maximum content without straining the budget to an insane degree.
>The meme that Etrian Odyssey is a Made in Abyss game is a shallow one based on some surface level similarities
Uncle Lovecraft's happy fun-time murder hole has been a meme long before MiA existed, people just noticed how that manga resembled one game in a lot of ways.
The point is, you can make a good Action-adventure Made in abyss game, You can make a good Dungeon Crawler but with some sacrifices in other areas. How niche a genre is shouldn't determine if a genre is worth using to adapt a non-game entity. Dungeon Crawlers are niche because most people want easy games and the genre prides itself on difficulty overall. Once they go casual you get stuff like the Persona series and look how that turned out.

I think you're right and Toei actually does have some kind of official policy of not pandering to the Big Friends too much. Not because it wouldn't be profitable (it would), but they're concerned about them overwhelming the fandom.
Fresh in particular got the producers in big trouble because the adult fans outnumbered the target audience. (The official forums were full of people discussing who was best girl and what doujinshi they'd bought… the producers' desperate damage control of "er, they must all be dads who watch the show with their daughters?" did not convince anyone.) Given that Precure's primary raison d'etre is to sell toys to little girls, they probably don't want to do anything that would attract more adult men than it already does…
But that really doesn't explain the lack of doujin games. Especially given that Japanese fans constantly clamour for a Precure Musou, it's really weird nobody's just gone and made one themselves.

I dunno, I think of dungeon crawling I think of windowed views usually with controls being on screen elements or having it so every button press of a direction moves you one in-game tile in that direction. Games like EO work this way. There's also more freeform ones like ultima underworld or arx fatalis.
How would this exactly better serve the concepts introduced in Made in Abyss? Would you have forking paths where you can move upwards and expose yourself to the curse if it's a shorter route? How would you replicate vomiting, bleeding from the extremities, intense internal pain, loss of senses this way? I can tell you how you could do it in a 3D action game. I'd rather have tangible mechanics than an RPG check list and stats screen when the source material is begging for a mechanically complete experience that doesn't rely on RPG abstraction. What reason do you have with wanting it to be a dungeon crawler, a genre mostly confined to corridors apart from convenience? I think it would be more interesting to describe how you would do it, explain as many mechanics as possible, and I could respond with how I would do it.

>Would you have forking paths where you can move upwards and expose yourself to the curse if it's a shorter route?
Doesn't have to be the shortest path, could just be safer as the low road might lead through a predator's nest. Having cliffs and planes on individual floors as well as being able to scale surfaces to reach higher/lower areas should also be allowed again, provided you have the equipment and skills. It would go towards letting players choose their own path of descent instead of just relying on fixed "stairs" to the next/previous level.
>How would you replicate vomiting, bleeding from the extremities, intense internal pain, loss of senses this way?
Status effects (Blind, confusion, paralyze, debilitation), stat reductions, loss of limbs would mean losing skills associated. In EO body parts can be bound so use a similar idea and restrict the use of parts of the body depending on how severe the symptoms. So if a delver's anatomy can be reduced to things like.

I like dungeon crawlers and have for over a decade? I'd play a real-time MiA, but I'd also play a dungeon crawler based around it as well.

We need something with a complex and intricate alchemy system. Perhaps an RPG where you rise up to the ranks as a state alchemist, obtain a title and get to the Furher position before being killed off in a mysterious coincidence.
Players can choose what elements they want to specialize in, make friends (and foes) for future war scenarios. Work to either push science/alchemy forward no matter what the cost is (humanity, morality etc.). It's also possible for Players to push towards finding the philosophers stone or creating the first successful human transmutation.

OK, I see what you mean in how it would operate. I think it mostly falls in line with how I thought you might want it to to work. My issue isn't that this is a bad thing, but that there's already a few games that would play quite like it. Not exactly of course, but the template of a dungeon crawler isn't exactly unexplored. I feel however the setting of the abyss lends itself wonderfully to a more dynamic game play experience where you have distinct gadgets and mechanics and less RPG abstraction to deal with how the game plays.
>>14691583 (replying to you here because I will answer your question)
I'm thinking about these games in the more analog designs of the game thief the dark project, where you have textures which represent materials which have certain effects on the game world when interacted with and have different ways in which you can interact with them, for example how several wood surfaces can be rope arrow'd.
The way I would approach navigation is pretty much laid out in the show and the manga. Things like designing the floors of the abyss to encourage you to rope down to certain areas, finding anchors, planning your jumps and encouraging either safe or risky play depending on the circumstances. I think this kind of thing would work in a loose adaptation of the original story which allows for more freedom in exploration, or even just a make your own story style hop into the abyss and hop out experience.
The way I would see the curse of the abyss explored is something games have already experimented with. I feel that taking certain medication would reduce nausea and how prone you might be to vomiting, but would ultimately be slightly randomized whether or not you'll be afflicted. Things like headaches could be something which effects the recovery from attacks, swing from attacks, recovery from landing a jump, etc. Tying it in mechanically. Things like intense internal bleeding/pain from the fourth layer would make it extremely difficult to move until recovered or the effect subsided at the cost of your actual vitality ticking away at a dangerous rate, it would make basic falls you'd normally take minimal damage from fatal if not nearly fatal, it would make damage taken from monsters fatal or nearly fatal. Much the same way, loss of limb may not guarantee death (although loss of a leg would likely result in that shortly after) arms would either delegate you to using the left or right arm, weakening attacks, limiting your ability to climb.
The fifth layer with how it removes your ability to feel your sense of self is explored in the manga very clearly, Rikos eyesight fades away, her perception of the world around her becoming fainter, represented by lines until her awareness of her physical self fades away, causing her to harm herself on the environment and herself, which depending on how long you prolong yourself to it could be very easily captured in a game. Nier Automata did a good job of exploring how systems which represent senses getting drained from the player causes things like broken audio where the game is silent or static, where the game world is drained of color, and I imagine the curse on the fifth layer could take it farther, drawing less of the area ahead of you after removing its color, the player character having its limbs fade in and out of a blurry mess until all that's left is a few wavy lines, an obscured health bar, a rising depth meter, and a possible sudden death if appropriate precaution isn't taken.
Tying this whole package together with a few gadgets like ropes, things which might soften falls, allow you to slide, a few weapons you can discover in the environment, fish you can, well, fish, a decent combination-cooking system, clever level design like how it is pointed out that the amigiri always grows towards the center of the abyss and how the center is bound to have the clearest routes to progress, a bit of open approach level design, plenty of places to discover on your own, a decent climbing/mantling system from something like shadow of the colossus, and you could end up with a great and unique experience.
I can't really tl;dr this, but if you are interested in how an action oriented made in abyss game might work, this may be a read which would interest you.

<Optional MMO
I'd day, if anything, do the psuedo-MMO elements that some games have, where exploring the abyss might randomly have players enter your world or you enter theirs. Like Journey or, to a lesser extent, the soulsborne games. For the most part, finding another adventurer should be something that is surprising and kind of rare at best.
Let's say you have joined into a game or managed to descend to a new level. The game just decides to match you wit a handful of players on the same area, but doesn't tell anyone. You could make your way through the layer without seeing any of them, run into them and explore together, or just be ships passing in the night. I think that'd help with the kind of comfy lonliness that is the manga kind of had going for it. Sure Reg and Riko had each other, and eventually Nanachi, but it is usually only ever Reg and company. Where they are currently in the manga could serve as kind of an exception, with more players being allowed to show up there to exchange info and maybe prepare for whatever is beyond.
But all in all a MiA game where you aren't playing as Reg, Riko, or Nanachi should have that same sort of lonliness to it.

>or just book it all together. Remember you are not some kind of super powerful god, you are just another vulnerable human going down into the abyss
This is possibly the most important thing the game should have. Playing a MiA game should be like when you first started out in Subnautica, where fucking everything can kill you, and there isn't a damn thing you can do to them. Everything you learn is just how to identify the threat and then run away the most effectively.
While we're dreaming, why don't we make the finer details of the terrain in the Abyss procedurally generated. Sure, the basic shape as set down by the map doesn't change, but lots of other things do. It's even said in canon that the 4th layer has those big cup-like plants growing very quickly, so the exact topography down there is constantly in flux. Obviously this sort of thing wouldn't be possible in an MMO, but for single-player it would be very interesting if you get a slightly different Abyss every time you play a new character, forcing you to take new paths and maybe encounter new creatures in the various micro-biomes.

I don't think you understand just how broken Reg is to the majority of people he would encounter. Even if a group kidnapped something like Reg, unless they have the resources to actually contain him after capture he'd just muscle his way out and kill them all over again. The biggest balance is that eventually they will lose their charge but their base strength, durability, and rocket limbs are already above a lot of heads.

No reason not to add something new with a new stock of inspiration. Not like everything we see in MiA isn't represented throughout gaming history as well. It's just a new configuration.
>I feel however the setting of the abyss lends itself wonderfully to a more dynamic game play experience where you have distinct gadgets and mechanics and less RPG abstraction to deal with how the game plays.
You have to understand that I agree with you on this and have the entire time. There is no reason that MiA shouldn't have a real time iteration, but I'm more than happy to entertain an alternate design as it's piss easy to think up how to make MiA the "conventional" way.

In a universe that went out of its way to explain its superpower system to fit every battle manga trope into an RPG grid, that's a shame. Even if it was a cash-in brawler could do something with Gon's basic abilities and using Janken like a stance system. It's a piece of shit system and I'll tell you why. You got types with a mini description of what they do. Enhancer makes self stronger, Emissor shoots things… so far so good.
Then you got the 'restriction' which sounds good on paper but the chimaera arc goes out of its way to just have everyone use a completely different power that is absurdly bullshit in X situations
> B-but that's what makes it good! So much diversity! And it fits with the system!
Except it does not. GI arc shows basic nen training and how Gon got his hatsu abilities. He just made aura punches, slow aura shot and aura sword.
Then you've got everyone just taking out their intrincate stands nen abilities, and seemingly using them like complete fucking experts.
It was worse than JoJo and JoJo is shit. You could make a case about some of the beast nen users having pretty hatsu abilities. But every chimaera goon had a pretty, completely colored, textured ability despite the fact they were complete fucking newbies at using nen. The only 'master' they had was Popple, who himself could barely make an aura bow.
Nen was grounded up to York Shin with only Specialists getting crazy JoJo-esque stand moves. After that Nen just turned into stands, something that only works fine in an unfunny trainwreck like JoJo.
As far as 'power for restriction' abilities, I prefered pic related.
And now all JoJo fags will just come and defend their shit series instead of refuting anything I've said about HxH Nen.

>Then you got the 'restriction' which sounds good on paper but the chimaera arc goes out of its way to just have everyone use a completely different power that is absurdly bullshit in X situations
Why is diversity of skillsets and expressions bad? Not to mention that a lot of those abilities are just situational, not necessarily bullshit. And it makes for interesting fights when people aren't just spamming energy blasts at each other and instead have to actually navigate an ability different than their own.
Restrictions were just a tool of the narrative, sometimes they show the mindset of the user (The kid has to electrify himself to charge up his speed move, One guy can only use a specific move on his hated enemy, Netero spent 40 years in the mountains praying and punching to achieve sonic fists, etc). But it's also just a way to add boundaries to what can be done since Nen can be pretty open if you look at it on paper.
>Nen was grounded up to York Shin with only Specialists getting crazy JoJo-esque stand moves
There was a non-specialist guy in york shin that could light things on fire by writing out Haiku's. A conjurer that could summon a vaccum that sucks up anything non living. Another who can copy anything he touches perfectly as well as track the copies. A manipulator that could control people with his cell phone like it was doom, And rubber and Cum magician. If that isn't jojo I don't know what you mean at all then. If you mean punch ghosts, those are still rare even in this series.

Maybe I should rephrase the bit about York Shin. Everyone who was not a beast was grounded. Pedo LSD clown has a really simple ability that could be applied in every different situations. That's the kind of ability I wanted to see in fights, not everyone summoning their stands and then mentally explaining why their superpower was so much better than the rest, racing to trip as many death flags as they can before they get fucked up.
Nen was versatile but I reiterate my point that Chimaera arc trivialised it so much it was insulting. Netero, as you said, spent 40 years punching and meditating to achieve his level of mastery. The Spiders were probably beasts on their own right and spent time honing their own skills. Ants just came into existence, matured in a few weeks and suddenly developped intrincate, deadly abilities when all they should be able to do with their amount of training is the most basic of shit. I insist. They had no master. All they learned about nen came from a zombified Popple. And Popple's skill was pretty low. The thing I really hated was how Chimaeras just instantly dominated all there is to know about Nen.

I hate how people who don't know the series very well take Gon's transformation as evidence that the "restrictions" are broken. Simply put, what he did killed him. Full stop. He would have died if it wasn't for a magical wish-granting power completely outside of human capabilities. Nobody seems to realize that Alluka's power isn't her(?) own; she was infected with some kind of monster from the Dark Continent, a place that's so fucked up that it makes the Chimera Ants look like regular ants. Besides that, what Gon did isn't something just anyone can do. Call it the "power of the protagonist" or whatever, but it's a microcosm of ability and personality that only happened once and never will again. It's not like Super Saiyan that everyone will eventually have access to.
As for the Chimera Ants getting instantly good at nen? Yes, it was a little bit bullshit, but "being born highly capable" was kind of their hat as a species. It was balanced out very well by the fact that most of them were dumb as rocks, and none of them had any practical battle experience ; this is why they lost time and again to human nen users that had less raw power. Even the basically-invincible Meruem lost because he underestimated human technological capability and cruelty.
Really, to go to this side of the fourth wall, I get what Togashi was doing in that arc. We'd been following around a bunch of noobs for a very long time, and besides a few tidbits, never got to see what some of the strongest ones could do. In order to showcase some of those abilities, he needed to pull out a powerful threat out his ass that would be enough to push them to their limits. Thing is, now he's backpedaling on the "power scaling". I doubt anyone is ever going to reach the height of power of Meruem and Netero.
I mean, assuming he isn't going to drop dead before finishing more than a couple dozen more chapters…

> and then mentally explaining why their superpower was so much better than the rest,
But that has always been a part of the story. When the fight introduces a new concept to Nen someone has to explain it. Unless the ability has been previously explained, or is so fundamental that people should automatically understand it by looking at it.
Simple abilities don't need explaining, more complex ones like Missile Man need some narration otherwise but even in the Chimera Ants arc you have plenty of people who just do things and we intuit the effect based on conversation or previous knowledge of how stuff should be working.
I think you're singling out the CA arc without realizing that it doesn't do anything differently with regards to how Nen is shown off.
>Ants just came into existence, matured in a few weeks and suddenly developped intrincate, deadly abilities when all they should be able to do with their amount of training is the most basic of shit. I insist. They had no master.
Here are some points
- Hatsu is a largely intuitive skillset. You can make anything your imagination and potential allows.
- Pokkle being scrub tier doesn't mean that his knowledge was. He understood the basics and techniques and that's all you really need to know.
- Chimera Ants are supposed to be outrageous creatures that assimilate things into them.
- Remember that the ant that captured Pokkle had already awakened his aura since he could see the aura shot Pokkle made. As well as the rabbit that survived getting Gon's punch having found his aura and was spreading baptisms around at the command of Colt. They were figuring out Aura already and Pokkle's knowledge just made things go faster.
- All the Chimera Ants that had strong abilities were Captains or Royal Guards. Everyone else had weak stuff that wasn't worth mentioning or incredibly gimmicky which made sense for a novice to make. The Captains explicitly were the superior stock
>The thing I really hated was how Chimaeras just instantly dominated all there is to know about Nen.
And right here I think you missed what the CA arc was showing. The ants were still young in every respect. They didn't just make the best abilities and decisions. At most turns the story shows how they failed to realize their own weakness against the humans who understand Nen much deeper than they did.
>Leol chose to follow Morel into an underground church and then fill it with water and this screwed him over.
>Cheetu keeps making abilities that work against his own skillset and mentality
>Youpi learns to detonate his rage but doing so siphons off a fuckton of aura each time leaving him in less a position to protect the king
>That one ant that Shalnark fought didn't immediately prick him and wound up getting killed
This keeps happening. Even the ultimate fight where Mereum and the reader realize that humans could always have just nuked the ants and ended the threat go to show that the big picture was that the ants were always just a B rank threat in the eyes of humanity and the only reason they made it this far was because circumstances allowed them too.

That explains the watered down fights in Kirakira where they were actively trying to reduce the brawling with "muh kirakiraru only" and Hugtto where they immediately switch to a 20-kilometer away angle as soon as the punch connects, Mahou was a trainwreck as well and a fuckton of wasted potential. Still, it's too late to change up a franchise known for its shonen-tier fights and toku references, both main pillars of Precure.
Still, on the vidya aspect I'd be at least content if they made at least one RPG GoPri was ideal for a P3-like system, trying to juggle literally living at school and the Zetsuborg fights or even a SRW clone even better if they included KR and Sentai, crossover combination attacks included

>Halfway through the game, Laura's family gets abducted by aliens and it's up to her to chase them down to their home planet and defeat the overlord.
>Being a primitive savage from ye olde Western times, however, she thinks they've been abducted by demons and they've taken her family to Hell so she has to gather holy water, garlic, and wolfsbane before she can ride her broom to their home planet.
>The cruel experiments the aliens have done to her family has left them horribly mutated. Pa is now a hulking monstrosity the size of the Flatiron building, Ma is a teleporting metahuman who is a master of martial arts like Wesker in Resident Evil 5, and Mary is blind.
