Not exactly connected to this but there are parts in some stories where not having them would have been for the better. Not a VN, but an iconic example is the rape scene from Sword Art Online's Fairy Arc. The show was bad enough but trying to make a lewd scene out of something that was supposed to come off as disgusting. It gave some mixed signals. Story wise, the audience should have been disgusted. But with the way it was executed, it obviously came off as titillating. Many agree it shouldn't have been done like that or not been there at all. It was completely unnecessary.

As far as NTR is concerned, MusuMaker must be one of the worst offenders. I don't know if any other VN is as deliberately spiteful to the reader.
If and only if you're on this girl Mikan's route meaning she's basically your waifu for that play through, she gets "adopted". MC gets worried and starts wandering around town hopelessly looking for her. Meanwhile she's getting used and abused by dozens and dozens of men, and there is nothing you can do to prevent it. MC realizes he was betrayed and gets angry because he believed she was actually being sent to a loving home. He goes rogue rescues the girl and it turns into a bloody feud with the yakuza.
Basically the game decides to have this one girl taken away from you and brutally raped precisely because you were closest to her, otherwise, nothing happens to her. And it comes completely out of nowhere.

The issue isn't that having sex scenes are bad in and of itself it's that certain sex scene are incredibly forced and obviously tacked on. Further more in the case of Fate/Stay Night specifically, the Non-H remake was voiced acted so even if you patch in the H related content, those scenes will be jarringly silent compared to the rest of the Visual Novel from base sound design stand point now that's it's already been remade, with better visuals, music and other additional scenes. Going even further, UBW Rin sex scene is probably the most prominent case of tacking on an H-Scene with how it's used to give Shirou both a power up and somehow be the fulfillment of Shirou's and Rin's relationship up to that point at the very last moment before the very last fight in the route, and it's the only cutscene compared to Saber's 2 and Sakura's 4 6 if we include Masturbation and Shinji attempted rape, where the Non-H version plays it much straighter to Rin's uptight attitude about their relationship and how the actual power up works. There are plenty of H-scenes that, conversely, are done well. I don't care if you hate that Sakura is used goods, her being a cock-thirsty slut after being treated as one for years with a serious case of worm pussy makes sense, even more so for the Shinji attempted rape scene. When the Non-H version came out, they kept Sakura the same backstory wise, included incestual rape, but remove any of her fucking scenes and replaced with blood drinking, and removed the Shinji rape scene entirely with just him "threatening to tell sempai about what she's been through" with a blatant cowardly reduction of outright stating that rape was occurring even though it very obviously was. I wonder how this will turn out. It's just a simple romance story centered around cute girls so it doesn't need to have great writing. As long as the art is decent, music is good, and the humor is great then I may grab it myself and share it here. I have a feeling it's going to be more than 15 dollars upon release so I might pledge. Besides that, what are you guys currently reading? This artbook got me back on ToHeart2 after taking a break from it. Man these things take ages to burn through, but at least I'm enjoying myself. Yuma is still best girl so far but I can't think of a character I dislike so far. Everyone is pretty pleasant.

I've continued playing through Kanon, I took a break for a long time to do some other shit and decided to get back around to playing it. I'm doing Shiori's route and just got past the kiss scene, I feel as though Naoki Hisaya had a big on making Kanon different from the rest of the KEY games, it just seems more impactful. It's a shame he left the company after Kanon though, he was a real good writer. Also Akiko is best milf, not even a car crash was able to take her down.

I'm playing Utawarerumono MoD after the thread about it the other week. It's pretty great, though I'm not a fan of how the translation was punched up, nor how easy it is even on hard. Circumstances have forced me away from it so I'm not nearly as far as I should be. I just met Atui and got the shota. Can't wait to permabench both of those nerds.
