Quake Champions might be a good game but the marketing and art direction for it is abysmal.

And for some reason that video is unlisted so you can't find it on their youtube page or through a search. It also means the playlist will generally have nothing else Quake related in it.

Only in extreme situations where the video is an hour long or longer hooktube might be acceptable to embed but even then you could always split up the video into multiple parts. But such long videos are usually pretty rare and with the 16 MB filesize limit there's really no excuse to ever embed. yes, quake 2's weapons are overbalanced with no weaknesses or strengths. When the rocket launcher is as effective as the double shotgun and vice versa, and the chain gun is a literal upgrade to the SMG and the blaster fucking exists, yes. It's pure shit. There's 3 auto fire weapons, each replacing the previous, two shotguns, both of which are shit at range unlike in q1 which has both shotguns fulfill unique purposes, the most pathetic sounding grenade launcher that farts grenades a few feet. oh no I'm well aware of Quakes color palette. It's pretty limited, but they tried, lots of dark colors mostly, but there's areas with grass in them, and the later part of episode 4 is distinctly blue in its color scheme. Quake 2 repeats this and makes it worse some how with a lot of browns, oranges and reds and yellows throughout the game. It uses colored lighting for blue a few times but it's against a brown backdrop. Dunno how they managed to take the shortcomings of quakes visuals, add full RGB colored lighting and still make the game even browner. Goes to show hiring modders wasn't the best idea for quake 2. Romero may be a fucking idiot but at least his levels in Quake 1 have some great direction.

The difference between health packs and a powerup is that most often the powerup gets wasted or becomes such a part of the level design it removes unique play. It's amazing how the good parts of this game are simply the parts of Quake haven't ruined yet. The base game is Quake and that alone makes it better than 99% of modern FPS. The problem is all the stupid shit the devs did to change the game. The abilities borderline break the game in so many ways and they are designed so poorly.

What's worse is that the devs are spending all their time making more of these shitty champions and skills instead of adding stuff to the game that actually matters. Right now the game is likely the worst optimized multiplayer game I have ever played. I can play most modern games on high but can barely get this game to run on low without it chugging hard and even then it takes forever to load on my SSD. Instead of fixing these issues the devs only update the store page with new skins and a new champion which does nothing to improve the base game.

The fucking character dialog is horrible with literally 2 crack head characters signature phrase being "i'm going to flip you like a table" or "I'm so mad i'm going to flip a table".

I know this game is going to flop, it has a 50% rating on steam and everyone is complaining about the exact same shit I am complaining about but yet the devs don't fix this shit. Oh and I hope you like deathmatch because besides that and a shitty "capture the orb" game mode which no one plays, that is the only game modes the game has.

I want this game to do well, I want a popular arena shooter to be a thing again but the devs and bethesda are retarded and are blindly chasing the Overwatch crowd without actually stopping to realize you need to make a playable game first and that the Overwatch crowd moved on to other shitty meme genres like PUBG so the only people they have are the core Quake audience and they are pissing them off hard.

There are many times I was dead but didn't realize it yet so I popped my ult and then when I respawned my ult was gone because I used it during that dead but not knowing it time. Because they are basing it off of NuDoom and you have to play with his shitty NuDoom armor unless you get a new skin (which I did as soon as I played him) but in order to get the "classic" skin you have to do it by collecting retarded ass "lore scrolls" which are randomly placed in the maps which is a horrible decisions because it means players will be spending their time looking for skin unlock items instead of actually playing the game properly.

It's not, I've played it. The game itself might have been playable if it weren't for the terrible optimization and forced matchmaking with long queue times. I did some timing: matches last about 15 minutes (longer if you play Sacrifice, which nobody plays) and you spend about 3 minutes inbetween matches waiting for obnoxious menu animations and queuing. So you spend 20% of your time not playing the game just to play the game. Meanwhile you can click about 3 times in Quake 3 Arena and be playing on your favorite dedicated server. There is no reason to play this fucking game. The mechanics could very easily be replicated in Q3A as a mod with some simple scripting, you wouldn't even need custom assets. As a matter of fact when I first played it, I thought, "this just feels like a mod for Quake 3."

The marketing is fucking awful though, I agree. I definitely prefer the camp humor of original Quake and Doom to this over-the-top shit. It's much less funny when a game goes out of its way to be clowny as opposed to being funny as a result of seeming to take itself too seriously. The serious atmosphere creates a stark contrast when funny shit happens in the game, which results in it being funnier.

I've played Amid Evil. It seems to be pretty solid so far. Level design is pretty decent, the enemy variety is also pretty good, although they are delineated by episode (so each group of levels will have a different enemy set). I like the weapons and bringing back the tome of power mechanic from Heretic was a great idea. You can even use the powered-up axe as a propeller underwater.
