Majima is a victim of major character creep or Flanderization, to us the tv trope term.
In one and two he seemed like an actual cool character, especially two. In three we started to see the wacky Majima in that he rescues Kiryu by driving a truck into a crowd of mooks. Four reeled in back in by introducing Saejima and giving his character some depth and development. This continued into five and zero, which had a much more serious Majima. It was the spin-off game, Dead Souls, that brought back the wacky, screeching Majima. And Kiwami didn’t help matters by ruining his two great scenes in Yakuza one by introducing the stupid “memejima everywhere XD” system. All in all, Majima is a good character, it’s just that the writers don’t know what they want to do with him, the fans don’t know what to make of him, and I really wish they would just make a game all about Akiyama and Hana-Chan running Sky Finance and handing out loans.

Overall, 3 started the "wackiness" trend, mostly with a shitload of one-dimensional characters that act as masters or vendors. 2 has the zaniness the series is known for with shit like the baby fetishists or the fake Kiryu but 3 starts the overboard trend and by 5, you're running into a shitload of side characters you wish you'd never met.

Didn't like it that much. He was probably too wacky for his own good. Though the substory with the guy doing a deal with the chinks had me in stitches.

I've never liked the whole "stick picture onto console" deal. If it's just iconography, like with the Zelda 3DS's, I'm fine with it, but I hate having full blown pictures of characters and such on them.

Unironically, this is exactly my problem. I actually (legally) acquired a 4k TV on the cheap. Would have loved to grab a muh speshul PS4 Pro for this game since fuck yeah Yakuza + Fist of the North Star. I was already planning on importing this and it would have made sense.

It's the entire reason Ryuga even followed him. Raoh was a cruel, ambitious tyrant, but he fucking kept order. Ryuga figured he was the best chance to rebuild the world after the nukes fell.
