At some point they’re going to remove the ability to choose exactly which emoji you type.

👪👩‍👩‍👦👨‍👨‍👦

The race/gender/sexuality variant will be chosen randomly, since each conveys the underlying emotion with equal accuracy.

This conditions people to be less racist/sexist/homophobic and weakens cisheteronormative preconceptions about love and family.

The point of medication is to cure, but this doesn't make homeopathy anything but shit at it. Emojis are shit at expressing anything but a willingness to use them. And the only reason they exist and the reason why people use them in typing at all is just "why not?"

 No.892818>>892830 >>917153

>>892817

In the end, that's all that's really necessary. Real people are using emoji all the time in their messages, so it makes sense for Unicode to encode them. This prevents some japanese phone carrier from coming up with their own japanese mess of an encoding and making life hard for everyone else.

The idea that they shouldn't exist because some autists don't like them really holds no water in civilized circles.

That's the my point in saying >>892802. I don't have anything against the existence of emojis. I just don't think they have a point. I don't think they need to have one either, but really they don't. And acknowledging that people like them despite (or maybe because) they're dumb and pointless and that getting flustered over is even more pointless is a better way to defend them than trying to conjure ways to make them seem anything other than dumb fun for the vast majority of users.

 No.892832>>892845 >>893143

>>892830

It's not up to Unicode to determine whether there's a "point" to stuff. They just encode the characters people use in communication. Ideally, it should encode all the characters ever, so as to stop retards from making other alternative special snowflake encodings nobody actually wants to support.

When people don't see the point to something, they don't use it. Tor's been available for years, yet normal people don't use it because they don't see the point.

The view times, that they are used on specific platforms, they could also be represented by images like back in the day when every forum had funny gifs for weird emoji. Great times.

Then we wouldn't need to put up with nigger emoji introduced by JEWS. The whole point of them was that they were abstract and didn't need to be adjusted to anything.

Dude. Nobody's "marketing emoji to consumers as progress". That's a super pessimistic way of looking at something that's intended to be a bit of fun and add meaning and emphasis to the digitally written form of our language. Plenty of people who aren't you use it daily and love it. Emoji are the cyber equivalent of the typographer's dingbats of the printed text era.

>>894661

You couldn't be further from the truth. When people use emoji, they don't use them in place of words (unless they're being purposefully playful). When people use emoji they ADD them on to the end of the text they're writing in order to emphasize certain emotions they're trying to get across that can be hard to express when you're limited by message length (eg. 140 characers). If anything, emoji are improving the quality of communication rather than hindering them.

That can be done with any emoji though. A good use for these new emoji would be, for example, on Twitter.

Name one valid time this would apply in 2018. The last time I heard people worrying about message length was for texting in which you were charged per character sent. I think most cellphone services no longer do this anymore. Over the internet there is pretty much no limit. There are services where you can even host videos which are a multitude the size of any message you would ever want to send.
