This week people in our community confronted me about my lifetime of
not understanding emotions. My flippant attacks in emails have been
both unprofessional and uncalled for. Especially at times when I made
it personal. In my quest for a better patch, this made sense to me.
I know now this was not OK and I am truly sorry.
The above is basically a long-winded way to get to the somewhat
painful personal admission that hey, I need to change some of my
behavior, and I want to apologize to the people that my personal
behavior hurt and possibly drove away from kernel development
entirely.
I am going to take time off and get some assistance on how to
understand people’s emotions and respond appropriately.

Uh, hate to break this to you but I've been using OpenBSD exclusively for the past 15 years, not only for my personal desktop/laptops but also for firewalls and various production servers. If it didn't fucking work, I would have given up long ago. Actually one of the reasons(*) I gave up on Linux (Debian to be precise) because their mailing lists were full of political and "feelings" garbage instead of actual technical discussions. It depends on what you are using it for. If you need simple things like email, web browsing, office, and calculations then openbsd is fine. Since openbsd supports many of the programs that linux does. So even if a worst case scenario of liscense change to the kernel happens you can still use muslc, libreoffice, palemoon/firefox, a calculator, and other non GNU owned software with openbsd. If you need video games then emulators work fine like dolphin on openbsd. You might have to port nouveau over to openbsd if you don't have a intel card or AMD card for mesa.

You can run a GNU system on top of a different kernel, though it seems like most such projects providing you with a ready OS are dead.
You can also just run something else entirely, what really matters is if it's good enough for your purposes and free software, and you may find one of the *BSDs fits the bill.

Beloved anon, the Linux kernel is a rather open source old project. It's experienced numerous highs and lows. They have had a working process for maintaining and improving the kernel for years(if not decades since Linux is 1991 for its first release).
The fact is that these disruptors won; however, it will take LOTS of time for their ways and methodologies to get to the point of completely disrupting kernel development. The kernel is not fucked tomorrow, two weeks from now, or even in 3 months from now. It's just not possible for them to destroy the project that quickly, especially since those working on it(despite their support of this) want to keep it going.
All this has done is put an expiration date, or best by/before date, on the kernel. Of course no one will know the exact time until it happens but I would posit we have a year at least before things start to get fucked up. It could of course take even longer than that. What's important to remember is that there are still individuals involved with the project, even those who agree with this CoC adoption, who want to see the project succeed and have been a part of its previous success. It will take time for them to fuck it up and longer to actually kill it[the kernel].
Best thing to do is to start contributing on replacements. Maybe start porting over some drivers or developing critical things from scratch. This isn't the end; not by a long shot.
