>Set in the Rust Belt area around detroit and the surrounding states
>The old generation of boomers were part of a golden era of industry and thriving capitalism where they churned out coal, machinery, cars and clothes at an insane rate. Every table had food on it and things were fine.
>Over time everything is outsourced overseas and the only things moving in are walmart and starbucks.
>Older generation laments how much better it was in the past
>Younger generation grows bitter over their shit situation and the older people they feel only complain but dont do anything about it
>Older generation is conservative leaning, seeing that the younger generation is more liberal or even socialist leaning. They only want to escape and get out of these dying towns and the trend continues.
>IRL multiple terms by democrats promising change does nothing good then Trump says hes bringing back industry, meanwhile Hillary wants to close the coal mines which are the last things keeping these places alive.
>Older and new young generation vote trump "because voting democrat didnt make any change in our part of america at all" and the liberal former teens are out of touch with their elders AND youngers and have no place in this because they dont believe what they lost and only want to get out and contribute to the decline.
>This is the actual state of the Rust Belt as it becomes near 3rd world standards.
>In game Possum Springs is a coal mine town gone bust.
>Old people know how good it used to be and do dead end jobs while the rotting shells of old factories dot the horizon, nature taking them back as the workers move into jobs in the new megastore franchises that cannot pay enough to make rent. The only old stores still around are the pawn shops because for them business is great.
>Young people are all angry at the last generation, perceiving them for letting them down. Some up and leave, those that dont settle and just fill the places their dying parents had in the system.
>Elders find lovecraftian thing in the mines that demand a sacrifice to keep things going. A clear metaphor for mining industry requiring new blood that isn't interested and the deaths that can happen in that line of work.
>Young 20 somethings see them as monsters but have no solutions, giving up on all their ideals and acting as posers in external communities. Trying to fit in with douchebags talking about anti facism and pro socialism while living off the older generations dwindling funds to play a part in this masquerade where only the one unbalanced sociopathic goat girl genuinely believes this stuff.
>Story ends where nothing good happens. The older generation still look to the past with hopes that the good times will come again. The younger generation are apathetic and talk a lot but do very little and come off as hopeful losers who know they will die in this town as well and are already telling the children how much better things were when they were kids not knowing they will probably be the ones doing the sacrificing in future years and the older generation in the mines outright say as much to them.
So its a game that tries to paint a social commentary on a very isolated and decrepid portion of the United States with clear allusions to the previous election campaign climate but on reflection its not a straight A or B situation. It paints the older generation as desperate and washed up but then thats exactly what the younger generation is but they hope things will improve for different reasons.
I've seen a lot of anons talk about this game as a right vs left commentary but considering the setting it feels far more like a commentary on action vs inaction.
