2 Does some stupid stuff like capping training levels so the monster has to actually go out and fight to get any higher iirc, the base gameplay is pretty much the same though, 1 just plays a lot better imo

I actually liked that they capped the training room level to 4. You'll have to throw them into the combat pit to train them up to level 8 and after that it's all combat experience.

Not really fond of every dungeon being full of level 10 creatures after doing fuck all and waiting for a while.

You know, it does kind of make sense i guess. Still though, i guess i just loved those levels with the gem seam right there and unleashing a mob of max level shit on the enemies, except that one with the level 10 wizard patrolling with a mob of dwarves digging, fuck that

Both 1 and 2 are worth playing.

Just play them in release order and you'll see where DK2 fails as a sequel yourself.

DK1 has a source port if you want to play at higher resolution and actual 3D without warping when controlling monsters.

DK2 isn't bad at all
