I have such a love/hate relationship with these games, the short dev cycle means every single one is shit in at least one aspect, usually several and almost every game has some bizarre balance/difficulty spikes or strange pacing. I'm fine with the time limits, they're necessary in fact, but I only like them in Totori/Ayesha's long form open way, not the truncated dull tasks of Rorona/E&L. I also don't like a lot of the character designs, though I think that's a director/art director problem rather than an artist problem: Looking and Higashi's concepts he did a ton of designs that were far more conservative and consistent with each other and with the Dusk setting, but the director's constantly picks the most ridiculous of his designs and then forces him to iterate on them to such an extent that they look completely out of place in the world they're supposed to inhabit, pics related, Jurie A and B are fantastic, B especially fits into Shallie's theme and two of the three Rosmia designs fit perfectly, but we end up with a Lulu. I also don't like some aspects of the alchemy system in pretty much every game and I feel like the mechanics are designed by throwing shit at a wall and ignoring what sticks. The combat balance is always fucked, 99% of enemies are a complete walkover, then you have 3 mandatory bosses right at the end of the game that would be super bosses in a FF and which the only way you could possibly be prepared for is if you've played other Atelier games and know GUST too well to think they won't pull that shit again. Also story issues, Ayesha was fucking amazing, but the following Dusk games just dodge any kind of narrative progress. Arland wise I honestly found the overarching industrial revolution stuff kinda boring and Meruru was almost depressing, Sterk had a hard life. Despite all this I somehow keep coming back to Atelier; lack of competition I guess, but if they don't bring back the time limit the series is royally screwed.

The way I see it they changed the spelling in order to keep the same name, rather than changing the name in order to keep the same spelling. This, and only this, I approve of.

Especially since there is NO correct spelling in English. There are multiple accepted spellings, but it is only CORRECT when spelled in Japanese characters. This is what localization should do, to me it's identical to fixing grammar instead of machine translating.
There may be other changes to other names, but the only one listed in that graphic is Eryn/Alyn, and that's the only one I am specifically saying is right.

Try "this is what translation should do". Don't buy the localization terminology meme. They're fucking with translations. Localization is more technically involved shit like fixing text wrapping for english characters or having artists or 3D modelers redo Japanese signs in English. Localization teams use the term as a weak excuse for unnecessary alteration and fuckery when translating scripts. The only time you'll regularly see the term "localization" instead of "translation" outside of vidya is with anime because the SJWeebs that have infested it use the same excuse.

The only thing you should be giving NISA a hand for is helping pioneer dual-audio into more of a thing with western vidya releases, since back in the PS2 era, it was only sparingly toyed with by other companies at the time. And even then they'd have cases of cropping into the JP dubs to fit the English ones, like AT2. At least Sega/Red Entertainment can get some credit for forcing NISA to use two DVD-9s for the western PS2 release Sakura Wars 5 instead of one DVD-5, after NISA removed like half AT2's JP audio, in order to avoid that happening with their own game (which also prompted two different English scripts, accuracy varying on which disc's data you're playing off of). In short, I wouldn't say they're especially good at that either, especially as due to name changes, script fuckery, turning single word responses into lengthier ones for the west, etc, including it more highlights the issues with their scripts to anyone that knows moon.
>>14629404
I honestly wish someone would keep the "Fuck NISA" image up to date, as it's missing a couple years worth of stuff. Though, I don't fault people for not wanting to try their games and see what they botched when they could be playing other things.
Actually, I think a number of companies could use similar images/pastas, like 8-4 and NoA.

Tsumino is slow to add shit, but they also function as a workaround to (((Jake)))'s paywall horseshit on his own site in hosting various Fakku rips. Just thought you might like to know that if you haven't noticed already.
>>14634705
It's not a good practice, especially if a company plans to include dual audio for a release (which might be why some companies don't want to, to obscure potential changes). Though, if a game allows for character name customization, it can be rectified to what audio you'd like to play with (but even then for NPCs and the like it's rare; Wild Arms used to do allow that via the Name Tag item).

Yeah, that's a valid point, and they did it before NISA had become a thing too (Atlus also having handled their prior work Rhapsody on the PS1; Phantom Brave being the first NIS title handled by NISA). However, Atlus didn't stick with dual audio for many other games at the time; just that and Odin Sphere to my knowledge. Hence "sparingly toyed with by other companies".

To be honest dual audio was pretty difficult back in the day due to DVD size. Japanese audio files are pretty large and codecs were shit. Japanese dub was the first thing to be trimmed.
Thanks to bluray publishers have 50Gb to work with which is more than enough for most games.

The ones i only played were Atelier Iris 2, Mana Khemia (1) and some other on the DS (i hardly played it since DS emulators were shit at that time) since the games were hard to find where i lived, now i'm waiting for the online game to come out although i doubt anyone can live enough to see it after revising Atelier Iris 2 (because my older brother took the PS2 and all the games then returned the PS2 with… some games) years later i found out that i can petty much break the game the moment i can place XL modifiers on the right items (damage dealing and healing increasing on battle items, mass production cost reduction for the previously mentioned plus the rest of the items and stat boost increase for gear, i only use speed up, power up, magic up and defense up) for a whooping 700 normal attack damage before even reaching midgame when i was just struggling to deal 200 normal attack damage, by the time shit hits the fan, i'm on my trip to 2k damage and Felt with his break attack is the major offender with his triple attack thanks to the FFIX skill learning mechanic, i have no idea how hard globe and the variations hit yet with damage XL

Anyone play Ciel Nosurge in here? I'm playing the offline version and I was wondering, Ion is supposed to sync her daily routine to yours, right? But it seems kinda fucky when HymP gets involved. Also generally it feels like the ingame time doesn't progress linearly, as well as the ingame real-time indicator always being a couple minutes off.
What's up with that? Is this because I'm playing the offline version or am I misunderstanding something?

Anything after Operation Abyss' release that they might have fucked up, so the cutoff was 2015 or so. Of course, barring stuff like Ys VIII and some of the Touhou fangames they've been grabbing I haven't heard much about recent games they've been handling, perhaps since the idea is that no one here should be buying NISA's shit at this point anyhow. Wouldn't surprise me if few people want to subject themselves to delving into potential shitshows NISA charges money for in order to research how bad off they are.
>It's good idea, but it will be a pain to describe all games (((localized))) by them now.
In image form, yeah. HTML/CSS though as a webpage would remove the issue of filesize/dimension limits. But that would require someone care enough, not just for taking the time to set up such a site (and image/video examples of proof would also be useful), but also to pay domain and hosting fees, to get it workable. Probably why images/pastas that get reposted are more popular to make.

Nope. Iris 1 is "Project A6" and MK1 is "A9". If Gust sees them as part of the Atelier series, then they are.
So >>14627236 isn't wrong in calling them Atelier games.
Now, while Ar Tonelico 1 & 2 do use the same Gust PS2 engine as the Atelier titles of the system, that is a separate subseries not part of the "A" brand.
