3, 4, and 5 are all pretty similar with minor updates going forward. Get whichever one you can find cheapest/easist.

The first two can be obtuse if you're not used to city management games, but they're still a good place to start. If you're more interested in a game with a story mode, start with 3.

The share thread and IGG both have GOG downloads. There's absolutely no reason to buy the games outside of supporting Haemimont.
