I love games with extensive use of vertical level design. What other games are there with this philosophy? I'm asking specifically for non-platformer games because it's harder to find verticality outside of that genre

shit game tbh. it only has the barebones elements to be considered a stealth game and nothing more. furthermore you have to play each level twice, the second time just with more guards. also the ending is absolutely atrocious.

I'd say Thief but it's really a mixed bag. You either have crazy open and multi leveled areas (Bonehoard, mage towers) or really crammed close quarters (police station, thieves guild).

If you can stand sjw shit then Dishonered. It's basically a more vertical modern deus ex game. The levels always have an underground or above route to sneak. The first level in dishonored 2 is great. Styx 1 was awful, 2 is an improvement but still the levels feel synthetic and boxlike only leading in 1 direction with no sneaky detours in an alley or down some mineshaft.

Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2 comes to mind. The majority of the campaign, from Nar Shadaa to Ruusan, is very, very vertical.

I don't even like styx, but dishonored's extremely broken blink ability and level design made the game basically unplayable for me

The singleplayer isn't bad at all. Won't give you the same rush as multiplayer and you can tell the grappling hook has more uses elsewhere but still it's worth at least a play.
