Having pirated regular Sun and Ultra Sun, Ultra is a straight upgrade in almost every way, but if you played the regular game it's probably the worst "third version" since Platinum (although it's not really Platinum's fault DP were the worst Pokemon games until XY came out). The battles are tougher (Ultra Necrozma will fuck your shit up), Hau is a much more complete character, there's a lot of care put into fleshing out the world (more than usual for the 3DS era at least), and the extras they added are all pretty good (aside from maybe the Photo Club). The only downgrades are Rotomdex being more annoying, the Ultra Recon Squad being REALLY tacked on, and Lille's character not really having the same developments. Cutscenes are still bad and the game still throws healing items at you like candy, so no change there. All in all, Ultra Sun/Moon are definitely worth a pirate, more so than any other 3DS era game. Hopefully by Gen 9 Game Freak will be used to 3D and we'll reach another peak like HGSS to B2W2.

Here's the rubdown on Lusamine. It's implied in the Ultra games that she's driven more by despair at losing her husband than jellyfish poison (dunno if that's accurate for the regular ones). In addition, instead of getting obsessed over space jellyfish, she's obsesses with being the one to save the world from Necrozma. She's also significantly more retarded because Game Freak decided to use practically all the same cutscenes but change the text. Basically, she uses Nebby to go to Necrozma, which she didn't even need to do because the Ultra Recon Squad straight up has Solgaleo and Lunala you can ride. They even say how retarded she is, in universe. So instead of being a jellyfish queen she gets her ass kicked by regular Necrozma. You can also fight her as a title defense match if that's your thing, I think the first of every month. There's one last slightly depressing scene with her if you beat Gladion in a title defense match, but I won't entirely spoil that one.

I couldn't get through Sun. I was very excited leading up to the release, but the way they handled the story and progression through the game killed all of my interest in it. They filled it with as many useless throwaway characters as they could, and the amount of content in the game seems to dwindle the further you get. The final island doesn't even have any actual captains. I know all of the pokemon games are series of hallways leading to cutscenes, but they took absolutely zero effort in trying to hide it. All of the areas had incredibly simple layouts with screen transitions every ten seconds, and so many of the new features and such were incredibly superficial.

Morimoto has a really good attitude when it comes to making Pokemon games, Unno only did B2W2 so that means he needs to direct more games, Ohmori is Masuda 2 pretty much. If you look at Game Freak's development cycles, it's clear they are really in to releasing one game every year, and there's a gap at a really important year. It's all garbage. My friend had given me a 2ds so I could play ORAS with him and it was surprisingly fun (the used copy i had was 100% completed with nearly a full storage with all legendaries and even a few shinies). I didn't even have to play the campaign over again and got to just enjoy the endgame PvP. I was fooled and ended up buying Sun and my friend a copy of moon thinking the series had changed for the better. I hadn't even touched a Pokemon game since gen 3 LAUNCHED before my friend gave me the 2ds.
Sun is one of the worst rpgs I've ever played, let alone the worst Pokemon game. Everything that made the first three gens shine had been ripped from the game.

I'd been looking forward to BW, but it ended up turning me off of playing Pokemon for ages by turning out to be bland and boring as fuck (though the head villain was actually kinda cool), then BW2 came along and I was surprised that it actually had some content in it and went back to enjoying myself for a while, plus I liked the whole urban feel. I've found the Gen 6 and 7 games to be nothing but a basket of disappointment that's made me not wanna play regularly and take a hiatus again. Everything is handed to you now and everything has a forced story with some plot you get railroaded into with a zillion cutscenes and slow battles. Sun and Moon were shitty half-baked sacks of crap. I'm of the opinion that those two games were actually rushed to meet a deadline rather than actually be a proper pokemon offering. Given how little there was to do throughout the game, the complete lack of any consequential/sensical storyline, and how quickly they managed to shit out USUM, I honestly believe we weren't supposed to get Sun and Moon in that condition. If USUM came out and were just the original offering, I feel like everybody would have a higher opinion of Gen 7. USUM still has a ton of flaws based onwhat I garnered watching someone else play through but if it was the first part of the series, everybody would have the expansion/extension game to look forward to.

My biggest fear is honestly that it goes almost completely online. It's a normal-ish pokemon game, but they add more global link, more festival plaza style stuff, more blink-and-you-miss-it events in-game. I liked it when pokemon was a single player game that was accentuated by the additional stuff with friends, not having large chunk of it with a mass of intercontinental faggots.

To be frank, it's not like Pokemon was ever particularly open world. Gen 1 was pretty much the peak with getting to choose which way you got to Fuscia. If you wanted to talk about optional content, then yeah, Gen 1 is pretty good for that. Gen 5 is also surprisingly good for that, but basically every single one is locked behind surf.

So wrong about everything it hurts. Gen 3 felt a lot more open than Gen 1 because in Gen 3 you can navigate the majority of the overworld without ANY load-points. Gen 1 had every major route behind a gate because of technical limitations

No, the difficult scaling would be fine for where the story expects you to go. Dragon's Dogma does this fine where the main campaign will take you from place to place in a certain order, but you always have the opportunity to fuck off and go fight retardedly strong enemies without any warnings. Look at the map I posted and tell me that again. The only places tucked away you can't reach without encountering a gate/checkpoint of some sort is Rustboro City and the Battle Frontier. Every other city and town can be traveled to freely. You can go from Littleroot to Mossdeep City without a single interruption. There's also shortcuts all over the place.

Dream World was just a shitty online flash game. It shut down before WFC did. You're missing berry growth and hidden abilities, but BW2 allowed for groves to find wild pokemon with said abilities and made berries easier to obtain than its prequel.
