I'm interested, do you prefer simpler, smaller but finished and fully realized games, or overwhelmingly grandiose but clearly unfinished/rushed ones?

I'd prefer it if you were fucking dead, kiddo.

Generally the former.

Meme Souls 1 was packed so much with ambition that it shone through even during the flawed portions, but its generally an exception to the rule (unless you can provide more examples that I can't quite think of).

There's just a sense of satisfaction to completing smaller games opposed to floundering about in open worlds that feels satisfying. Smaller games also tend to have much more memorable characters and the player usually has far more impact on the world and its story.

Some people like feeling small in a big world, but I honestly don't. It might work for old mmorpgs but beyond that its quite difficult to see it work in any single player setting

I didn't "big" as something like huge empty open world or something.

"Big" as in choke full of content - story, levels, enemies, everything.

You know how MGSPV is actually bigger than MGS5, despate MGS5 having huge empty spaces.

But PV is also a finished game, so it's not good example.

MGS5 doesn't even seem to be all that ambitious. It was shilled as something taboo-breaking, but it only broke konami.

Probably Oni can be a good example?

There were planned more stages, more bosses, online component, but it all was cut/not made due to time constraints.

I hate watching/playing Overmem, ASSFAGGOTS, Hearthstone, or other competitive games with a stupidly biased meta.

At the same time, I can't get enough of the more serious .io servers. It's a guilty pleasure of sorts, these shitty streambait games.

The former. There's certainly something to be said about an RPG or adventure game that lacks content (e.g., Fallout, Majora's Mask), but all my favorite games can be beaten in less than a couple hours.

Finished > unfinished

I like both Xenogears and Xenosaga, but the glaring lack of content is ever-present.

DaS is a very short game, but it has a lot of replayability. Xenogears is significantly longer – a fantastic game you'll play once and then not touch again for the next 5-10 years.

I've played plenty of extremely simplistic but addictive games in my youth, especially those shitty NES games with score attacks instead of actual levels. I'd rather a game be simple, finished and moddable than if it had a billion details that I couldn't care less about. Even if the game is more complicated, i.e. a /gsg/, I'd rather it offered a complete experience than if it had a billion factors that ultimately amount to nothing, will never ever get picked and just bog down the game. Yandere Simulator is pretty much that, it started out as a simple Hitman clone with some elements to make it special and then the kike dev went full patreonbux and made a jumbled mess out of a very simple game. The best way to make a game, imo, is to make a few gameplay mechanics, don't even have to be too simplistic, and then just go to town with variations among that theme. All your interactions with the game must be through two or three mechanics, not with either a button press or a trillion different combinations.

Quality post, but

>go to town with variations among that theme

picture I assume is unrelated?

I prefer dubs

The former. Is Xenoblade supposed to be unfinished? I didn't get that vibe.

Bionis shoulder was going to be a playable area with the original colony 6 and chests but it was scrapped. If you hack the game you could still walk around it though, it was practically fully complete.

I prefer games where western (((translators))) don't butcher the dialogue.

Maybe it's for the best we didn't get this. We already have several huge ass areas that look just like this. You can overdo it.

680eda No.13854788

Those are all clearly unfinished and rushed.
