Fedilab seems okay. They are one pod of many in a Fediverse, Husky is another and Husky have gone down the path of censorship in response to the Gab community wanting to federate with other pods. Its part of a wide network of apps and pods which if memory serves started as a protocol that was made by the folks at Diaspora* (XAMP?). You can control/host your own social data by starting your own pod.
