What does /v/ think of the recent information and performance on the upcoming GPD Win 2? Or of the leaked $600 campaign? Have you ever heard of the original GPD Win or does anyone have one of these? Just sort of curious as I don't see mention of it besides the stray emulator/ Bluetooth controller thread. Any Vita owners besides myself interested in it beyond portable emulation wherever you go? Honestly, I think the idea of a powerful enough windows portable that can run nearly all the generations and paired with any easier to run older PC games sounds fucking excellent. A strong enough handheld to make Dark Souls, DMC3/4 portable also sounds great. It's perfect for backlogs and ditching the fucking modern gaming industry for good. Plus you could always dump Windows and slap Linux on.

I thought "Emulating Gamecube and Playstation 2 on a portable would be great" but this shit is 700 dollars and the battery life is probably laughable.

Dark Souls doesn't run the best, I agree but DaS II delivers a much stronger performance. Also Dragon's Dogma at 720 Low. I think a major thing people haven't considered with this is you could always have a decent PC and use Steam in home streaming like the resourceful goy. Then performance wouldn't even matter and you'd still keep the portability.

Colour me cautiously optimistic, but that glossy screen seems more like a problem than anything else. I don't think I'll be playing it in direct sunlight or anything but the lights on the bus or the sun pouring through the window can completely ruin a 2 hour trip.

It has many of the same hardware problems as any gayman laptop.

Gaming Laptop

- high temps / poor cooling (or alternatively "decent" cooling with the fans maxed out at >40 decibels)

- lackluster performance compared to a desktop solution

- disappointing battery life

- heavy

+ portable

GPD Win 2

- high temps / poor cooling

- - very lackluster performance compared to a desktop solution

- disappointing battery life

+ lightweight

++ very portable

PROTIP: Unless you're spending hours on transport and absolutely need a small device, just build a mini ITX machine to take to your destination. It's heavier, not exactly usable in transit, but you can cram ridiculous performance and cooling into it plus the hardware is cheaper than gaymen laptop hardware. It you want to be able to play anything when you get to where you are going min ITX is objectively the only solution.
