Really the writing probably wouldn't have been so bad if they didn't feel the need to have all nine people in your party each respond to every single thing I think I personally would have just capped the party at four and just made everybody else temporary party members or something
and the points of no return seems like it could have been a easy fix
But now we are never going to find out whats going on with those black holes, we are never going to see those light and dark dijin hinted at the end, we are never going to find out if piers is banging mia's daughter, never going to find out what the deal is with alex and the nation of assholes on their floating Continent

NoA's translation is actually a major part of why the dialog is so bloated. In an attempt to break up the distinct flow of Japanese conversion without changing the dialog boxes they changed lines that were originally just a single word and a syllable indicating questioning into an entire fucking paragraph.
There's also censorship, mistranslations and other weird issues with the translation beyond that.

Oh, the cover art makes them look like children. I'm not really sure I give a shit since I've played FFVII and IX back when I was 7 (you know, those really gay overbudgeted JRPGs that looked like movies), back when I was actually a kid, and thought Golden Sun was a junky portable launch JRPG for kids riding with their parents in the car when I tried it in an emulator when I was 10, I think I stopped at the generic asian town since I got bored as fuck after the tree dungeon.

I remember being about 14 when the first game came out, and desperately wanting to find 34 of Mia having played it about 5 or so months after it was first released. It was so tough to find anything back then, and there wasn't a whole lot of it to begin with. The part I remember however, is that in my search I came across a series of threads on GameFAQS. This series of threads was dedicated to what I can only describe as ONE boy writing up what he considered to be erotic fanfics of the game, involving bizarre descriptions of situations with shared rooms at the inn.
What made this stand out in particular was that not only were these stories written by some guy who according to himself was 12 years old, but because GameFAQS were, and are, strict about there not being smut on their boards, this guy would write them in a way that never quite reached pornographic levels, but they were clearly hinted at. Constantly. In ways I can only assume must have seemed subtle to a 12 year old, because to anyone older that shit was right in your god damn face. These threads from what I remember traced back about 4 months, and every single story was written by this same 12 year old. I think his username was Toad King or something like that. Every now and then when I think about these games I remember this. The finding of these threads were my very first encounter with autism. I like to think that he's still on that board, writing his erotic fanfics, that never quite reach pornographic content because he's trying to still avoid the GameFAQS censor.
