He ran to the outlook, full of arrows rending and damaging his flesh, probably exhausted. I didn't see any fracturing in the stone at the time so that's a toss up, but he does look like the sandy hot wind has slightly eroded his outermost layer.
If he had a soft used on him he would probably die either of shock, or the trauma sustained before he was petrified and compounded with any micro fractures and erosion to his stone body.

Hard as a rock, dependable, becoming greater not by being born to it, but by overcoming things no smaller man could conceive. A man of iron will. Her island in the storm. Her dependable rock.
But then he softens just a little, and the stone facade breaks and his arm moves, sliding around her waist, cupping her hip, one finger slipping beneath the waistband of her skirt.
She gasps, breath holding, heart pounding, head screaming at his touch as all sensible thought leaves her body, burned away in a fire she always felt but fought to contain.
Until now.
And then his head rests against hers, his cheek on the top of her head. And she feels him breathe her in, inhaling her, taking her in to his body, and sighing at her scent. And his arm squeezes around her, moving down slightly, bravely, to feel the curve of her buttock, as he turns his face and kisses the top of his head, his lips brushing her dark hair, so carefully parted in the middle. She freezes. Heart-stopping. She's rigid, unable to move, body screaming and burning up inside. She's trembling with the effort but she can't move, and when she does it's a shaky, jittering motion as her body pulls her in ten different directions at once. To lunge at him, to straddle him, to kiss him, to pull him towards her, to pull him on top of her, to feel his weight on her, pressing in to her, as the heart between her legs, unquenched by the growing desire that spreads and gushes, readying herself for him, feeling him press himself in to that growing aching emptiness inside her, until the emptiness is no big she can't bear it, and she's falling in to it, she's falling and she doesn't think she'll ever be able to stand again.

And then his hand is a fist in her hair at the back ofher head, and he has a hold of her, and he pulls her to him without asking, just taking.
And he kisses her, and she's falling even faster, and she reaches out and puts her arms around his shoulders to hold on for her life because this is more alive than she's ever felt.
And then he lays her down in the soft grass, dewy and wet in the dusk air, and it doesn't matter what happens tomorrow, because to her it feels like the entire universe is exploding within her right now, and all she can do is moan in to his mouth as he hands move upon her body.

It's just a standard turn based RPG. You have a party of characters and each one can use their own unique weapons and special abilities. In order to use magic, you must find or purchase Materia, which are crystallized orbs of the planet's primary source of energy. You stick the Materia into your weapon slots or if you're a kinky bitch you string them together and make some anal beads for Yuffie and they allow you to use various spells. Since your equipment has a limited number of Materia slots, you have to arm your entire party with various pieces in order to have a well rounded team that will cover all your needs.
You fight a number of enemies that will basically put your team configuration to the test. It's pretty standard shit. There is the Gold Saucer, where there are mini games you can play. Also, the story is bat shit insane.

I genuinely liked the open world aspect and thought the characters had decent personalities despite the odd fashion design. I know "open world" gets a bad rap but apart of why I like JRPG's even back on the NES was the exploration. IIn fact one of the reasons I hated FF10 was because of how they got rid of the overworld maps. I personally believe if the combat was actually sophisticated enough to be challenging it would have been a good game. But instead, the combat was completely garage. So I've been watching footage of the bootleg FF7 HD mod and I have to wonder why Square doesn't just give the creator a little bit of dosh and release it on PSN and steam as a legit HD version of FF7. Plate armor is shaped to absorb impact from blows, that doesn't detract from your point but plate is not designed specifically to deflect blows since a dead on hit from a warhammer, axe, or mace will go right through so you want the plate armor to be able to protect and absorb as much of that hit as possible. Especially the head cause everyone aims for the head.
