<Classic Timeline
>It's just Regular Earth, circa 1987-1996, but cartoony and with better robots.
>A long (((weil))) later, in 21XX, the entire world's government is now micromanaged by a military police with infinite jurisdiction primarily concerned with wrongthinking robots.
>No real-world country, political power, or event that existed before the early 2000s is ever mentioned again.
Okay, but why though?
<Battle Network Timeline
>For some reason, the US and EU have merged to become a hemisphere-dominating superstate. The history of this is never explained.
>Global prosperity has finally pulled Africa out of poverty, but it's basically just an entire continent of Disney's Animal Kingdom. America still has ghettos.
>Japan is just Japan with the best computers.
>Russia is just Russia with better computers, but still acts like it's still the Cold War. The Cold War would have ended differently in this timeline, but this is never touched on.
Whatever, I guess.
At some point, you just have to accept that there isn't a correct answer, and it's just done to make the setting more interesting. Not having an answer makes it a mystery.
