Your MC doesn't actually die in the end so that sad scene of your utterly heartbroken partner was all for nothing!" shit on you? Really fucking hate that. It kills the emotion of the ending scenes knowing that the game lets you conveniently exist as a living time paradox just cuz lmao endgame stuff. Besides, killing off the MC for good would be a deliciously cruel and heartwrenching way of segueing into the "alternate party leader" mechanic.

Evolving in PMD means jack shit, you don't get any Stat Bonuses. So, unless you get a new type or something like that is pretty unnecessary. Some even prefer to not evolve since Evos don't have all of the cute animations

They're the first gen of PMD games I guess is what you could call it. I believe one is a gba game and the other one is just a ds port. Generally sky is #1 and the most recommended of them all. Pretty sure red/blue only have gen 1-3 pkmn as well while sky/time/darkness have 4 as well.

If there is I can't think of it. The biggest advantage in Explorers is that you can select partners directly from a list while Rescue Team makes you go to each specific friend area to add them to your party. (Rescue Team also has a personal base instead of a guild room for the MC which makes it feel more personal. I forget if you can decorate it or not. I missed it at first but got used to the guild after a while.)

I never really played them for the difficulty as they are quite easy unless you use self imposed handicaps/rules. I've played a ton of shiren on the nds and its a great game, EO 1-3 is great too but I've never tried the 3ds ones. If someone wants retarded difficulty there's also the dark spire.

I picked Turtwig as my MC for PSMD and Riolu as my partner since Riolu is a friend's favorite pokémon. I was not prepared for the anal ravaging of the Sheer Mountain Range with all those flying types, not to mention the fighting types I had no super effective moves for either. I was kind of hoping I could recruit someone to cover that weakness, but you know, story.
I really enjoyed the endgame though. Tree of Life: Roots is an excellent finale track, though I thought it would be better suited for the final stretch of the final dungeon. Final boss music is also good, and I like that they made the boss more interesting than just spam your best link combo since it changes your position and creates hazard tiles throughout the fight.
All in all the entire first half is a patronizing drag and it throws you into terrible situations, but the second half just about makes up for it.

At that point you might be better off using 3dsiso as your site of choice, and if you can't find a .3DS instead of a .CIA, there are programs out there to convert between them.
