Is it unfucked unity?
f7a35b No.14672608

Open Source Unity that's less bloated, but mostly because it lacks quite a few features and for the most part only supports their own proprietary shit language, with a promise of support for other languages that's been around for a year and still hasn't been implemented.
It might be useful in a few years, but for now, most people making games with it are just either wet for FOSS or are praying that features get implemented before they need them.

Is it actually? I can't find anything about this on their site or wikipedo. Is it a Unity fork or did you just mean it's a game engine that's effectively trying to replace Unity and is also open-source?

It's a separate, unrelated engine.
I've tried a lot of video game engines, from Unity to Stencyl, and frankly, Godot has been the only one to really click with me. At least as far as 2D games are concerned. In others, I would get something half-playable and be like "meh, whatever". Godot actually has me hooked.
a256ff No.14675672
>>14675520
It's not related to or derived from Unity, it's just a FOSS engine that's often compared to Unity, and recommended as an alternative. It's more heavily focused on 2D games too, unlike Unity, and it's only recently that its started being decent for 3D. People say stuff like "X is an open source Y" a lot, when they really just mean it's an open source alternative to it.
