IIRC it's a wow knockoff with a multiclassing system where the class combinations got special perks that basically make multiclass combos more like a single-class. At least the world PvP is better than WoW. Didn't play it much. I just fiddled around with it slightly back in the day. Did seem like a better vanilla WoW though.

There isn't any open world pvp. The pvp in general is pretty awful in FFXIV and barely anyone does it. The only time the pvp scene is lively is when you have new maps and stuff coming out and people rush to try it out. Its dead a week after that.
