The setting, music and story of Vice City was amazing, but the map was the worst of the series.

The story takes a massive nosedive once you leave Los Santos to have all sorts of whacky side adventures in the forest and desert that has nothing to do with the main plot.

It goes from 50% Crips vs Bloods simulator to 40% filler and then goes back to 10% C&B at the end to finish the story.

I think the issue with that is SA felt structured more as a sandbox, where story seemed secondary to unlock more fun things to do.

Whereas Vice City got the balance between the two just right and likely why the setting feels so great while fun to play.

As for GTAIII, it felt incomplete, more like a testing ground for the developers to figure out how to refine their next game. Still fun to play it when it first came out though.

I assume a lot of games use it because it's a really uncommon and noticeable pattern, so it helps identify when a texture is missing. Unless you're working at Rockstar, that is.

Vice City is the best. San Andreas was bloated in story and collectables. Bigger map for no real reason instead of just being bigger than previous game. Also clunky added gameplay elements that weren't meaningful.

Probably a combination of both; in the time the song licenses expired, the fee to renew them went way up. Vice City for sure. San Andreas is great, but it's full of unnecessary gimmicks, and the story is rather incoherent as a whole. I love the dark and moody atmosphere of III, but it's not as well-crafted as the cocaine cowboys aesthetic. The only fault I see in VC is its map layout. It's just not good, the only really cool portions being Ocean Beach and southern half of Washington Beach.

San Andreas has the best gameplay, the biggest world, and the most to do and fuck around with. Though the setting isn't as compelling as Vice City's, which manages to be infinitely more stylish.

III is carried almost entirely by the fact that it was the first game of it's kind, there's really not any reason to play it over VC or SA save for novelty.

The PS2 version of the games are superior. The Xbox version has the best cars, with glossy/reflective look on them.

The PC ports of the 3D trilogy are lazily done and missed out on a lot of features. Vanilla PC is the worst, but if your game is modded with all the essential fixes, PS2 graphics and widescreen fix then PC version is best.

Not being able to bail out of your vehicle during police chases and the police being more aggressive and bloodthirsty in general is what makes 3 the ultimate cake in the series. There is also a lot more focus in 3. It's about stealing cars and going on police chases. Little else. It deeps like a purer experience in key opinion. Plus the aforementioned inability to tuck and roll from your moving car made playing the cake with your friends more bearable. It was much harder to survive. Liberty City is also the best map in the series.

I just finished playing VC for the first time, completing a playthrough of each of those three games. I had the most fun with SA, to be honest. III felt pretty bare. Since VC was the last one I played, it felt awkward, not here nor there.

i love how you can't shake cops off of your car door, if they get you at all you're busted. the only game in the series where cops can actually bust you if you're not just fucking around, you have to be very careful and very fast to keep them off of your door if they're nearby on foot.

i hope vi places emphasis on getting arrested as opposed to getting shot, i never shoot the police during a chase unless i'm already at a high wanted level and cops are stopping me from escaping or about to kill me. it should also focus on making gunplay actually good which can be done easily with the euphoria engine, gta v had shit gunplay compared to iv because they reduced the damage for guns while making them more accurate which is retarded, there's also way too many guns which is entirely pointless, and holding all guns at once is stupid and also serves no purpose outside of specialized shit like rpg/grenade launcher which should be a tactical choice as opposed to carrying all three in your pocket. enemies heavily reacted to damage in iv and the guns sounded powerful, and it was awesome for it, it's the only gta game with acceptable gunplay imo, even if it was far too easy like every other gta game outside of complete bullshit missions which have nothing to do with gunplay.
