I'm not sure it qualifies as a cashgrab since the battle-royale mode is F2P. It was definitely quick to abandon development on its PVE mode to jump on the BR bandwagon though.
As for the artstyle, I like it. Realism is a cancer that needs to die.
In any case, it's a better game than all of its competitors that I am aware of. PUBG is shit, H1Z1 is worse, but Fortnite comes out on top only because it isn't a shitty bug-ridden mess. It's the only one of the three I can play without huge latency and performance issues (on a GTX970). The other ones run like shit even on lowest settings. With that said, the Battle Royale genre is shit and I don't understand why normies are so obsessed with it. I'd rather play a normal shooter.

fortnite has lots of merit as a br game. They've worked some glaring flaws into it though, like the shotguns, the grid you build on, too much wood, and the weapon accuracy.

I think the biggest issue with Hunt is that being a new player puts you at a HUGE disadvantage, because you're just restricted from having the same weapons, tools and traits as experienced players. What would be nice is if they made it so you could find mid-tier weapons (powerful rifles, pump-action shotguns) in the map itself to level the playing field between a level 100 player and a brand new player. Many of my solo matches were fucking ruined because me and my random buddy got put against xXDARKHUNTERXx420 and his buddy deth_bringa who were both using fully automatic rifles that killed in 1-2 shots compared to my lever action that killed in 3-5 body shots, even more since they also had healing packs. However, it could be argued that the fact that every single gun is a one-shot headshot no matter the range negates this level advantage.
Ultimately, you're right: Hunt's solution to forcing players together is far more elegant, and the "difficulty" (read: clunkiness) of combat means that gunfights tend to last a lot longer, especially long range ones, with all sides having kind of terrifying Wild West shoot outs with each other until someone catches a bullet in the head or gets jumped by a zombie.

i don't see it at as seorus problem with current balance at all.
First of grind is small (comparing to other lootbox monstrosities out there), within month everyone and their mothers will have maxed gear.
Second, you can grind avoiding players, kill mobs, collect clues, bail out. You get solid exp and gold reward fro this. "Why i, noob and weak, should be careful and scared of every sound?" See, this is good for game tha tis about hunting and been hunted, to perceive real danger in such game. I am sick and tired of teh games that hold hand of the noobs. Anyway grind to go past noob level is small, though it is may be subject to change.
Problem with current gear mechanics is that gear is balanced via gear cost and this is frustrating for everyone, players killed by autorifle in the bolt guns only game are frustrated, but these OP guns cost an arm and leg of grind and dying and losing them is extreamly frustrating too. So when noob reaches this gun he finds that that is not as fun as he envisioned. Game play element should not upset everyone.
Other gameplay problems i see are.
1. Low density of action. I think number of players, mobs and overall actions per minute should be bumped up.
2. Gameplay mechanics of tracking banish and players carrying bounty promotes camping style of play. Camping should never been promoted, it is toxic. It easier sight should be nerfed or players killing boss and carrying bounty should receive in match buffs (HP bonus? upgraded sight? some control over zombies and mobs?) so rushing boss can be actually viable strategy and not an invitation to be ambushed at extraction point by dynamite-throwing-from-the-bush-legit-walhack-campers

If you look at the last update it was 10 fucking months ago and all of the comments from the last update are fans wondering what's happened. Games journalists telling people what taste to have is pretty normal and works on anyone who doesn't actually like games. I've met people who legitimately think DMC: DMC was a good game and that people were genuinely butthurt about Dante's hair, and it was all because a marketer told him how to think.
Another relevant story, when I ask people why they like Shadow of War, they all give the same answer and use the same words. "I really like how they expanded the Nemesis system and the combat makes you feel like an actual LOTR character". It's like they just repeat what the marketing tells then to think.

FN:BR is not a bad game but because how popular it is people hate it. As far as the game itself, it plays well and the building makes it standout from PUBG.
