>DmC's combat was they only thing decent about the game.
Fuck off they're so fucking boring
>Need to deal with the heavenly sword light / Heavy stance shit with it now being Angel / Demon weapons
>You can genuinely just chain enemy hope enemies too high to fight back and juggle them to death without even knowing anything technical
Even Nero had to slightly repossession himself for enemy hopping off chains and picking and choosing who he got dragged to and who he dragged wasn't pick and choose, you see that enemy and know the context of using bringer on him
>Axe even post damage nerf still fucks up almost everything in the game, launching back harder to hit enemies and mooks
>the entire command list is the same across the whole selection, no Nightmade Beta, Nevan, Spiral, style moves, Lucifer, Pandora's box which spice up the combat variety, every weapons has almost shot for shot the same command list and then the same application
Like you'll never use the Scythe in DmC once you have the Beyblades and you'll never use the Hulk Hands because the fuck off axe, because Beyblades and Fuck off Axe are straight up objectively better at performing the same roles they were made for.
But in DMC 3 each weapon is made around a vastly different element and method of use, fighting Angi and Rudra at the statue right before the fight it's seen productive to swap out a weapon for Cerberus, it's a low damage weapon yes but is made to have long lasting active frames which are perfect for parrying this bosses attack till he gets stunned, then on top Agni is fire element so attacking him with Cerberus also offers an additional elemental damage multiplier.
Also on later playthroughs Angi's fire on his weapon is actually very effective on the cerberous boss both elementally and way it works being a wide range slash weapon hitting all 3 heads at once and gaining additional elemental weakness damage and this damage allows you to more quickly stun Cerberous. (This isn't even something you can do early game, the boss was designed with the Angi and Rudra weakness in mind for additional playthroughs and the later boss rush)
Fighting Virgil? Need to capitalise on the punishes on him in the boss fight? Once you get in with your weapon of choice perhaps swap to beowolf, a short range short active weapon compared to Rebelion but when hitting a stunned enemy hands you the most damage out
Or you could just want something that Suits a simple style of play that works with every style? Just pick Rebellion.
None of that is in DmC, Scythe vs Beyblades is Active, range and speed which Beyblades hands down wins so you always use beyblades
Fuck off Axe vs Hulk hands is Damage, AoE, and availability of use, since Hulk hands need to charge and Axe's strongest attack which is better then the entire Hulk Hands moveset can be set up by Rebellion performing the first 2 hits quickly Fuck off Axe wins, it even has a projectile to double out it in AoE and Availability.
DMC 4 dropped Elements from the mix but doubled down on play style differences between everything, rebellion is now a more utility combo central weapon, Gilgamesh is Beowolf but with a vast amount more put into rewarding for slower attacks, then you have Lucifer which is a DMC 3's Artemis if made into a fast stab weapon while keeping the keep away set up blasts that the gun had.
Then there's the massive offset between DmC and 3 and 4 in total movepool, even Nero who was considered at first just a neutered Dante at first sight has a larger move pool then DmC's Dante and I'd almost bet every other additional character in DMC4: SE does too as well.
If you think DmC has good combat you think copying and Pasting mechanics then removing half and breaking the others is good design.
