It's definitely a game of the old style where you start with few options and end up with a ton of them, you start as some guy and end as a god. Every aspect of the game is like this, really, when you're a level <1-100 you're pretty much wandering around at a realistic speed on foot and at 220 you can jump over buildings and run like you're the fucking Flash.
>triple-wielding
It's pretty much a novel thing Martial Artist can do, but boy is it novel.
>wanting to try to play a ranged character with minions/utility
That's actually represented by a number of classes if you like. Bureaucrat is pretty much ranged with pets and utility, Metaphysicist is melee or ranged with pets/utility, Adventurer can be ranged and has utility. Agent and Fixer are both ranged, more damage focused than utility focused but they both have some. Varying degrees of solo ability for hard stuff but any of them could make 220 alone.
>it was maybe a decade ago
I'm actually jealous of this because I only got into the game when it was 12 years old, I was playing other stuff back when it was poppin' (though I have a friend who played back then, and also who introduced me to it way later) and man, going in with no nostalgia value it's still a great game and I put a ton of hours into it since with a capped boy and some alts.
