I think I know what he meant by this.
He didn't find the success he was looking for in regular movie making, so he went off to make interactive movies instead.
Now I've never played Indigo Prophecy or Heavy Rain, just saw a few videos and I'm seeing a few similarities. At least between A Way Out and Heavy Rain.
Is there anything to this game? It looked interesting when I first saw it at E3, but now it looks like one giant extended cutscene with very few fail states so that it can fit the vocabulary definition of a videogame.

Of course there's nothing to it. Look at the other games the piece of shit studio behind this has made and tell even a single one of them have any sort of meaningful interaction going on. They're just co-op progress simulators for urbanites to pretend to go outside and walk around for a few hours.

This is the exact mindset of every single "narrative experience" "developer" in the west.
They are frustrated movie directors that even Pedowood, shit as it is, rejected. So they go to games and try to pretend that they are "cool" by hating Pedowood for dismissing them.
Never spend money on anything that they work on.

That's been the case since day 1.
Too many games writers aren't people interested in writing games, but rather wannabe film writers who think that since vidya has moving pictures they can stick their film script there and finally be recognized as the great cinematic minds they truly are.
>Is there anything to this game? It looked interesting when I first saw it at E3, but now it looks like one giant extended cutscene with very few fail states so that it can fit the vocabulary definition of a videogame.
It looks like a giant cutscene because it is one, see above as to why.

I just watched someone upload the cutscenes and dialogue into a movie and put it on youtube, just preferred that than to play it as I have no one to play with consistently. It seems like a great game to play with a buddy, it's a decent prison escape on the run game I'd play, the story is ok as well, got a few kek's from me.

I was ok with Heavy Rain. It had an interesting story, but it wasn't worth the price of a full game ever. It had a nice murder mystery theme and we even got to see events from multiple perspectives.
I liked the older detective the most and if I had to redo it, I would keep the game centered more on the two detectives and leave out the other sections. They could have even added in other quests for the players to do while the main case gets solved. To give it more replayability, the younger detectives cases could run counter the older detective, ect, so that the game changes on which cases you complete. There could be various crime scenes that you could scout as both detectives work their cases. My main issue is that even though the game is story heavy, there's still plenty of ways to add more gameplay and Heavy Rain was a bit too straightforward when it didn't have to be.

It's less that and more like the game industry itself has lower standards for what constitutes decent writing because gaming was just never about story until the past decade so now all shitty hacks want in on the action. Even interactive stories that are shit are going to be transparently shit. But I will admit that video games are immuned to the "So boring its bad" tier of bad writing because the interactivity distracts you and makes it all into "so bad its good" instead

Story in viseo games is like story in porn. It's not important but expected to be there to propel the action for all but the most abstract games.
"Princess Peach has been kidnapped! Go rescue her!" Is enough story for the best-selling franchise of all time, but since hacks don't have any good ideas for games they assume their film-reject writing will make the game good. Sadly enough retards want to feel like big serious adults when playing video games so they buy this schlock.
