This is a shit thread, but what the hell. I sure love talking about shitty games and why they are shit.

How's Evolve doing these days? Have they changed anything to the core formula, or is it still shit unbalanced by design?
I've recently tried an indie game called Crawl where 4 players compete in a very interesting way. One is the hero traveling a dungeon and fighting monsters, gaining XP and Gold to improve while the other 3 are Ghosts that create those monsters and manipulate those traps to try and get that player killed.
The one that scores the kill gets to be reborn as a human and travel the dungeon while the dead hero becomes a Ghost.
The fun thing about the game is that, as you gain experience as an Hero, the other Ghosts gain Wrath that makes their monsters tougher and as Ghosts deal damage to you, they also get extra gold when they become humans. There's some other details here but the point is that, the better you do, the better your opponents do as well but in an entirely different side of the game, which results in frequent switches in roles.
The game ends once the Hero defeats a Boss or fails 3 times doing it and you can only give it a shot once you're at least lvl10 so it's pretty competitive, fun and fast paced.
Then you posted your shit thread and that got my jimmies jogging.
What if Evolve operated in a similar fashion? The Monster is free to rampage around the map and only evolves from killing Hunters, being quite more powerfull than they are. But everytime he levels-up, the Hunters spawn with better weapons and gear increasing the chalenge for him.
Everytime a Hunter kills the Monster, They are all recalled and a new round starts, with that Hunter becoming the Monster and everyone else banding against him.
To mimick Crawl, you could have Arenas that the monster must traverse by eating 5 specific animals there to evolve or wrecking 5 instalations before being allowed to move to a new area and he can only evolve when he does so based on his performance against the heroes.
The objective of whoever is playing Monster is to completely ruin the region and assrape everything in it, while the objective of Hunters is to kill Monsters long enough to prevent this. And it's bloody easy to even mimick the bossfight, just set up a giant Mech ala Pacific Rim to fight the Monster that the Hunters can pilot or just support.
It's funny that a shitty indie game with terrible art came up with such good gameplay that vastly overshadows Evolve shit gameplay.
