Sorta. You compose music in MML, a text based music language, but there are various programs that let you import MIDIs or compose songs in a less autistic fashion. Composing gives you scrolls that you can use to play a tune on an instrument, and with multiple people you can form a jam session to play more complicated tunes.

You could just go the gym, it's really the same thing anyway: You pay a monthly subscription and then go repeat the same task over and over again to level up your stats. The mods are usually high-level players themselves and will give you good tips on how max out your build. Only downside is that you can have only one character, but you can use that same character in any gym instance you want.

The collect file has been irrelevant since the dragon raid because the weapons you get from it are meh at best, and Sega itself has admitted that only two 14 stars drop every month across the whole game. Not just per server, but across all servers. And those trade in 14 stars? All of them have potentials that depend on playing a standard class when hero is the class most people are playing right now, and none of them have slots for the S class traits.

Penalties for death after level ten a -4% exp, which matters a lot in the upper levels. Deaths in PvP are the same unless you have a Clan War engaged with the person's clan who killed you.
Gearing yourself is hard without a support network. Most gear that is top-tier for your level (Equipment grades are divided into level brackets to prevent a level one from equipping end-game gear and steamrolling the first fifty levels) is player-sold, although some can be purchased from NPC shops up to around 40ish. If you die in PvE there is a chance to drop items, although it is much more likely to drop random trash from your inventory than equipped items.

RO is very near and dear to my heart, and was my first real foray into MMOs when iRO launched. Everything from the aesthetic, to the sprites, and of course the music are wonderful. I don't know if it has the 'best' soundtrack though, because it has a lot of bad songs, and a lot of cheese, but it's all so varied and tonally different that it all just works. Sometimes I turn on the music for Al De Baran and listen to it, and think about my guildies from 15 years ago, just all of us hanging out and not having a care in the world. Shit makes me tear up.
WoW on the other hand, that's a game which has always bored me to tears, but I've always appreciated its soundtrack as well. Especially once they upped their budget and went full orchestra with the launch of Burning Crusade, that was pretty spectacular. It's a shame that it's turned so hammy and generic now, that it's not even worth a second though, but that's nu-Blizzard for you I guess.

I liked a lot of things heRo did when I played there, namely banning autopot/AHK. Not allowing multiclienting is hit and miss, but I do think it encouraged a little more actual teamwork instead of just relying on a priest slave. That being said, it's very much an "old boys" club and good fucking luck ever doing anything against the people who have dozens of MVP cards from over a decade of play, including the absurdly overpowered custom cards (one of which I think autocasts level 10 water ball when you take damage). You'll never get a fucking MVP when some faggot walks in with a fully twinked character and slaps his meaty 10 incher in your face, despite the playerbase "ostensibly" asking for people to not be cunts regarding MVP killstealing.

Modern MMOs you aren't allowed to just play a little, coz of daily quests, daily dungeons, daily heroics, daily mythics, weekly raids etc. Once you're done with all the daily shit it's taken all your free time so you don't get to do what you want.

Played it a ton, and I get the itch every few years to go back to it, but it's a game which definitely ran its course. Every MMO suffers from eventual bloat, where over the course of 10+ years so much stuff gets added to it, and it eventually reaches the point where it's too cluttered to go further. KoL reached that point between all the iotms and outdated content - kind of like M:tG, where Jick even added Type 2 and made it mandatory for all new challenge paths. It's also not really an MMORPG, just a constant New Game+ single player game with trading and chat but Hardcore is best, softcore a shit.

I understand that it's supposedly healthier for the game but I get the feeling they'll just be recycling the same mechanics every two years with a different coat of paint (i.e. when the old banishing skill goes out of standard, they'll introduce a new banishing skill in the next iotm)
At least you can still do stupid stuff. I threw a nerf dart at someone who got really mad and went off in chat because they kept getting combat messages telling them they were too weak to pick up the quest items that were supposed to drop.

I'm familiar with the latter (the bridge troll says that when you beat him), but not the former. I was a bit annoyed at that when it showed up, but I haven't seen the devs dwelling on it. They've taken jabs at just about everyone, and I don't recall them backing out on account of someone taking offense. First thing that comes to mind is the furry suit, which still has the loser tattoo and everything.

Gameplay was fun. the pvp is supposed to be team oriented, with people speccing exactly for their role in guild vs guilds. it's not a 1v1 game.
The game was good for its time. Then vanilla WoW came and dominated the market. And with good reason. WoW was great until mid cata then it started going to shit. One can argue WoW was king until Mists of Pandaria, before the game went full casual with WoD.
The only good MMO that feels magical right now is Project Gorgon, due to the very nice community which are all not casuals and the crazy amount of things you can do in the game, along with every single thing you pick up having market value.
Besides Gorgon there really is no magical MMO for the current year.

Was for the most part. Until new classes came that hard countered others by spamming one or three skills. Everyone is forced into getting the 0.001% droprate cards with "+30% damage to demihumans" while you have objective garbage like ratemyserver.net/item_db.php?item_id=4341&small=1&back=1 which means someone with the autism for them shits on the players without them, but hey you can always buy them after 20 minutes of farming those gold bar dropping sandniggers, get them regularly after a weeks worth of normal grinding or one hour of macroing teleport and aoes with @autoloot. Do tell me about the SKILL INTENSIVE 4 button (whoa!) champions that one shot everything (including bosses) but LKs/paladins or the alchemists that trained really hard to use acid demo on whatever is riding a peco peco and happens to be outside pneuma but its ok because half of your skill goes through it and still breaks equipment.
High rate pvp servers are garbage because you have bottom of the barrel going "I need muh autopot please ma'am I can't press buttons as fast as someone that's 20 years old because I'm a 60 year old syrian war veteran :(((((((((" and they rely on whales donating to the top for some headbands with +30 to all stats.
