that's the only bad thing I can really say about it, RayForce is the best thing Taito ever put out (and I happened to be listening to RayCrisis right before I clicked this thread)
though unfortunately it doesn't have some of the changes seen in Storm and Crisis, such as being able to retract your crosshair downwards if you move down when at the bottom of the screen, or fully locking onto a single enemy doing tons more damage like in RayStorm, whereas in Force you have to mash the laser button repeatedly if you want to hit a background boss target

What? No you don't. You just have to fire occasionally when you've locked on to too many things and need to reset your lock stock. Same as in Raystorm and Raycrisis.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough, but mashing the laser button on something like the second boss in RayForce has a higher DPS than releasing a lock-on burst when you're locked on eight times, whereas being fully locked-on onto a single target and then firing your lasers in RayStorm causes an additional blast which causes more damage and also damages nearby targets

You can't kill Rev-6 with a shotgun without wasting 20 or so rounds. You're better off with the MOD-3 or the Type-7. They also wont reach the snipers hardly so you're better off with the penetrator or the ASP. When you have to reload in combat vs replica soldiers or armored soldiers, you're essentially fucked if you don't switch weapons. Unless of course you're playing on easy, which makes you a faggot.

The entire game is a shitty knockoff of AD&D 2E rules - In other words, it is a game which can be best expressed as the absolute worst rule-set of the game to be released to date. The story is overrated, and the writing is sub-par at best. The mechanics do not make the game fun in the least, and the UI is far from being intuitive, taking none of the advantages of the KB or M in a KB+M set-up, and certainly not making them work together for good functionality. None of the joy of a table-top campaign is pressed into the linear trite that makes up these games, and which is almost certainly responsible for the transition to shitty story-games rather than the 'write a story log after the fact' logic that used to be inherent to these sort of games.
CRPGs are shit. Games should be designed like DS or DD - hell, even TES - rather than in this shitty overhead format. The people who made those early games were aiming for abstraction to replicate something they didn't have the tools to otherwise - They weren't aiming for the mechanical bullshit shenanigans of crappy Bioware RPGs. They were aiming for a game where you could go on an actual fantasy adventure.
Fantasy RPGs are shity; fantasy adventure games is what Gygax and Arenson wanted, and what should actually be created.

Prototype 1 is shit. It makes killing guys en masse and going on a rampage a hassle, because Armor is next to useless, RPGs smack you around constantly, and you will need to go on consuming sprees to recover your lost health all the time. Prototype 2 fixed everything 1 did and then took away all the fun shit 1 had in the same move. Fuck Prototype.
