I never said it didn't have cute girls anon. Its that it turned to an anime style rather than a european-focused style, and while there isn't anything inherently wrong with that, the direction of the franchise also changed with it to pander to weebs. Map design was thrown out the window. The systems they used for the weapon triangle were flat out garbage. The writing was literal trash-tier, same for the supports.
Usually the only people who had decent character designs in nu-FE were the sluts and everyone's favorite waifus (Cordelia, Severa, Tharja, Lucina) or the important main characters (the royal characters in Fates). More importantly it clearly created a shipping cancer. There were always supports in FE, but the fact that they were limited and you couldn't make anyone marry your mary sue self-insert was a good thing overall.

Awakening and Fates did go full otaku pandering but the downfall of Fire Emblem has nothing to do with that. Shipping may have been around in Fire Emblem since around the beginning, but there were innovations in the series that coincided with Awakening that turned it categorically in a more otaku-pandering direction. By contrast, Robin ends up hijacking the plot by having the whole thing actually revolve around him/her and is a colossal Mary Sue, beloved by everyone.
Another change created by Awakening is the amount of support conversations per character is now unlimited. It used to be limited at five conversations per character, allowing you to maximize your relationship with only one character, thus imparting life-changing significance to the endings of the characters. In fact, Robin is unique among the characters in Fire Emblem Awakening because he/she is the only one who can befriend everyone and romance anyone of the opposite sex (save for their child Morgan). Because the game has an open world structure, you can maximize the relationship of any two characters by the start of the chapter following the second character joining. The only character development or progression that could be made and conveyed by support conversations has to do with events that occur prior to their entry as playable characters. By contrast, the Chapter-oriented closeness way of building supports allows things up to two chapters after the characters joining to be acknowledged (and more chapters if the chapters are turn-limited, like survive chapters) within support conversations. The Path of Radiance model where characters gain support points simply by deploying in the same chapters (when combined with linearity in plot) allows events even later on to be incorporated into support conversations. My point, as belabored as it is right now, is that because of the support system and the chapter progression systems present in Awakening, only surface level hijinks can be involved in any of the conversations, which skews towards kiddy-pool shallow anime writing. In fact, it is strange to see characters who may be married and aware of kids they have with each other acting totally normal in story events because the game isn't written nearly robustly enough to account for these things which would have been treated as serious and consequential by any prior Fire Emblem.
And that's not even getting into aesthetic changes by which nu-FE is deviating from the prior standards, like replacing fairly realistically structured (albeit not realistically colored) cavalier armor with toilet bowls.

Older stuff that Xseed worked on, such as Wild Arms 5, was handled really well, and that was an anniversary game full of references to the old games that they did not translate.
Akiba's Trip was solid overall as well, and they didn't succumb to the SJW crybabies over the Pitter feed where someone is called a trap.
But then, we had the Akiba's Beat fiasco with the KKK Witches sign. There's also the very WTF crappy dialog in the Trails series. (Fuddleducks, etc).
They've fallen but it could be much worse. Just look at NISA and Ys VIII. Still sucks, though.
