Just came across this beauty of a video. Some salient points:
https://hooktube.com/watch?v=PTLFNlu2N_M
>"loot boxes" are broken down into two categories; cosmetic and progression-based
>Overwatch, TF2, CS:GO etc. are cosmetic
>Battlegrounds, ME3 and FIFA are progression, i.e. you get stronger with these boxes
>therefore, progression boxes you buy via RL money are essentially pay2win
>EA first came up with the idea of a "loot box" type of economy in a game tied to progression
>this did this, in all places, with their FIFA franchise sportsball fags again confirmed for human wastes of space back in 2009
>guy who approved the idea of monetizing in-game progression with RL money is now CEO of EA and probably an uberkike named Andrew Wilson
>this occurred before anything else came onto the scene that could be termed "pay to win"
>in MODERN DAY roughly half of EA's gross for the year comes from micro-transactions
>silver lining in all this is the likely regulation of loot boxes as a form of gambling by various countries
>all things willing, this will cut the knees out from under EA, at least in the near term
ITT we brainstorm further ways to drive the stake into EA's heart. They've wreaked a trail of havoc across vidya for too long, but learning that they used the sportsbro vidya player against players of True Vidya to further their own kikery and introduce p2w bullshit into the gaming ecosystem makes me platinum mad.
So what do /v/? Does this Wilson fucker and any other big name EA jerks have any dirt we could leverage? Old fashioned boycotts are all well and good, but no self-respecting /v/irgin would willingly give EA any of their hard-earned neetbux, so chances are most of /v/ already ignores EA's crap or else pirates it.
This loot box fiasco seems like a fracture point that could be exploited beyond the current fallout. The only question is how.
