>An RPG series that started on the Playstation in 1996, the Wild Arms series, unique for its wild west aesthetic combined with steampunk and science fiction and known for deep and engaging stories, was hugely popular throughout the lifetime of the Playstation and Playstation 2, even getting a TV anime spinoff in 1999, but has been in hibernation since the portable spinoff Wild Arms XF was released for the PSP in 2007.

>Million Memories is being overseen by the series’ original designer and writer, Kaneko Akifumi, who writes on the official website that he assures that the game will contain the Wild Arms “taste, mind, and spirit”. The game’s music is also being handled by the series’ original composer, Naruke Michiko. The game will feature characters from previous instalments in the series, and a new story. No further details are as of yet available.

>The game’s theme song, sharing its title of Million Memories, composed by Naruke Michiko and performed by Akatsuki Rin, can be sampled on the website, and will be released on CD on 16th May 2018.

Wild Arms: Million Memories for iOS and Android has been announced for a 2018 release.

It's going to be next gachashit game, isn't it?

Of course it'd be for mobile. Why wouldn't it. The only thing left they have to mobileshit up left from psx is Suikoden, Grandia and The Legend of Dragoon and the cycle of ruining classic psx rpg franchises will be complete.

>Announcement

Old news. They announced that development had started in late 2016, after Sony apparently decided "fuck that" to Media.Vision's idea of a PS4 and/or Vita Wild Arms 6. They way Sony acts, it's like various series of theirs simply aren't worthy of their actual systems anymore. They've done the same thing with Arc the Lad as well. Sad that they see less potential in the existing fans than in trying to cater to an entirely new market (and I'll say Sony is NOT going to have the same brand recognition as, say, Square, when it comes to pushing mobile).

I want to pin some blame on Square and Capcom for starting this trend (Square being extremely big on mobile ports/remakes, and Capcom for suddenly dumping Breath of Fire 6 onto phones), but at least those companies don't have their own systems. I thought Wild Arms would be safe as Sony owns their own lines of systems, but I was a fool.

Surprised Konami hasn't done it with Suikoden myself, but then again they don't seem to want much to do with any of their series other than Metal Gear and making various themed pachislots.

Media.Vision's previous foray into mobile, developing the Chaos Rings games for Square, I've heard weren't bad compared to most mobile games (and Japan saw Vita ports), but yeah, this sucks for prior fans. No one asked for a reboot for phones, not when aside from minigame stuff for old flip phones, the series had remained Sony exclusive. I could at least understand ports of WA1 and 2 first at least to test the waters. But here, they're just dumping development of a new game into mobile which is likely to be unknown amongst mobileshitters (fuck, Sony couldn't even be bothered to try to get a rep in PSA; even Legend of Dragoon at least had one in the apparent works that got scrapped). It's odd, really. Media.Vision had spoken with Sony prior about a sixth main game for the PS4 and/or Vita (Sony owning the series, not Media.Vision), and Sony had come off as receptive for a while. Then they suddenly pulled this shit at the end of 2016 and dump it into the mobileshitheap.

Some anniversary gift that middle finger was. At this point the only good things to come of it were a handful of new official sketches of the old protags, a decent trickle of new fan art, and that upcoming "Score Re;fire" anniversary album that still isn't out yet.
