Just beat it myself. I honestly really enjoyed it. Gameplay is good. Nothing groundbreaking but not bad by any stretch. I played on the "Harder" difficulty and some bosses gave me a run for my money. Kind of disappointed they didn't mess with the standard formula too much. You get some of your tools are interesting but the game doesn't take full advantage of them. Story takes a while to get going but once it did I was pretty invested. I was expecting the game to play it pretty safe but it went into places I wasn't expecting. I enjoy stories that tackle faith and religion though so your mileage may vary. I'd say it's worth a purchase if it ever goes on sale but many anons would probably argue against that given the developer. If all you're worried about is lefty politics being injected into the game definitely pirate the game. There isn't any save for a few one off jokes.

I can forgive a naive developer who is just going along with the status quo to get along in the industry. At the end of the day its all depends on how heavy handed that libshit is and how much it interferes with the game play. You're right about that, Inafune was/is a piece of trash. But if you remember the kick starter and pretty much everything connected to the development process of that game was filled with the stench of 8-4. they make friends with developers so they can exert (((influence))) over different projects. which is funny because most of their big clients tell them to shut up, you can hear how butt-hurt they are over it. As someone who is only moderately skilled at videogames, this is okay challenge. There's some puzzles involving moving things along tracks with your wrench/nuts, or a bomb, or by charging yourself with energy and charging tesla coils. They're diverting but don't destroy the flow except in a few cases so far. Most of the puzzles are super solvable by working backwards from where you need to get and how to get there knowing the various rules of movement you learn in the first ten minutes of play. Tutorials are entirely ignorable and are pictographs without text, so Konjack seems to assume you're not fucking retarded.
Bosses are the core point aside from the platforming (which is okay, but mostly about getting from point a to b and navigating the puzzles properly). Most of them involve using tools you just got, but the one I most recently encountered is entirely focused around the parry mechanic and is rather difficult if you haven't got the timing down properly. Konjack's focus has always been bosses (see his other games) and it shows here, the high points of the game are the bosses. Each one is mostly unique in terms of mechanics and shit. The game doesn't repeat content very often, really, especially when it comes to combat, unless you willingly backtrack for entirely optional parts.
There's a super-minor "RPG" mechanic where you craft 'tweaks' which you attach to one of three slots. An example of tweaks: One is a single-shot damage ignore. One makes your wrench spin (basically a parry and another mechanic) last longer. One makes you drown slower. And so on - minor bennies. These are constructed from parts that you get from exploring and solving optional puzzles, and they break as you take damage. You repair them automatically as you break shit, solve shit, or kill shit.
>The narrative
The evil communist dystopian theocracy is doing shady shit, their agents are evil motherfuckers with shady powers, and the ancestor-worshipping nomads are mounting a shit-ass resistance that has almost no chance to succeed. A little attention is paid to the internal shit between the faith-based part of the evil government and the rest of it, the interaction between the two societies, etc. Robin (the main character) is mostly mute as a result of trauma from the same incident that killed her father, etc, pretty standard shit. The only scene I've encountered with politics (Chrome talking to a 'scholar') seemed to be an honest to god joke.
