As it clearly states in that screencap, I enjoyed Euphoria. This VN is also made by Clockup. My entire premise for reading MB was based on this. I had hoped that the surprisingly good storytelling from Euphoria would carry over, and that it would be like a diamond in the rough B movie. It didn't live up to that.

I read MB completely in 3 sessions. It wasn't terribly long. I posted my initial impressions in the thread and it sparked discussion with other anons asking me to keep going. That was my motivation to finish it. I probably would have stopped if it weren't for that.

I clearly enjoyed it? Absolutely. There were things about it I liked. I liked the black priest who showed up to punch things and scream Engrish and the villian witches who slut it up for magic power and then kill their partners. The basic premise to the story had a lot of promise. I liked writing my impressions of it all. These small elements do not overcome everything else in the VN. I didn't jerk off to it and feel guilty. My not being able to jerk off to anything despite the fantastic artwork was part of the problem. I think the VN was way too edgy at the expense of everything else. If it being edgy doesn't dissuade you from being interested, then what is your problem? Buy 10 copies of it with my blessing. While you're at it, buy Euphoria and Saya no Uta. They're way better than MB.

But the silver ball mechanic was a nice way of tying a common game mechanic into the narrative and seeing how the MC reacted to certain situations (where he knew where this was leading to) was interesting. These are mostly older games, but they are some of the better console SNs that I have played and are easily accessible. IIRC the spiritual sequel to 街～運命の交差点～ (Machi~ The Crosswalk of Destiny~) which is called 428～封鎖された渋谷で～ (428 ~Blockaded Shibya~) is getting an English localization next year for PS4 and Windows, if you don't speak Japanese. This has to be one of the best VNs that I have ever played and it's the 9th game to received a perfect 40/40 by Famitsu - and that says a lot. Take a look at some of the videos on Youtube or something and see if it would interest you. Also if you are willing to go to the PC88 and PC98 there are a lot of really good VNs that aren't strictly eroge, thought there is a shitload of that anyway.

But yes. Each of the girls have a tragic past and once you learn about it, you begin to understand how they ended up that way. Take Amane for instance, she's very forward from what she wants from Yuuji but that stems from what happened in Angelic Howl, which also stems into what happened to Yuuji's sister Kazuki, which also stems into what happened to his family and how he ended up with Asako. It's why I'm devouring Paradise right now, because I want to see how these interconnected stories end.

I guess it would be difficult to build up as a part of the regular gameplay (assuming you want to say VNs have regular gameplay in the first place), but the thought of having the game turn the tables on you when it comes to the "All grills are scripted to fall in love with you" scenario might be rather interesting.
