About

OpenNIC is alternative DNS root to ICANN that is open, democratic, and free to use. Besides providing DNS for conventional ICANN domains, OpenNIC also peers Namecoin, Emercoin, New Nations, and their own OpenNIC top level domains.

Of these domains, the .chan TLD was chartered by users of 8chan /tech/, and is home to a variety of imageboards and related content.

Under proposal currently is .front, a new top level domain chartered as a space for the free discussion of politics and social movements within the OpenNIC ecosystem. If passed, .front domains would become available through the .chan registratration system, Regano.

What about SSL certificates fir OpenNIC domains? Is there any non-commercial CAs for them, like CAcert for regular domains?

 No.844149

>>844148

Discussion on SSL has been spinning around in circles for a while but there's been conversation as recently as earlier this month about it if you're interested.

https://lists.opennicproject.org/sympa/arc/discuss/2017-12/msg00036.html

In particular, this posting indicated there's at least two CAs that would support such a thing.

Who wants to host a Daily Stormer mirror and make a bunch of shitlibs eat their words on 'free speech'?

Would you host a linksunten.indymedia.org mirror too? Do you care about free speech or about your speech?

>Do you care about free speech or about your speech?

That's exactly the question I want to force OpenNIC operators to answer.

They are alright as far as I know. Never saw censorship there

 No.844186>>844200

The thing about free speech is not that you have to support things you find abhorrent, you just have to not sabotage them and refute them into oblivion

Linksunten is a german far left website that got forbidden, nothing else.

Why would he have to? He isn't a DNS provider.

If you want a mirror for the revolutionary LARPers, feel free to make one yourself.

Thats kinda true.

Who would have thought huuuuuuuuuuuh?

Go host your shit on i2p or busta.

At least at .chan, unconditional free speech is a priority. Each domain besides .chan is operated by their own charter, so I can't speak for other organizations about their own policies. But it would be impossible to offer a top level domain for anonymous imageboards and not be invested in free speech.

I tested the Tier 1 resolvers. Only ns9.opennic.glue responds to queries for ICANN domains.

Works:

>dailystormer.red

>stormfront.org

>kukluxklan.bz

>kuklosknights.com

>resist.com

>amren.com

 No.844397

>>844390

None of the Tier 2s that resolve normal domains are blocking these either. If you can think of some good domains to try you can grep the IPs from https://servers.opennic.org/ and use https://www.digwebinterface.com to compare responses. Only check colorize output + short + compare output or it fucks the results for some reason.
