It's pretty great but I sometimes wish the decision-making was a little deeper (should I play without Peach or not, should I use the Jinx Belt or the Quartz Charm, etc.).

Is Jinx Belt even that good? I always did something like Lazy Shell or Safety Badge if you wanted to cheese. Otherwise just use whatever.

Quartz Charm is useless, because it makes Star Egg/Rock Candy stronger, but you get it only after beating the game's bonus boss. Not to mention having a large supply of candy is unreliable, and Star Egg is a gimmick/crutch anyways.

I don't know if they were perfect but they had a lot going for them.

In CT's case it had an endgame optional sidequest for your characters to get their ultimate weapons and multiple ways to go about defeating the final boss whether its through the queen, fighting lavos the day he emerges or just choosing to fight him by using the epoch.

Terranigma had a world that slowly evolved as you passed the dungeons in the game and events in the story took place. You go from a time where you can talk to animals and plants to being unable to, and then realise that the barren world you once knew became green and lush. It was nice to see the world changing around you, and it also has that quest line that has you trading items with people around the world that also slightly improves and changes the world as well.

I recently played SMRPG and it was pretty mediocre. I know it's great to overrate old games but honestly, it's pretty meh.

And most of the shit you listed, OP, can be applied to a lot of other RPGs.
