>A little late, so this might get buried. But one summer I was going through an episode of depression and I wasn't working as I was on break from college and waiting until I moved back to my college town to start again. I ended up doing nothing but watching Netflix, and after I finished the office in something like 5 - 10 days, I don't quite remember, I received an email from Netflix asking if I was okay. They had noticed that I had my account running non-stop for over a week and they wanted to check on me and make sure I was doing well since my viewing activities became so much more frequent than they used to be. Honestly made me feel better just knowing that someone, even a stranger working at a customer support agency, cared about my mental health.

People are so fucking dumb on this board, they either go full tinfoil with their crap and isolate themselves or they only bash on the services which they aren't tied to. Some people blame google because they've gone away from it, others blame various other service providers like netflix. You are always caught up in some service and in the future I think they will work together even more and bring you down from whichever angle they want, if they so will.

Give up the game or play hard, and don't preach without giving concrete examples of how you handled the situation and by proxy gives you a leg to stand on in these conversations.

But yeah, everyone's IP was out there in the open. I really don't know why people put so much weight on IP address alone when it comes to finding locations. It's virtually impossible to find anyone location or true identity based on IP address for the average pleb

Law enforcement CAN call up an ISP and find out which IP from there is leased to which customer, but you need a search warrant for that.

Fingerprinting is super easy for an omnipresent corporation, even if it is just an IP. Every website your average person goes to, every service they sign up for, every thing they buy, everything they watch, everything they post, everything they do has been collected, because the 'services' they use fall under the umbrella of a hand full of corporations. It's an open trail of breadcrumbs they can follow any time they feel like.

What does that have to do with a business data mining viewer watching habits, analyzing anomalous behavior, and shaming them (anonymously) in public as a PR stunt? I'd have no problem handing out my address to arrange a delivery to my door, but I'd feel something was up if the delivery man then parked a block away and started watching my house with binoculars, hoping to catch me in a compromising situation.

Netflix openly admitted that they actually watch their analytics data for weird behavior, not for practical purposes but for their own amusement. It's one thing if you dump that data in a black box and it spits out what's popular, what viewers of X might want to watch next, and so on. That holds some practical benefit for their business and maybe the end user as well. This, however, is completely different; it morphs from openly unprofessional behavior into malice because of its publicity and tone. They don't just want to piss on your face, they want you to smile while they do it.

You do realize they aren't allowed to do that right? Contact the better business bureau and let them know they're misusing your personal information in a way that goes against conduct for a public utility company. Hell, that doesn't even sound like a real thing since it seems highly unlikely a utility company would need to reacquire that info from you. They have that shit on record since your home phone number tends to remain the same. Usually if they want to verify they just ask for your account pin.

Besides that, all you have to do is tell them to put you on the do not call list, they're required by law to do that. If they refuse then same procedure, record the number and report. Even if you think this shit doesn't work it does, i've done it before it's still worth the effort to let people know somethings up. And if you think they'll just pull your gas, remember, it's a public utility. They are required by law to provide their services to everyone in the area of service. Even if you tamper with the meter a utility can't permanently shut your shit down, they just make you pay a fine to get reconnected.

well that's why we use our common sense and info gathering. If the calls didn't happen before and they start happening after then a recent event was the pivot. In this case giving them the phone number which resulted in the calls starting. There's no such thing as a coincidence, everything happens for a reason.

All you have to tell the BBB is that the calls didn't start happening until after you gave them your number. Even if the case goes no where you'll still be able to stop the calls by requesting they put you on the do not call list. Besides, don't any of your fuckers have a block function on your phone? The first amendment is something that applies to the state, and it simply forbids the state from blocking your free speech. It doesn't apply to private individuals, and it technically doesn't even require the state to protect your free speech when others infringe on it - so long as the state itself does no harm.

>Technically firing someone for any sort of belief(s) is illegal

Really? Under the CRA and NDA only political beliefs are not a protected class so I don't think it is unless the employer is the government. With a sympathetic judge, you might stretch it and argue that political party affiliation should be protected, but even so it would only be taken seriously if the parties in question are Reps or Dems, not "fringe movements" (which is what they would call anything other than Dems or Reps).

The real question is, how come there's no companies that enforce right-wing beliefs with equal zeal? Given the current government, at least half the people in the country are either republican or even more right, and supposedly the wealthy employers lean right even more. How come none of them fire liberal employees? How come nobody cares about conservative customers boycotting?

 No.838309

>>838304

Companies typically don't openly support right-wing ideas because libs are a vocal minority who will accuse anyone of being racist/homophobic/whatever

Conversely companies don't care about right-wingers boycotting because voting with your wallet, what right-wingers typically do, is still less destructive to a companies reputation then retardes SJWs holding up signs and shit

>(Technically firing someone for any sort of belief(s) is illegal but good luck proving that in court)

Incorrect in many U.S. jurisdictions.

>>838304

>The real question is, how come there's no companies that enforce right-wing beliefs with equal zeal?

Somebody hasn't heard of Hobby Lobby.

>Given the current government, at least half the people in the country are either republican or even more right,

That's a bizarre claim. In fact, several million more people voted for Hillary than for Donald. And Republicans currently hold more House seats than Democrats even though they received fewer overall votes. Gerrymandering by Republican-controlled state governments saw to that. Anyway, it's pretty dumb to characterize the country as >50% "republican or even more far right" when just a few years ago, we had a Democrat president (who won by a yuge margin that put Trump's relatively minor Electoral College win to shame) and a Democrat Congress. Apart from dyed-in-the-wool Repubs and Dems, there are a huge number of swing voters. It will swing back to Dems in a few years. Then back to Repubs. Because Americans never learn. Attend to history, youngfag.

>How come none of them fire liberal employees?

Some do.

>How come nobody cares about conservative customers boycotting?

They do, if it's an effective boycott. For example, when a bunch of conservative Christians who were never going to visit Disney anyway "boycotted" Disney because of their fag advocacy, Disney was all, "Well, you were never gonna come here anyway, but fags love Disney, so deal with it." If Disney had seen a precipitous dropoff in park attendance or revenue as a result of the boycotts, they would have changed rapidly.

Money talks and bullshit walks. Conservative boycotts that have a financial impact and aren't just so much hot bullshit are effective.

Obama also lost the popular vote though, against McCain, the only reason he the popular vote in 2012 was because Romney was so laughable and Obama was so status quo by that point that a lot of Republicans just voted Obama

 No.838315>>838320

>>838314

Wait I just looked it up and I was wrong, don't know why I thought otherwise. 2012 was actually much closer than 2008 which I find funny because Romney was so laughable in that campaign

Regardless, a lot of Republicans did vote Obama, Democrat or Republican, its hard to gauge the actual political makeup of the US based on Presodential party alone. A lot of Republicans with otherwise right-wing values voted Hillary this election too for example, because Trump was so controversial during his campaign.

>Regardless, a lot of Republicans did vote Obama,

Absurd. A lot of Democrats and swing voters voted for Obama. Very few Republicans did.

>A lot of Republicans with otherwise right-wing values voted Hillary this election too for example

This may be the most insane thing that has ever been posted on 8chan. Almost no Republicans or people with "right-wing values" voted for Hillary. They may not have voted for Trump, but that means they voted for Gary Johnson (Libertarian Party), or wrote in a candidate, or just left it blank like George W. Bush said he was going to. Republicans hate Hillary. For fuck's sake, plenty of Democrats hate Hillary, like a lot of those who supported Bernie and were upset by the party's machinations to give the nomination to her. She was an unlikable candidate even among her own party. Suggesting that Republicans voted for her in any significant amount is just fucking retarded. Sorry, anon, but it is.

Every time someone watches a video, a tag is added - to keep track of view counts and to keep track of view history. Tags are processed by an algorithm to figure out what content is likely to get attention and choose it for promotion, your personal preferences including. On occasion, someone may manually browse tags and see shit like this, and shitpost about it.

So it's kinda shitty that you're being tracked, but also it's nice because the thing will comb though gargantuan collections of data for you to carefully pick the shit you are most likely to appreciate. The whole purpose is to increase your user satisfaciton, which increases likelyhood of you spending money, which improves their business situation. It's a positive relationship all around except there's this pesky fact that their program contains some opaque numerical data that it can figure out your preferences with, without you explicitly stating them. It's literally just a bunch of numbers. It uses them as coordinates on hyperdimensional grid and selects the shit other people close to you on that grid also liked. It's pretty much unusable to everyone else or even a different version of their own algorithm.
