So I am going overseas for some time and I am trying to set up a flashdrive with whatever software I need (I'm cheap and can't get a hard drive at this point).

So far I just have some freeware, portableapps, and some customization tweaks. I have some mega.nz archives of "hacks/computing" zips I found, but I do not trust the source enough to download (all my security programs says its severe risk).

What would you guys suggest I install? I have a 256 GB capacity (~238gb) and preferably want things that can work on ANY computer (namely Windows and Linux) regardless of the computer's state.

So make part of it a encrypted 32bit Linux distro install that can boot from even UEFI.

Then you don't need to worry about host OS.

I guess make the other part a NTFS partition since even most *nix systems now have a NTFS driver and Microsoft loves being retarded snowflakes.

how would I go about doing that? I do not have a lot of advanced tech knowledge.

Just copy the stash of software you've been saving from torrents and random websites over the years lol

i thought mentioning linux would be worthwhile since I know a lot of people on the program i am working with will be using linux, and i thought this would be a good time for me to learn to use it

bootable USB with mini distro + tools?

Slax variant with compressed modules & persistence perhaps?

tools = others + https://sourceforge.net/projects/swissfileknife/

From linux you can usually just dd the distro image to the usb, which probably doesn't make sense to you but it's easy once you know what dd is. Then you can boot into it (in a virtual machine or not) and configure however you want. From windows you need to use https://rufus.akeo.ie/

Either way you need a linux distro, you can find one at distrowatch, just pick a popular one since you have no idea what you're doing.
