Olivier's English voice actor is actually fairly accurate. He also isn't supposed to be effeminate in the western sense, but a typical Japanese bishounen stereotype who says cheesy one-liners. Koyasu Takehito is also great at delivering the Japanese lines, which isn't surprising considering his resume.

All the Japanese voice actors fit their character well with only a few negative outliers (Kloe being one of them). But this isn't surprising considering how large the voice acting industry is. It did surprise me that Trails decided to double down on well-known voice actors considering that they are a fairly small company.

I just completed Trails of cold steel 1. To summarize my thoughts, Trails in the Sky is better.

It was pretty funny when Machias pulled out a shotgun when you had to duel the nobles equipped with swords. My suspension of disbelief didn't wasn't spared when everything turned into gundam slappy fights.

I guess it's time to move on to Cold steel 2 then, after that one I'll probably try and play the Crossbell series.

Depends. Falcom has admitted that they weren't able to follow their own plan. Erebonia should have been 2 games. Games like the TitS 3rd are unlikely to show up again unless they really need an exposition dump. Calvard being a large country likely houses 2 sept-terrion. Which means only 1 remains unknown after that. It will probably be 2 games for the Calvard arc. The final arc concluding the battle for the sept-terrion would probably be 2-3 games.

Zero has a beta translation which is serviceable but has some mistranslations and poor translations here and there. If you rather wait for the corrected version then it will probably take until the end of the year. Unless if they somehow increase the pace. The Ao translation will probably be done well before Zero, so there is no real reason to wait until Zero is "fixed". Cold Steel 1 is self-contained. CS2 has a few moments that make no sense unless you have played Ao and a character that was introduced in Ao. However, none of the major plot points requires knowledge from Ao. There is a "plot twist" in CS2 (although I personally wouldn't call it that) which is spoiled in Ao. So do whatever you want. Just keep in mind that Zero and Ao were released first.

For Zero there exists a PSP patch, a PC patch, and a PC pre-patched torrent. So there are enough options. Ao has only a machine-translated version for PSP and PC, with some missing parts. The fan translation is first for PSP. Do not know if they plan a PC version.

I only played Zero, with the unfinished translation. I thought it was good. Just as good as Sky, but it gets started a bit faster because it feels like a smaller scope, compared. I haven't played Ao yet.

Cold Steel is a bit controversial; a lot of people say it's not as good as the Sky series, and it's horrible. But I personally think it's almost as good and it should be played, because they follow similar formulas to the other games and are just as enjoyable. All of the games have their flaws.

My most disliked part is that they don't show the bloodier side of the war. They SAY the western side is much worse in CS2 but they don't show it.

There's also the fact that some characters get shafted in favour of others, like Emma should be extremely important, but doesn't have a focus on her until CS2, so she remains a complete mystery for CS1 Gaius also, while he does have his own chapter and gets some cool moments, he's mostly passed over because for the most part his personality is already developed, he doesn't have hangups like other characters. But the thing that irks me the most is that Alisa steals some spotlight DURING HIS CHAPTER.

People dying in Trails is uncommon due to how combat is handled. Weapons and over the top attacks/magic does not kill. Only attacks which are meant to kill do actually end up killing. If soldiers surrender they are unlikely to die. Class vii would never kill someone on purpose, while most of the provincial armies wouldn't kill a bunch of children. Celdic is a decent example of this, they were attacked, however, the only casualty was someone getting killed by debris. There are also battles with exploding vehicles where the tank crew never left the vehicles. Whether it was due to tech constraints simple not showing them escape, or if they actually die, we do not know. Vulcan died from an exploding vehicle, so they probably suffered the same fate

I've only finished SC and am the anon that's working on TitS 3 right now (almost done there too) and people not dying in-game is one of the most gratifying and unique things about this game (people dying in flashbacks and memories is different, though). I'm honestly glad they almost never do it, the fact that they can tell such a story while avoiding a practically ubiquitous storytelling device is quite impressive. Trails being grounded until the pace is established for more fantastical things to happen is one of the best things about it, and people dying should be less common. I'm not saying it feels more "realistic" but it feels more in-line with people who aren't typical JRPG characters whose first reaction is to kill whoever or whatever is opposing them do which is frankly refreshing

The way link experience was handled was pretty meh. Having to choose which link abilities you have to unlock is pretty annoying.
