The autofire seems plenty good for coverage. Semiauto is 38 damage per hit, that's at least as fast as the splattershot pro, and has more range. The only downside I really see is the sub is splashwall, which is underwhelming, and stingray, which is highly situational. I like both splattershot and pro, and this was a great compromise to use both, but that sub and special don't do it for me.

Personally, when I played the first one, it was on release. The world was so vibrant, so pure, the shitposting was both ridiculous and hilarious. The best part was seeing it placed all over the levels in banners, advertisements, graffiti, and just about anything else you could think of. When I played it, I had a smile on my face the whole time and it was the first time in a while I played a game for 12 hours straight and had to tell myself to stop.

Having played against two of these in splat zones, I can say it's really useful. With another teammate with you, you can make it so the mines will keep most of the area covered. It's really about how you use the mines than the damage they do. The squeezer really disappointed me. Its concept is good, but unless it gets an improved varient I feel most other weapons will do the job better

Callie and Marie. I played it for hours on end, no game hooked me like in recent years. The core game is still the same in Spla2n but I don't like some of the changes, I especially don't like the power ups. And the maps took a huge nose dive there isn't a single Spla2n map that rivals the quality of the first game. The Spla2n world is lacking any charm, it's become so edgy, the soundtrack the clothing and the hair-dos Marina and Pearl have grown on me but they will never replace Callie and Marie. I understand they wanted to sell the switch but they should have waited another 2 years to release Spla2n

The specials suck now they're just shit all of them are shit. The maps aren't as interesting in layout, the splatfest maps are the only ones that try to be interesting or try to do something cool. Umbrella is cool. Ink mines are shittier somehow, curlers are gayer seekers and are ultimately just splatbombs nerfed to shit in useability. There's no where that I can get a curler to go that I can't throw a bomb but there's plenty of places I can throw a bomb that a curler won't go. The trail of ink, while nice, doesn't compensate for this. Disruptors and point sensors getting a lasting AoE is kind of cool but I don't have nearly as much fun as just being a faggot bastard incessantly pelting the enemy team with them. In the first game I could go into a match with the goal of maining a subweapon and be successful doing so (TW).
The actual net connection somehow is worse than the first game but I willingly put up with it in the first game because of how mind numbingly fun it was. It was so well polished, or something, I don't know I'm not a dev or designer. I don't know what gave the first one so much magic.
The squid sisters fucking rule I still honestly can't comprehend how the fuck someone could prefer Callie and when I realized there's a lot of people that do that actually surprised me, I think there's something called "quality character design" that helps explain that phenomenon. I fought FOR MARIE. Period. Snails be damned even though I did really want the snails I don't even play splatfest in this game. Shit I don't even fucking play any of the Vs. modes I am meaning to try out the new ranked mode it does look fun. I only play Salmon Run because Salmon Run is the only thing they got right, and they really got it right. I have very little critique for it (let me cancel a special stinger if I'm a moron and use it at the wrong time please).
The music was most all great in the first game, and the Squid Sisters were clearly the best, deserving the mantle they were put upon, but there was only like one band I wasn't a fan of. I do like most of the music in Spla2n also but the new idols are shit and while the goblin has grown on me I don't actually care about her, I just enjoy splatfest banter so I talk shit. It seems like there was a higher attention to detail, a higher level of care for the first game. Maybe I looked at it through rose tinted glasses, I was in fact sold during the first E3 mention of it, it blew me away and I had to have it, and I was extremely excited to get it day one. This does lend itself to a heavy bias.
Maybe the novelty is gone. I don't look at each level like a puzzle to be figured out, trying to outplay my enemies through not aim nor weapon but by how I approach any given situation. I don't have the drive to gitgud at every single weapon. I don't hope and pray that my team will use my beakons that I try to always keep up. I mean where the fuck is the echolocator? Wheres my shield that I maxed out special duration for so I could try and regularly fail to give my entire team a shield for the last ten seconds? Why am I never pissed off that some faggot fuck popped a kraken when I'd really have liked him not to? Shit, wheres the super jumping krakens?? Wheres that shithead zipperhead shooting zookas through walls?

But this new game does have it's merits. Spyke got a real job and his replacement doesn't require a thumb drive to give me what I want on all the clothes I'll never use. That football game looks good I can't comment on it any further though. Salmon Run is seriously fun, emphasizing what may be my very favorite aspect of the first game, team work with random strangers. 2 hour map rotations seems more sensible. Spawn camping seems to have gone the way of the dodo? That's really good I hated watching my team spawncamp while just waiting on the center, then when one guy gets through I don't even want to splat him. I sure as shit see him and the entire map is my color. That was a serious negative to the first game but one that I dealt with and I'd gladly go back to if it meant recreating what might very well be the lightning in a bottle that was splat1.
I need to stop this post.
So in short there's a lot that was better in the first game, some more subjective some more objective. I don't think I covered it all, and I did parrot what other anons have already said. But I will say this in finality -
Splatoon was one of the very best games I've ever played in my life. It was one of the absolute most fun games I've ever laid eyes on. It was one of the most creative and interesting games I've ever played, and I mean that for the gameplay itself. But that's not to say the first game didn't have faults of its own. I guess that's mostly all novelty, so maybe that's why I find this new one to suffer so heavily. I don't know. What I do know is that this post is a jumbled mess and Marie is Queen. Long live the Queen.

I get that 2 lacks the initial wow factor, that the first one has, but everything's far more balanced, and as a result I've found that previously useless stuff, is now worthwhile. Likewise, making a comeback, and general gameplay isn't nearly as frustrating as in 1.
Ninja Squid was basically useless with echolocator, and point sensors were also devalued because of it.
Bubbler gave you full on invincibility with no downsides, kraken could swim through enemy ink uninhibited, and how could you seriously forget about Inkzooka on Arowana's bottleneck?
Not to mention the smaller changes now, too. Shit like the rollers now having vertical swings, and being able to store your charger charge.
And in general Ink just moves faster in this game, too, if I recall correctly. If that's the case then every single weapon was buffed, and gameplay's been sped up a bit, as result.
Your biggest complaint about it seems to be that it lacks the novelty of the first, but that's basically impossible to replicate, as even the best sequel out there will still be derivative of the first.
I can concede the maps aren't as memorable as the first one, but a large part of that is they lack the memorable frustrating aspects the first one had. Arowana and Moray being probably the biggest offenders.

1. Don't be afraid to try out new weapons. Now is the time to experiment, while you're still being matched with people who are as shitty as you. Once you hit level 10 the matches become a lot more punishing.
2. Learn to aim. If you're not using the tilt controls, for the love of God enable them. Mess with your tilt and right-stick sensitivity until you feel comfortable, I find the default settings a little too slow. Once you learn to aim getting squished by rollers becomes much less of a problem.
3. ALWAYS be either shooting something or swimming. Never run around in kid form. In Turf Wars, turf is all that matters, so as long as you're covering turf you're helping. Even a noob like you can help win a match if you spray enough.
4. Learn that being able to see someone and being able to shoot them are two different things. Weapons have drastically different ranges. Get used to the effective range of your weapons.
5. Paint yourself escape routes. Learn that turf is power. Enemies can't run from you if the area around them is covered in your ink. Likewise, you can't get cornered and, for example, blown up by a grenade as long as you have a safe way to swim away.
I'd say that I'd post more but I'll probably get bored and leave. Unless more Marinaposting happens.

Yeah I think that's probably my biggest issue so I tried to stress it.
Arowanas bottleneck wasn't a problem for me but I was willing to switch weapons for it, I loved arowana you could really dominate with the HYDRA. But to your point specifically, you can always get behind something for the short while that an inkzooka is out, use a splash wall, answer with a number of other specials, or focus on a different task other than the very small piece of real estate that was the center of that map for a few seconds.
And while I see your complaints that the specials were too strong I don't think that making them more or less useless was the correct response. They were specials, it made sense to me for them to be OP, your weapon had a special too it's not like you were put out in the cold with a specialless weapon.
Point sensors weren't made less valuable because echolocator existed that's ridiculous I simply don't know how you could come to that conclusion after extensively playing the game. They have the exact same value as they would without echo. What has changed in value though is cold blooded, which now only answers for two niche subs.
Ninja squid is just as useless as it's ever been, and I can not stress this enough - that is completely useless.
I never understood the complaints about kraken and bubbler, as if you couldn't choose to play weapons that used them yourself, as if you didn't know what they did and that you needed to be prepared to react, as if simply shooting them wasn't an effective answer.
Honestly think about the fact that you've claimed that 4 special weapons are too strong out of 7, which I could add the post match ink coverage, zone denial, or tower clearing ability from the inkstrike, and the ability to completely shut off an area of the map or any progression with the killer wail, if not push bubblers or a kraken off the map completely or just splat someone/everyone. I don't see where complaints about special weapons could come from based on them being too strong considering most all of them were very powerful and could be used to change the tides of a match, and that they all had answers if you wanted to apply yourself and answer them, and then that every weapon had a variant with a different special. The bomb rush was pretty decently honest frankly so I won't include it.
Vertical swing on rollers is great, good call that totally slipped my mind. Same with holding a charge while swimming, I don't know how they managed to buff the chargers like that and not end up with nothing but charger mains but here we are so they got that right for sure.

I'm just saying there's anomalous matches so you may want more than just one to come to any definitive conclusions, instead of looking at that one and expecting the rest to go that well.
But yeah the nzap is a good all rounder, and it doesn't burn through all of your ink. Mobility can be a huge plus gut a gun like that. If you have more slots you don't know what to do with try ink resistance, that should help your mobility even more in sticky situations.

well action vs comedy isn't really that bad; action films are more often made to be shlocky and grab the viewer's attention whereas comedy films are usually made to get easy laughs with a series of jokes. On the more well thought out end of the spectrum, action films are very dramatic and give you a sense of the world while comedy focuses more on a few characters dealing with non-beneficial situations. Just from tone alone, action films are made for a serious tone and comedy films are made for a lax and humorous tone.

Think of the octobrush as a more consistent roller that lets you throw away any future your right index finger has for a solid balance of mobility and ambush potential.
You should focus on patrolling areas your team has inked and look to expand it while the enemy isn't around, then pop up and jump around like a diseased kangaroo splatting anything that gets into range, because of how the brush works you can also work your way up to various perches on the map and jump down while swing, which anyone would be hard-pressed to escape and even if they do, unlike with the roller you can just hold down ZR and try to weave out of the way or you can dodge through with you ink, because the octobrush cover more solid area in about the same amount of time. In Spla2n Ninja Squid isn't bad because while your ink area doesn't go far forward there is a lot, and you can play mind games with your opponent about whether you've swam left or right towards them.
But be careful not to press too hard! If someone gets away from you just back up and take more turf for your team, and find a new place to hide out, changing your hideout every so often if there's low traffic.
Also keep in mind that the brush will let you escape enemy fire more easily because you can swipe at your feet much more quickly than you can slam a roller.

Think more in terms of hunting than fighting. Start thinking in terms of patrolling and defending, start hiding out in place a bit more often and take some joy every time you drop down on someone and the jerk everywhere and you then understand that they never expected you.
Or, more easily, wait a little bit before you leap out and take in the scene. Can you sneak up to them in the ink or drop from above? Are you just barely in range and they have a charger you're confident weaving against? Are there three of them at the perfect cover distance that will just get you a trade? TURF WAR IS A FUCKING SHIT MODE
It's weird, the most popular and main Splatoon mode, is actually the worse. Not as bad as Rainmaker, but pretty bad. But why do I say this? Well just look for yourself:
>There is no MMR at all. In Ranked and League you get paired with players of similar skill. In Turf War, you get paired with whoever in the fucking world. Doesn't matter rank, location, or skill, the matchmaker just draws from a hat and that's who you're paired with. I kid ye not, I was paired with a shitload of level 30s back when I played the game for the first time.
>It is the only casual mode. Want to play another modes? Gotta be in ranked. If you never liked ranked, it's the only casual mode you can play.
>The whole mode is about spraying the floor. As a result, people forget about getting kills, or focus on just kills. There's no strategy at all, just hope to god you apray more ink then the enemy team.
>Nintendo is completely retarded and can't even bother to make a fucking minimap, so we can see what needs to be sprayed. Splatoon 1's Turf War was nowhere near this bad for you had the map on the Wii U gamepad. Splatoon 2 doesn't have that luxury, so whenever you want to see the map you're completely blind.

>Add a proper MMR system. I'm tired of being paired with guys 30 levels higher then me with overpowered gear while I'm still working on getting the chunks I need.

>Add Ranked modes to Splatfests. I don't wanna play Turf, and many others feel the same. I can guarantee if they did this, a lot of the rigged Turf War matches you all experienced this Splatfest would happen a lot less.

First of all, please consider killing yourself/checking these digits.
Secondly, having a clear cut objective leads to smarter gameplay then in Turf War.
>Splat Zones: Cover the marked zone/s. Enemy captured it? Recon the zone and figure out how to attack it. Captured it? Figure out which ways they could come in and protect the zone.
>Tower Control: No one is on the tower? Get on it. Someone on the tower? Stay outside the tower and cover it.
>Rainmaker: Carry it to the goal. Protect the SOB with the Rainmaker with your life.
>Clam Blitz: Get clams, make a football, throw it to the goal, chuck clams, win.
All four of these gamemodes have different ways to play and clear cut goals that are marked at all times. You don't have to spray the whole battlefield like an autist, but if you do, the game rewards you buy giving you more flanking routes, giving you Special charge, and slowing the enemy advance to the objective. What strategy is there in Turf War?
<Run around. Shoot the ground. Kill enemies to slow them down. Hope to god you sprayed more then them.
There's no strategy. It's just run around and hope to god your teammates get their thumb out of their ass and actually start going to areas with a lot of ink. Instead of teamfights and clever maneuvering like in Ranked and League, it's just a free for all since all your teammates just go off to do their own thing, shooting whatever the fuck they want.
Ranked actually requires thought put in and rewards skill. Turf War is just an unfun clusterfuck.

I just got to level 11. The grind from 10 to 11 was much shorter than from 9 to 10. Here's why, no turf war. Back at level 9, I'd play a few matches, win one, lose one, and ultimately just get annoyed that at least one person would either become a statue, or would leave, so we'd be stuck with three people on our team. Alternatively, in the three minutes of the match, one or two players would play like complete retards, only treading on area we've already covered, I assume they were "protecting" it, just to be killed and have all of the land taken from them. I honestly thought about quitting the game entirely, except for the occasional Salmon Run or single player. Then I hit level 10, and what a change that was.
At rank C-, playing Rainmaker, the matches usually went pretty short. Rush the Rainmaker, either grab it, or protect the person who has it, and run your way to the end. Simple. Yet I was actually having fun. I liked how a match could either be a 30 or so second skirmish, or a drawn out stress inducing match. I was still playing with retards, but it didn't feel as painful half of the time. I'm now excited to play the other modes, instead of dreading Turf War, wondering if I'll ever boot the game again. I just ranked up to B- for that mode, but I haven't played a match at that rank yet, and I believe the modes just changed a few minutes ago. What should I expect at higher ranks, and how should I make sure I git gud?

The system is built in such a way that everyone will eventually get to S+, and actual matchmaking is done with a hidden MMR because Nintendo is not willing to tell people they're bad. Turf War is a casual shithole, but hey if that's your cup of tea, go for it.
The Single Player and Salmon Run are also great. But it's fucking retarded you can only play Salmon Run during set times.
Problem is, it doesn't add enough from Splatoon 1. But if this is your first time playing Splatoon, then Splatoon 2 is worth it.

Centralized objectives funnel players into a smaller area, meaning fights usually involve multiple people from each team. Turf War spreads people out all over the map, which means you are far more likely to end up in 1v1 with an enemy player. 1v1s can be decided by all kinds of things that aren't particularly competitive (a good Splattershot Pro player will probably never lose to a Splattershot Jr. player of similar skill in 1v1, for instance–they're both good and useful weapons that can contribute in team situations, but in 1v1 the Pro hard counters the Jr). Low TTK also leads to 1v1s sometimes being decided in a way that's not particularly skill-dependent–when you can kill someone in 1/6 of a second, the one who gets the first shot off is likely to win, and there's not much you can do to recover or escape if someone gets the drop on you (dualies are the one exception to this). This is why there's not a 1v1 ranked duel mode in this game.

Why? Cause my team is the one that squeezes out that win by 1-2%. I'm also that asshole who sneaks past you to focus on painting and doesn't go for combat except when needed

Turf War attracts a lot of casuals, and they tend to match you with people your approximate ability. I stopped playing for two months, except for Splatfests, and I had regressed terribly, only to find myself among higher level players, who pounded my ass. Salmon Run is a cooperative mode, which is casual friendly, or at least attracts casuals anyway. Ranked matches are okay for casual trash as well, as they match you with people of similar skill level, until you get to higher ranks, where it's good players mixed with absolutely shit players. I'd probably stay away from league matches, as they're match you up with the full spectrum of players by skill level.

Try the demo for Rayman Legends if you want some comfy platforming, or Snake Pass for comfy physics puzzles (and weird controls).
If the port of Hyrule Warriors was out, I'd recommend it for maximum comfy (once you beat the main story); just stay the fuck away from Fire Emblem Warriors, it's nowhere near as good.
