It does interesting things. You get two characters and you can switch between them at will. Some bosses are better fought by one or the other. The boss I'm at now can charm Jonathan, the vampire hunter. But Charlotte, the witch, only does minor damage to the boss. She's not very good for general use. Her attacks are slow with a short range (because her weapons are books) and her spells have to charge to have any decent range. Jonathan has access to a lot of different weapons and has a subweapon for every situation. Charlotte is handy for hitting enemies that Jonathan can't safely reach, though. Sometimes you can just barely nick their hitbox with one of her spells.
