Why the fuck are some services locked behind an app wall? It's one thing to implement a basic login wall, but something entirely ridiculous to force users to install an app on your phone in order to access their content or services.
Take something like https://aiportraits.org/. When you go there using a desktop browser, it shows you all the cool image styles it can generate... all while telling you to download the app for your iPhone or Android if you want to use it. Why the fuck can't they just make a desktop version? It's just as free as the app version. It would be the same source code behind a web API. Do sites hide their services behind app walls so that they can mine more of your data, is there some other legit reason, or do they just do this to be faggots for no reason?

If source is not available application is a big useless piece of shit by default. They probably just made a wrapper around neural-style anyways (https://github.com/jcjohnson/neural-style). Don't even look at software that is not free or open-source, it will fuck you over in one way or another eventually.

You're thinking in terms of a website always being the primary thing, and any apps being optional secondary things. In the example site you gave, the product they're selling is their app. That's the primary thing the company is offering, their app. Their website for the app it is the minor secondary thing.
