pdksh has been dead for years when mksh started. Also, being European, the mksh author cannot relinquish copyright on his code.

He didn't fork pdksh he forked openbsd's fork of pdksh. And yes it was because he was butthurt his shit code wasn't being accepted by openbsd. This is proven by the fact that he has no quick reference for the main changes he to when he originally forked. If you look through his site he doesn't even tell you that he forked it from openbsd, but he does whine that mksh isn't in the openbsd ports tree.

It's true though, if I'm remembering correctly countries like Spain or Italy don't allow you to relinquish copyright. There's actually a license that exists solely to bypass public domain being legally nonexistent in those nations.

You can abandon your copyrights in Spain and Italy. Public domain does legally exist in those nations.
