Anyone remember the glory days of internet flash games? Between 2000-2001, Newgrounds hosted some of the edgiest content my fifth grade self had seen at that time. I spent hours playing all those Assassin games and other flash games sponsored by Newgrounds itself and those created by its popularity contributors. They were so raw, but it was fun picking out where the sound effects and music were borrowed from. Most of them have now aged horribly, but they still hold some nostalgicvalue.

Do any of you remember the early days of flash games?

This one's a favorite of 2000-era Newgrounds.

Holy shit, those were awesome when they first came out. I played some of the old Assassin games and most of them look terrible, but others still make me chuckle.

I miss Habbo Hotel.

>Falling Furni

>scamming people

>dating and flirting at the disco

>joining Mafia/Cops/Army/Pokemon/SW role-play groups

>Mazes

>Kick Wars

>Well designed rooms, like cafés or airport simulator

>Hobbas with their extra hairstyles and clothes treated like royalty

>That sound when you get a message in PDA

So much memories. Club Penguin was shit and nobody played that. Habbo was the real deal.

There was another flash thread here >>14288615

Flash was probably what started my desire to make video games, but it's amazing how bad flash is these days. Flash had no problem running on a pentium 4 with integrated graphics back in the day, but now flash runs like thick shit through a fine mesh, 50% cpu usage to run simple looped animations is some real bullshit. Even some games I've tried to run recently are practically in slow motion because of how much they lag, can't understand how it got so bad.

I guess I got a few memories to share.

Does anyone remember NetBabyWorld? Some Shockwave games, a series of Boulderdash clones, some bowling thing, some boatriding thing, some Parappa-esque rhythm game.

On a separate note, there was Nekogames or something along those lines. Simple Flash or Shockwave games in different genres, generally puzzle- or arcade-oriented, but some of them were pretty intricate, like those single-screen RPGs. I really liked those. All of them had the same low-contrast monochromatic thing going on.

Didn't Coca-Cola have its own clone of Habbo Hotel at some point? I seem to remember something like that existing.

I remember cheesing for money with the hand grenade. Plenty of cash when he picks one up, and as long as you keep spamming them, he'll keep prioritizing the freshest one while the ones closest to blowing up will get despawned without you having to mouse over them.

The only shockwave games I can remember were Merlin's Quest, Some side-scrolling beat-em up game where you collect Vinyl records and scratch them all to complete the level, not sure if this one was shockwave or java, but Flowering Nose.

Yes and all of my cringey friends during that time obsessed over how funny it was and it was all garbage.
